LOOK Optical has been offering personalized eye-care from the heart of Maynard since 2008, and continues to service the area with unique designs of eye-wear and customized contact lens creations. We carry frames from small design houses as well as our own line of frame designs: F.A.C.E. At this time, the best way to communicate is by email as ALL appointments will need to be scheduled.

We started going to Look Optical after moving to Stow in 2014. From the first visit, we found Alex, Trish, and the team to be warm and inviting. The store was clean and well-organized, and the glasses selection was superb. Both my husband and I wear contacts, as needed, and in this field, we found Look Optical to be heads-and-tails above the competition. Alex did a contact lens evaluation on both of us, at our initial appointment. He measured the shape of our eyes, and re-checked our prescriptions, among other things. I first discovered Look Optical about 8 or 9 years ago after I moved to Maynard, and it has become the only place I will ever shop for my eyewear. Alex is an incredible practitioner and his shop Look felt incredibly safe to visit even during the height of COVID. He is hospitable and engaged, and I found my perfect pair of frames. Alex’s craftsmanship is high quality as well as unique, and he’s committed to finding the right frames for every one of his visitors. On top of all that, the shop has a drum kit and great vibes. Amazing in this day & age to find an honest optician that will tell you if you don’t even need new glasses or not! He does not want to sell you anything if you don’t need it! Even if you have insurance And go elsewhere,you will have to pay the deductible, etc., so you’ll be out of pocket regardless, and they will be happy to take your money. Alex will tell you what you need straight up, or what you don’t need straight up. Amazing good old fashioned service which is why he is so highly regarded in the area. This is THE best optical store, in my experience. They are friendly, prompt, and never try to up-sell. In fact, if an over the counter pair of readers will do, they will suggest that instead of grabbing your $$. My family and I have been going to Alex at Look Optical for many years. I can't say enough how much I value his professionalism. The most important change he suggested recently was the switch from monthly contacts to daily contacts. He was the first optometrist to inform me about a parasite known as Acanthamoeba, which can result in vision loss if not treated properly and promptly. I also value the amount of time and attention he devotes to each customer, and if there is a wait, I don't mind because he always gives such thoughtful advice. Alex is wonderful! I visited Look Optical after having (terrible) service with my (NOW previous) eye doctor and eye glass center. I came from a eye MD/ eye glass center who showed minimal human interaction, they always treated me like a number, gave me an outrageous bills for mediocre prescription glasses. To top it off the exam and prescription glasses weren't covered by insurance.
Then I met Alex! I was welcomed and he made me feel like an old neighbor friend on my first visit. He told me to take my time looking. There were so many choices everything from traditional to trendy eye/ sun glasses

Alex Thayer and his team are phenominal. I moved from Chicago to Boston about two years ago and spent a lot of time avoiding getting my eye exam even though I knew it was due to be soon enough needed. I had a friend who referred me to this shop.

Around four and a half years ago, my son came home from school with a note saying a screening indicated that he has vision issues. I HIGHLY reccomend going here for your glasses. I'm 22 and had to get my first pair ever, and was having a really hard time at all the usual stores (lens crafters, target, etc) finding anything that I liked on my face. Alex was super friendly and helpful, and went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and happy with the glasses I chose from his selection. All of the glasses in here are unique. Some of them have very intricate and artistc frame designs, and most are extremely light weight materials. There are no Ray Bans or Coach (etc) brands here, but there are a bunch of styles

I started going to Look shortly after we moved to Maynard. I can't say enough good things about Alex and his store. He is always so kind and accommodating. He has a personal touch that you don't find very often and I truly feel as if he cares about me & my eyes! He is always available to help contact lens wearers (I am one myself) and says to always drop by if your contacts are uncomfortable. Like I said, honesty can't say enough good things! I have all my eye glass needs completed at Look Optical. Alex is a true professional, who works with each customer to ensure a quality experience is had and that they leave the store with the product that is best for them, not necessarily what is best for the bottom line which is what is usually the case in large chain stores. I fully support small, family owned business whenever possible, at Look Optical - that is never a problem.

Alex Thayer runs a great local business. My teenage son and I both have glasses from Look Optical and we are very pleased. Great selection, great service, and Alex cares about delivering a quality product. I've been wearing glasses since I was about 7, and this was the most positive experience I've ever had with an optician. I'll be going back to get some sunglasses. I don't even know where to start with this establishment. I've been wearing glasses for 42 years. In all those years, going to other businesses and doctors, I've never once experienced the level of service that I get from Look Optical. Its like trying to compare a fast food place to a double eagle steak house or a discount jewelry store to the store with the little blue box. I have had more positive consumer experiences here than any retailer. Alex, who owns this establishment, is great on so many levels: technically, personally, and fashionably. He suggested a new type of bifocal contact lens for me that corrects astigmatism and painstakingly fit me. The correction is terrific. Who would have guessed?

He sent my glasses back to the factory to get the thinnest lens possible despite my extreme near-sightedness. He stayed late to fit my glasses with a smile on his face and allowed me to borrow frames for a few days to make my initial decision. He invited me to call him anytime if I have any problems and gave a personal number.

Alex the owner thoughtfully fitted me with eyeglasses that are fashionable, flattering and comfortable to wear for many hours of computer use. Alex listened and took precise notes about my lifestyle in relation to my vision, such as the distance I sat from my computer monitor and the places I would be wearing my new eyeglasses the most frequently. Dr. Elkind also did a very gentle eye exam. I get frequent compliments on my eyeglasses and have often referred new customers to this business.

I would highly recommend Look Optical. I have been to many eye care places and have never received such great service. I am not a big fan of eyeglasses and wear my contacts exclusively except at night. My vision changed which required me to wear reading glasses. A major pain. Two other eye places told me I have to live with it, that is what happens when you get older, but Alex worked very hard to help me find the right combination.
