We gathered in shinya shokudo to celebrate spring festival in advance and shinya shokudo means midnight diner in Japan

however, I think this place miss many foods which is best for midnight such as Kantō-boo, soup also Japanese home-styled dish

they don't have much choice and I like the wagyu katsu sando, the sliced wagyu beef is tender and flavored with ponzu sauce

Oyakodon will never be wrong to order because on one will say no to chicken egg and onion

you can also order mentaiko creamy udon to share with others and this dish remind me the soy milk noodle in China and soy milk pot

I've taken several friends here (separately). They've all had a wonderful time. 3 separate parties have now ask me (weeks later) "what was that restaurant we went to? it was great, i want to go again". You know it's good when that happens.
The izakaya is well staffed and maintained. Cozy, comfy, and friendly. Provides food at an appropriate price. Can't recommend them enough.

A 10 out of 5 for me. Everything we ordered was amazing. Each dish had delicious flavor but unique in its own way. I will highly recommend this place to all of my friends and anyone who is considering going here. Great establishment!

I came here a couple months ago and loved it so much that it was my first stop when I came to visit Seattle for the weekend.

I highly recommend making reservations. I came around the time they open and still had to wait an hour for a table. I wish their communication was better though because they said it would be an hour wait and they would let me know when my table was ready but when I came back an hour later, it was as if they were waiting for me to come back in instead of reaching out to me that the table was ready... Anyways... onto the food review

BEST Mentaiko Udon I have ever had!!

There aren't many yakitori places in Seattle, but I'm glad that this one hits it out of the park. The service is great and the food is delicious. We had a great time.
The wagyu beef is amazing in both the rice bowl and on the stick.

We ordered almost everything on the menu, I love the small dishes so that you can try everything! One of my favorites was the mentaiko creamy udon, very umami and soulful. I was just visiting and I wish we had one back home in Denver. I very much recommend this place for a Japanese street food experience.

Came her with a couple friends on a weekday dinner. Shinya Shokudo is a Japanese Izakaya in Belltown known for their Japanese skewers.

Their Wagyu rice bowl and chicken katsu was the star of the show for me. The wagyu rice bowl with egg was an incredible combination and the seasoned rice tasted great. The chicken katsu with rice had extremely crispy katsu layer but the chicken was still very moist. We tried a couple skewers and it tasted good.

Street parking was pretty easy and there's a cheap lot nearby. I really like the ambiance of the restaurant with Japanese decor and lanterns overhead

Absolutely surprised at how good this was. I am from the bay but visited Seattle for the week. Decided to stop here on a whim, and was blown away. I think this place is totally underrated. I felt the love and care that went into every single micro dish, the ambiance is really quite nice. Highly recommend. The food will speak for itself.

Decided to try this place out a few weeks ago and couldn't stop thinking about it and had to come back. I love this style of service, because you order from your phone. This way the server can spend all their time actually being hospitable instead of hustling between too many tables. You are encouraged to order in waves and I second this, start small and go for round 2 or 3. There is alot just of good things on the menu.

Came here with a big group and enjoyed the meal! You order collectively through a webpage, and they bring out things as they are cooked.
My main complaint was that the skewers with the sauce were a bit too salty; too much sauce. My friend got the wagyu don which was a lot smaller than expected for $22. My favorite skewer was the chicken hearts! I got the green tea rice which I don't recommend; the tea was way too thick and opaque like matcha, not the light clear tea I was expecting!

Great experience of some Japanese yakitori, everything was great from the shrimp to the noodles Amazing! The beef wagyu was so good along with the steak skewers. Nothing was dry, i think my favorite part was the shrimp for sure. They make it easy for you too, the ordering system online is so convenient especially if you order little by little don't have to wait om a server to come around. This place you will need to make reservations. Cant complain to live across the street from an amazing place, the interior and seating are very well spaced if you're worried. I believe they are requiring vaccinated

Great place for lunch or a ore dinner snack, you will have to order a lot here to get full.

Service was decent.

You order by scanning the QR code on the table.

Skip the wagyu sando, it was just ok.

The skewers were pretty tasty.

I'd probably give it a 2.8, it started great but ended poorly.

First the positives: some of the skewers were great including the gyutan and the steak. The sake tasting was very good and we enjoyed the bento box.

The bad, everything is salted extremely heavily, by the end we were both sick to our stomachs, the Tsukune and Prime Tsukune were almost in-edible. My partner now refuses to even try those again somewhere else. The ochazuke was also salted, who salts the tea??

We started out loving it but by the end decided we probably wouldn't return.

Located in Belltown, this izakaya spot has a fairly modern ambience with some woodsy decor and lanterns overhead. The staff was super attentive and frequently checked up on our table.

They have a nice selection of yakitori and non-skewer options, and while the yakitori was good, I was very impressed by the non-skewer entrees. Believe me when I say, the Wagyu Don Tataki is carrying this 5 star review and is probably one of my favorite dishes I've ever eaten. If you're a wagyu fan, you're gunna want to try it. My other go-tos are the Creamy Mentaiko Udon and the Foagura Don (to

I agree with most here that the plates are (very oddly) better than the skewers.

That's not to say you should pass on the skewers; but more so, that they should compliment your plate(s) on your visit.

Stars of the Show:
Cream Udon
Seared Foie Gras
Squid Salad
Dessert - Peach Mousse

If this place really really nailed down the skewers, I would have no doubt in my mind there would be a line down the block to get in.

Bottom line front: Mediocre.
Good points:
Ambience - A.
Service and Ease - A.
Selection of drinks and food - A.
Open till midnight
Cost reasonable
Low points:
The wagyu was anything but premium. All the dishes lacked an element of satisfaction. I ordered the A5 wagyu, and it turned out to be chewy, lol. The wagyu meatball tasted frozen or stale. Seaweed salad was salty. I was confused with the corn in the seaweed salad.

For me, this restaurant is 3.5/5 for me. They provide excellent service with servers checking in frequently to deliver our orders and refill our drinks so average out to 4/5.

The restaurant focuses on yakitori so I had high expectations to the skewers. I was more impressed with their non-skewer dishes. I ordered the small dish set, chawanmushi, wagyu tataki donburi, and mentaiko creamy udon. For yakitori, I ordered momo, kawa, kamo no muneniku, saikyo miso beef, and buta no kubiniku.

The smoked salmon has a great texture and perfect to eat with rice; a bit too salty by itself. The crab salad

I like their bbq skewers. Many meat options but limited vegetable options. I like the triangle rice. Food is tasty and on expensive side. I would enjoy the food more if they bring the skewers to table with some time in between and not all together so they do not get cold.
