Location: 5530 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 965, Chevy Chase, MD 20817 - right across the street from Saks Fifth Avenue. Red Line - Friendship Heights Metro Station - then walk North on Wisconsin Avenue for three blocks until you arrive at 5530 Wisconsin Avenue. The building has a garage that can be accessed off Wisconsin Avenue.
The initial appointment will last approximately 90 - 120 minutes, on average. During that visit, I will ask you to complete releases of information so that I can gather prior records and will likely order laboratory tests, as needed. The completion of the initial evaluation often requires a second appointment, allowing me time to review records and data before formulating a treatment plan that includes medication and therapy recommendations.
Dr. Cowan provides thorough evaluations, medication management, therapy, and patient/family education. She may serve as a complement to a patient's current treatment team. Her belief is that the patient benefits most by following the psychiatric evaluation with a dynamic and in-depth plan of action which is focused on the emotional and physical health of the patient.
I do not accept insurance, but I will provide a billing receipt that will describe the type of appointment and diagnosis. Your insurance policy is a contract between you, the employer, and the insurance company. Therefore, you are expected to interact with your insurance company for pre-authorization (if necessary) and to initiate/maintain reimbursement.
You may bring them to your first appointment, or preferably scan/email or fax them to me, in advance of the appointment. The effective dates and Dr. Cowan's information can be entered at the time of the appointment. It is very important for me to have treatment records from former psychiatrists so that you may receive the best possible care.
