These questions seem especially pertinent in today's often chaotic and oppositional world, but the fact is that the Buddha gave teachings on similar issues over 2500 years ago. Shakyamuni Buddha (the historical Buddha) sat under a bodhi tree and vowed not to arise until he'd attained Enlightenment (a state of perfect Wisdom, combined with infinite Compassion).

For most of us, that feels like an impossible task, an unreachable destination. As in any great journey in life, it begins with just a few first steps and slowly, slowly the terrain changes, the mind unwinds and we become accustomed to the process. Orgyen Dorje Den is a Tibetan Buddhist center in the Nyingma tradition, founded by the Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche under the auspices of His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche.

Prince Siddharta was born as the son of a royal family in India over 2500 years ago. As a youth, he enjoyed all the pleasures of the nobility. At the age of twenty-eight he ventured beyond the confines of his privileged life at the palace and for the first time he fathomed the suffering of human existence in terms of aging, sickness, and death.
I've never been to a Buddhist Temple before. What can I expect when I arrive? The downstairs area is open to the public only during classes and events, so it's best to check the calendar before coming. There are two beautiful shrine rooms where our meditation classes and practices are held. We ask that you remove your shoes before entering either of these rooms, as a sign of respect and maintaining cleanliness for a sacred space.
Guru Rinpoche Days & Dakini Days (Tsog): On the 10th and 25th days of the Lunar calendar, the sangha gathers to renew our samaya commitments through meditation on Guru Rinpoche and Dakini Yeshe Tsogyal. All are welcome to join these practices from the Dudjom Tersar. Beginners are encouraged to learn through participation of these Vajrayana pujas.
Orgyen Dorje Den is a fully endowed and vital place of Buddhist practice here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche has worked unceasingly to plant the seeds of dharma so that anyone who is seeking to learn can have access to a true and authentic resource. We have a great opportunity to practice and to otherwise support this sacred lineage.
One of the great benefits of volunteering for a Buddhist Center is that you can further your own spiritual development while simultaneously promoting the spread of peace and compassion in the world. You'll become a part of a sangha (community of Buddhist practitioners) who share the common aspiration of happiness and ultimate realization for all beings.

A Tibetan Buddhist (Vajrayana) center of the Nyingma school, most closely associated with the lineage of the New Treasures of Dudjom under the direction of the Venerable Gyaltrul Rinpoche, and this closely allied with Tashi Choling (Ashland, OR) and Pema Osel Ling (Santa Cruz, CA), as well as the Palyul community. Regularly visited by highly ranking teachers such as Khenchen Namdrol Tsering and H.H. Getse Rinpoche, ODD served as the location for the transmission of both the Nyingma Kama and Rinchen Terzod wangchens under the late Dhomang Yangthang Tulku, and hosts regular pujas.

They have a stunning shrine room, monthly Pujas, Tsoks and incredible teachings on a semi regular basis. The people are kind and I highly recommend checking out this sacred place, under the guiding direction of Venerable Gyaltrul Rinpoche. I simply love it. ♡
