Services
During the 1940s, Concord Presbytery used Camp Fellowship on the Catawba River. When Duke Power revealed plans to build Lake Norman, the Presbytery was in danger of losing its camping facilities. Undaunted, Mr. Grier purchased 600 acres of land in Old Fort, NC in the summer of 1950 in order to start another camp for the Concord Presbytery.
Camp Grier is located on 655 acres and is surrounded by the first tract of National Forest purchased by the federal government under the Weeks Act. An 8,100 acre tract encompassing the Curtis Creek watershed was purchased for $7 an acre from the Burke McDowell Lumber Company in 1911. Following in that great tradition of conservation Camp Grier protected a 200 acre tract of our property surrounding Jarrett Creek in 2018.
The mission of Camp Grier is to provide opportunities for connection, service, celebration, and renewal in nature. We talk a lot at camp about "common ground" or places and things that we all share as part of humanity. The outdoors provides vital "common ground" that we all need for our physical, psychological, emotional, and social health and it also provides one of the last "common" spaces that we all share.
Co-ed residential programs designed for rising 2nd graders to 12th graders that help teach lifelong social and outdoor skills. Let the Journey begin! Explorer Programs form the foundation of the Summer Journey Series. Explorers develop curiosity, calculate risk, and learn to trust themselves and others.
Camp Grier has almost 700 socially distant acres to pitch a tent! While you're here enjoy hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and swimming. Weekend camping passes are available for $55 per person and includes showers and a shared bathhouse. This experience was absolutely breathtaking! The scenery on the trails are magical. The horses are all beautiful, healthy, well taken care of and extremely safe to ride. Erin introduces you to each horse even if you’re not paired with that horse. She goes over everything about the horses from start to finish. Safety, directing the horse, horses background/history and their personalities. I’ve been to many horseback riding locations and this one by far is one of the best. I definitely recommend this experience for all riders from guests who have never ridden to experience riders to small children

Honestly the best place on earth. I went there as a camper and couldn’t let it go Because of all it has to offer. I made some life long friendships and have tons of stories to tell. I went back as a counselor and had the best summer. I appreciate all of the staff currently and in the past as well as the ones to come.

We had high hopes for Camp Grier seeing as how we sent 3 children there this year. Nope, we won’t do that again, Our 8, 1/2 year old was treated like a kindergartener. They have rules like “Flat On your Back” which means the child is to lay flat on their back daily for downtime. Which come to find is 1.5 hours a day for the younger ones and only 30 minutes for a grade apart. Some cabins are allowed out and able to mingle during this time. No reports of outdoor learning, one ten minute hike all week, no camping, One hole of frisbee golf all week before being told to return to “ Flat On Back”

Very impressed with this camp and the confidence it gave my son. He experienced a physical injury that didn’t allow him to have recess for 6 months or any organized sport or physical activity for a year. It was hard to see him lose the “I can do” attitude. He gained it all back and then some here. I can’t recommend this place enough.
