Services
Guglhupf is an innovative bakery, cafe and biergarten with a reputation for outstanding artisanship and attention to quality. We serve contemporary cuisine with a nod to our southern German roots, emphasizing local and seasonal ingredients.

Having grown up in Germany with farmer's markets and an abundance of local food purveyors such as bakers, butchers, cheese shops, local farmers and green grocers, Claudia Kemmet-Cooper, Guglhupf's co-founder and owner, learned early on that food was so much more than just sustenance.Meal times were communal, and foods were carefully sought out and prepared by the women in her family.
Welcome to the Guglhupf Caf & Biergarten, where local and seasonal ingredients are prepared with a contemporary southwestern German twist. Our eclectic, architecturally striking building and garden patio are the perfect backdrop for a casual yet unique dining experience with friends & family. Come check out our expanded daytime caf menu, featuring our full range of brunch menu options every day of the week!
Dinner is back! We have expanded hours for the Cafe for outdoor dining, and welcome you to join us on the patio! Please note that we are only seating outside on our expanded patio at this time. And, we are unable to take reservations since we don't have alternate seating in the case of inclement weather.
We truly feel we returned to our roots with the Chapel Hill Bake Shop.'cause it's all about the bakery! It's 1,250 square feet of the Guglhupf breads, pastries, desserts and savory baked goods you love and about the size of the retail area in Durham. Everything is made fresh in our Durham bakery and brought to Chapel Hill throughout the day.like a Carolinas version of Handwerksbckereien in Germany!

I almost don’t want to write this review because it would get busier, but it is definitely well earned. The ambiance is great, the food is fantastic, and the bakery offers a wide variety of delicious treats and my favorite beers.
If we lived closer we’d come here regularly but it’s worth the trek.
We stopped for brunch which was only outdoor seating but they had heaters in the patio which made it comfortable.
I do recommend checking how busy they are here on google first before going. When it’s busy parking is tricky and there can be a long wait.

I enjoyed my eggs Benedict! My partner was not a huge fan of the smokey flavor of the salmon but it was a generous portion and a beautifully presented spread. The chai was also delightful. The outdoor seating experience made us feel comfortable and confident about dining out during covid.

I enjoyed my meal and once I ordered (you have to wait in in line to do this) my food came quickly. Most people sat outside so inside (where I sat) was comfortable and not too crowded.

Arrived at 10:30 for an 11:30 meeting. Had never been there for Sunday brunch but knew there would be waiting. I waited about 5 minutes for any parking space to become available and then 20 minutes in line. Covid precautions are in place with masked staff and quick table turnover.
Omelet, cider, and sausage took 20 minutes. Since I was anticipating a wait, there was no disappointment. About 60% of the outside seating was used and everyone seemed to enjoy the brisk but sunny weather. The sound of the water feature was soothing as well.
BTW - The food was absolutely delicious.

It’s pronounced “Google Huff” apparently. The ambiance was incredible! They do a really good job of creating a unique outdoor seating experience that transports you away from feeling like you’re dining at a spot off the highway and instead in this nice nature setting with patio seating. You walk up to the window to order your food then take a number, grab a table, and they bring it out to you. The food was delicious but it didn’t absolutely blow my mind. I appreciate that they have vegan, vegetarian, and wheat free options. We ordered croissant sandwiches and the croissant was the star

This was my first time here, having been invited by a friend. The atmosphere is incredibly inviting and relaxing. It’s quaint and classy yet casual.
They offer several German options but also a spattering of American foods as well.
Pricing is a little higher than your average restaurant but the atmosphere, service and quality food make it well worth it!
The bakery was closed before we arrived so I can’t review that. However, the friend (who’s native home is Germany) that invited me said they have a great selection of breads and pasties.
I definitely plan to go back and try other dishes

This place is amazing hands down. The food was amazing, presentation was good, and you can tell the ingredients were quality. We went here for brunch on our trip in Raleigh. I got the Reuben Panini with the daily soup as my side. The bread was just the right amount of crispy. The flavor was packed perfectly it didn't fight for what I was tasting, it melded perfectly in my mouth for a taste explosion. They have special drink beverages you can try out too for those interested in that. I got the peach fuzz lemonade and impressed with that as well. The scenery is also very beautiful inside for seating

Amazing place to visit. Lovely outdoor seating with a plethora of unique metal artwork. The menu had a good variety of foods to pick from. The food was served nice and hot with fresh fruits. The line never ceases (but moves steadily) and I see why. Customer service was extraordinary! I would definitely recommend grabbing some friends/family and enjoy this great atmosphere. I also encourage you to stop by the bakery and grab some of their German delicacies, pastry and bread to go!
