We made a reservation for our anniversary and got there. The restaurant was closed for a private party. They directed us upstairs to a bar that smelled like cigarette smoke. When we said we didn't want to eat there, they were unapologetic and claimed they left a message in our phone which was untrue. They said we could eat upstairs in the bar and cigarette smoke with the same menu. On the way out I was harassed for wearing a mask. NEVER going to go back. Will be sure to spread the word about our terrible experience, the rude staff, and the terrible energy and taste in my mouth that was left

Just had a delicious dinner at this little Shadyside neighborhood gem. It's not often that everyone at the table wants to come back before they have ordered just because so many things look good! The best items we had were the shrimp small plate, the roasted beet salad, the halibut special and the French onion soup. Definitely worth a trip!

Came here for date night. Make sure you have a reservation. It is very small but very cute inside. Service was great. They even took your coats if you wanted. It was definitely worth the price. We got the Greek platter, salmon, and the autumn carbonara. The salmon was one of the best I've gotten at a restaurant! I would come here again.

What a hidden gem in Shadyside. I was in the city for a fundraising shopping event and we were looking for a place to eat afterwards. I had not heard of this place and after looking at the menu outside decided to stop in. Our server was great and we were seated immediately. I enjoyed the lamb chop entree with white bean salad. I didn't know what to expect as it was a unique combination. I enjoyed all the savory flavors and feel like I practically licked the plate. Definitely, take a look and stop by if you are in the area.

After some holiday shopping on Walnut, a friend suggested we grab a bite to eat on a dry, cold, quiet Tuesday evening. Acorn was closed. Girasole was at capacity, when my friend spotted Frances across the street with inviting twinkle lights. Apparently it opened in 2019 where Stacked was. I recommend reservations as there are less than a dozen tables but we lucked out because it was 8 o'clock and a few tables had been vacated by earlier diners. The atmosphere was perfect-cozy, warm, low lighting shabby chic glam bistro decor currently adorned with festive decorations. Without a doubt there

LOVED FRANCES!!! my hubby and I went here on a date night and had the best meal!! We made reservations and the only times available were 5:30 or 5:45 pm, so we went at 5:45 pm. It was pretty empty at this time but by the time we were leaving it started to get crowded. We ordered drinks and the steamed buns appetizer. There were only 3 but they were very good. The shrimp was delicious and we really enjoyed the sauces in the dish. Then we ordered our meals, I got their signature dish, beef and rags and my husband got the pork chop. We both LOVED our meals. It was comfort food that hit the spot and

We happened upon this place by accident and I am so grateful we did. To start please know that this is a true “your mom is cooking an amazing dinner” kind of place, and amazing food takes time. So grab a drink or two from the great bartender, sit back, relax, and if you are outside people watch. I highly recommend the crab cakes because they were delightful and mainly lump crab with little filler. A must try next time you are in Shadyside.

This is a really beautiful atmosphere right on walnut street neighboring many other great shops and spots. The service was good and they were pretty quick for our food to come out. And the food was delicious! I highly recommend the Greek platter as a starter dish for your party.
My boyfriend and I went here as a little fancy date and I certainly recommend trying this place if you haven't already!
Overall really nice experience. You should definitely check it out!

Ambiance - chic, modern, night time low lighting is relaxing and inviting
Service - Tori was friendly, welcoming, and engaging! Excellent job!
Food - My salmon entree with lentils was delicious. The salmon was lightly seasoned as not to cover the delicate salmon taste. The lentils were tender and savory.
Drinks- The French 75. A deliciously constructed drink.
Dessert - Pumpkin Cake - the cake itself was disappointingly dry, it was slightly redeemed by the thick layer of frosting, but I would consider another option on the dessert menu next time.

I came here last night for my anniversary with my boyfriend and we got a nice little table in front of the window. The atmosphere was very nice. I got the chicken for dinner and it was delicious. I also had to order the chocolate coconut cake for dessert which was also a good choice. Overall it was a wonderful evening! Definitely recommend coming here for a nice night out.

Had a late lunch after walking the art festival. Amazingly they let us slide into a window table for two without reservations but I wouldn't advise trying that again. Very nicely decorated and the food was splendidly tasteful! I had the 2am Burger and Lisa had the Monte Cristo. Service and food equates to fine dining but the price was less than $40
Definitely adding to my list of fav's and right across the street from two other favorites
Very pleased to see the reserved table for the fallen soldiers.

We were looking to have a nice brunch that wouldn't be too long of a wait since everywhere else was packed. We decided to try Frances due to the good reviews & good menu. However, our experience was anything but good. I have never given a Google review before, but I had to share this awful experience. If I could give 0 stars I would.
We were the first table at 12pm & they were not busy. We ordered drinks but the waiter never came back for our food order. I had to go inside & find him just to place our order. By this time an hour had passed w barely any service or food. NEXT: our food took another

Frances is charming restaurant in shady side, with festive string lights indoors and a couple cute outdoor tables too. We came for my daughter's graduation dinner, so of course I hoped we would love this place, but it was just okay. Our highlights included an excellent lump crab risotto appetizer, the homemade authentic baklava for dessert, and nice cocktails. Disappointments were their signature rags and beef (way over salted, and the beef cut was tough, served atop fresh but doughy pasta that was more like a pot-pie dumpling), and salmon (overcooked and dry) entrees. One dish that could

We went to Frances for brunch and were not disappointed. The food was excellent and Chris was an awesome server! The owner even came out to say hello and introduce herself. We will definitely be back soon for brunch and also for dinner. Make sure you put Frances on your list of restaurants to try, I know you'll love it!

Made reservations on open table last minute. I wasn't sure if I should just walk in or where the hostess stand/greeter would be so I hovered by the door until one of their servers sat us. It's cute, small, and has an elevated and elegant style with a reasonably casual feel. They don't have a ton of menu options but there's still a decent spread so if you're a picky eater keep that in mind. They had a pork, chicken, salmon, crab and three beef options on the menu. We ordered the Caesar salad, mussels, and we each had the filet option served with maybe too much broccoli and

I had a very lovely dinner here with my dad this past weekend. Since he was coming into town, I perused the local pittsburgh restaurant menus for something both unique and classic at the same time, and the beef Wellington option really stood out to me. I never see this on menus and loved when my dad cooked it for thanksgiving one year, thought we should give this a try. We both gravitated towards this option and literally commented by the end that this was one of the best meals we've had in Pittsburgh. The beef was cooked perfectly, encased in a lovely puff pastry. Served with roasted broccoli

Frances is nice. Cute decor and tasty food. We loved our cocktails and the wine the selection was awesome. Taking a couple stars off of my review for a couple different reasons. Service was extremely slow and just overall not great or attentive at all. We were there for hours. The dishes were overly pricey for the portion size. It's a fancier place so I asked if they offer bread for the table and they said it was "by request" so they brought four slices of dry baguette without any butter or oil or anything. I would go back but it won't be at the top of my list. Maybe they are

Absolutely have to try this place! The service, decor and food was out of this world! Very accommodating and let us order off both menus(Frankie's bar and grill) since they were a little on the slower side tonight, chef was willing to do that. This is a family owned and operated business, the chef(owner tonight) even came out to mingle with people. Our waiter,Chris, was attentive and offering up suggestions which always helps! We will be back with more people. This place deserves to stay in business, go and support them and find out for yourself why they are getting great reviews!

Without a doubt, my new favorite spot in Pittsburgh. Incredible food, amazing staff, delicious wine and priced just right. We sat outside for my birthday, just me and my kiddo. Not only did they make her a special "mocktail" but since we got there early before the dinner rush hit, their bartender ran out and grabbed a coloring book so she had something to do while Mommy had her wine! As if the service was spectacular enough, I cannot even begin to describe the food well enough to do it justice. We had the meatloaf (heavenly, better than any of our moms ever made it), the Mac and cheese

Frances is a new fine dining place in Shadyside, run by the same owner(s) of Frank's Bar & Grill that is upstairs. My partner and I dined here on Valentine's Day and the experience was satisfactory in general. It's more like a 3.5 star but I was reluctant to round up to 4 before my second try.
We ordered ghost pumpkin and pea risotto (special) as appetizers. The risotto was flavorful with the correct texture, showing chef(s)' good techniques. The ghost pumpkin salad was the star of our night, which is creative, delicious, and beautifully plated.
