Finding the right fit for your psychiatric provider can be difficult. It's crucial to find someone with whom you feel safe and connected. I value the client relationship and approach each session with an open mind, respect, and a genuine desire to help. I especially enjoy working with adolescents, teenagers, young adults or those once turned-off by mental health treatment.
After years of working in various mental health settings including inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, I decided to begin a private practice to better support those in my community. I provide comprehensive medication management and brief, supportive therapy for those aged 12-65 in Maryland through telehealth and in-person appointments at my private office.

Services
I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner licensed and based in the state of Maryland. Born and raised in the hills of western Maryland, I grew up constantly surrounded by nature. Even though I loved my small town, I longed to travel the world. After graduating from the University of Maryland with my Master of Science in Nursing, I traveled to Costa Rica and fell in love with the country, the pura vida lifestyle, and my now husband.
I have extensive experience treating a wide variety of issues, including: anxiety and panic attacks, depression, ADHD, personality and mood disorders, psychosis, sleep disorders including insomnia, trauma, PSTSD, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and more. My holistic approach draws from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and solution focused brief therapy (SFBT).
Our first appointment includes a thorough 60-minute diagnostic evaluation, in which we discuss your current medication and make a plan for the future. Together, we will decide on a treatment plan that works for you. I offer 20-minute follow-up appointments for medication management without supportive therapy.

Nurse Practitioner McKenzie is exceptional and she provides care, knowledge, and clinical skills that exceed all of the purported eminent Academic Teaching Psychiatrists from the major mental health facilities in our area.
First, she is not afraid of difficult cases, and despite having a personality disorder that even had my Academic Psychiatrist of 18 years dismiss me and prevent me from seeing anyone at a major mental health center, Nurse Ashley accepted me. Further, I also have the difficult diagnosis of mixed bipolar affective disorder, and most academic psychiatrists won't treat this as well
