I went to Newbury Visions for several years and they've been excellent every time. Their glasses selection is impressive, with high-end designer lens, and the optometrist is knowledgable and patient. One time, I needed them to fax a prescription to a different store, and they delivered it within 30 minutes! Highly recommended.

I rarely write Yelp reviews but have been so impressed with Dr. Tanlamai and his wife who have taken excellent care of me for 10 years, I felt compelled to post. He is the most thorough, thoughtful and kind optometrist I have ever encountered. As I've gotten older and my vision has deteriorated, he always listens and works with me on the best solution for me; I'd inquired about alternatives to bifocals so he changed my non-dominant eye contact lens to a lower Rx and gave me some free samples to try for a few days so I could decide before committing. That worked well for about 6 months

My experience based on their contacts lenses fitting service. I have a pretty bad eyesight and most Dr. cannot find me a good fit for contacts lenses. Dr. Tanlamai is the only one gave me a perfect fit. I am farsighted, nearsighted, and astigmatism. Dr. Tanlamai able to find me a fit with acceptably clear and comfortable vision at all distances (with Monovision technique). I am 100% recommended Dr. Tanlamai if you need contacts lenses fitting service.

Overpriced frames and rude service. I questioned why the same frames were overpriced compared to other stores in the area and online and they became rude and grabbed the glasses out of my hands and literally told me to buy it elsewhere. Not sure if they were having a bad day or what but definitely disappointed in the customer service

I cannot tell you how pleasantly surprised I am with this wonderful office. I'm not kidding when I say I first got nervous because by the looks of it, it hasn't been updated in forever. But this dr. Tanlamai and the dr ratan went out of there way for two things- I was out of contacts just moving to boston from Carolina and they gave me some to hold me over until the Monday I could get in for an exam. Then I ordered glasses that they expedited without extra charge in four days and $60 less than they told me when I left and it's a thinner frame. They are amazing- go here. Really great

I hate to rate this sweet family business low, but they definitely gave me an incorrect glasses prescription which I called to confirm, and was told they'd call me back and they never did.
I used the glasses prescription assuming it to be correct - it was not. I went back and had them update it for me, which they did, but I'll still be out for the updated lenses since I went to Warby. Overall, sort of disappointing.
Stars for getting the correct contact lens prescription and giving me a number of pairs to hold me over while I waited for ones to ship here (dailies) since I was out,

Lifesavers! My glasses broke on my trip to Boston today and I have a presentation tomorrow. Went here on recommendation and they fixed my frame quickly and then wouldn't accept any charge!
While I was there I browsed their collection of frames which were extensive and nice. If I lived anywhere near here this would be the only place for glasses for me.

Been a happy customer here for 3 years. I've established trust with this place and I know the first place to go if something goes awry with my eyes - and that's most important to me. Dr. T is a no nonsense kinda guy and does the job - vision exam, new contact lenses, frames - you name it. He will deliver in the end. Be sure to have your insurance information on hand when you visit. There may not be a ton of frames selection here, but enough to have a few choices across all price ranges.

I had such a pleasant experience during my visit here. I have never had such a thorough eye exam before. Doctor T is great at what he does, and after my first visit today I have a feeling that I'll be going back to see him in a year's time. I've been wearing glasses all my life, so I've been to my fair share of optometrists and I can say Doctor T is the best in my personal experience.

I visited this place recently. Dr. Tanlamai is surely a wizard man, like someone else already noted. He pays a lot of attention while examining your eye. I had a nice experience with the Doctor. My headache problem is resolved.
The frames seem to be expensive as compared to online stores, but I'm not sure how it works in other stores. So I'm not sure if it's fair to say this shop alone is expensive in terms of frames.

Dr T is a wizard, man.
This is the best eye doctor I've ever come across. Nothing will go past him. His exams are very thorough. I've had two so far - for the latest, Newbury Visions fit me in for the same day I called and while the exam included all the tests he's done the first time around, I was done very quickly (~20 min).
I really love that Dr. T takes the time to explain everything he is seeing. Very kind mannered, charismatic, and transparent. I wouldn't go anywhere else, as I feel that I'm in the hands of an expert.

Wow, an optometrist that actually knows what he's doing! I've spent the last four years squinting and walking past people on the street because I couldn't see more than 10ft and had pretty much given up on being able to see clearly again (the last 3 optometrists I went to essentially told me that "this is as good as it gets"). Dr. T took his time, didn't want to see my old prescription and just started from the beginning (can you see the giant letters? no? OK, let's start here...). I'm pretty much blind without glasses or contacts. As in, I can't see the neon glowing numbers on my alarm clock positioned as close to the bed as possible on the edge of my nightstand. The eye exams here are lengthy, thorough, and usually multi-step, so be prepared to spend some time at Newbury Visions. This isn't your typical breeze in/breeze out kind of cursory eye exam. You might also be offered an opportunity to exam your own inner eyelid with a handheld mirror if you're lucky.

Negative: Unable to provide recommendation after having issues with prescription sunglasses made in this place. Despite my complains, Newbury Vision kept their stance that nothing was wrong with the lenses... I was $250 out of pocket and unable to use these glasses....
Fast forward 2 years after, I was able to learn from a doctor in CA than I belong to the ~5% of the population "allergic" to polycarbonate lenses! Newbury Vision did not identify the issue/provide solutions... Lesson learned on my end and wished

Came here about a month ago to get my eyes checked and to get a new prescription for contact lenses. It was my first time going to the optometrist since getting off my parent's insurance, so to be completely fair, I was bumbling a bit. However, I was very disappointed, especially given the great reviews this place had on Yelp.
