This is was the first time visiting this place and trying out authentic Japanese food.
Service - At the entry We were asked vaccination card in order to be seated inside which is mandated as per SF city law. Post that had to order at the counter before being seated. The server was very helpful in answering the questions.
Food - Takoyaki was yum and flavorful!
We also ordered Modanyaki ( modified version of okonomiyaki) with vegetarian option so it had pancake with veggies lying on a bed of noodles and fried egg. It's definitely a serving size of 2 and quite scrumptious !
Best part was we

The options for Hiroshima-style (with noodles) okonomiyaki in San Francisco is a bit lacking, and Izumiya leaves a lot to be desired with what they have offer.
I've ordered their Modern-Yaki (essentially their Hiroshima-style with noodles) okonomiyaki multiple times and they've been a disappointment every single time.
Each layer of the Modern-Yaki is a disappointment. The top layer is mushy and oversaturated with sauce. In stark contrast, the noodle layer is flavorless and dry. It is like they simply boiled noodles and added it to the dish without any seasoning whatsoever. And to

Came in today for lunch with a group of friends. I ordered a deluxe okonomiyaki and it was delicious! Portion was filling too! My friends enjoyed their ramen and bento boxes. Despite the unique presentation of their food, (it's a mix of paper and porcelain dishware??) don't let it discourage you from eating here!!! Will come back again for the Okonomiyaki soon!!!

Don't let the modest storefront fool you, there's a great meal to be had here.
Whether you're getting take out or dining in, the modern okonomiyaki is great. I normally get the vegetable one to share between two since the portions are pretty big.
If you've never had okonomiyaki before, it's kind of like a savory Japanese pancake with filling in it.
Izumiya's version is crispy on the outside with lots of great filling on the inside. You can choose to have it either traditional or modern style. The modern version has noodles with the perfect bite nestled within

I was walking around Japantown and checking out the mall next to the pagoda when I stumbled on this restaurant. I haven't had okonomiyaki in a really long time so I decided to come here to try it.
I ended up getting the seafood okonomiyaki, and I did not regret it. The dish had plenty of seafood in it, and had a good flavor, although I personally would have liked to see a little more cabbage.
The price is definitely on the expensive side, especially compared to what you would typically find in Japan or Korea, but I think it's on par for how much Japanese/Korean restaurants charge for

This place has that grill smell that'll whet your appetite and then stick to your hair and clothes hours after you leave. The menu has quite a variety of options (okonomiyaki, bento boxes, donburi, ramen, etc). I came to this place because I googled "okonomiyaki in Japantown SF" and this was the first hit that came up in my search. Does this place deserve to represent okonomiyaki for Japantown SF? 100% yes!
I tried their modern yaki with beef ($20). The modern yaki has the same okonomiyaki base but adds yakisoba and fried egg. Although it is a few dollars more expensive than the

I think this place is severely underrated! It's this little hole in the wall next to Sophie's crepes (friendly plug because their crepes are ) and it's so good!
I got the katsudon and our table shared the pork okonomiyaki and it was so good! It's been forever since I've had this and it brought back so many memories. This place is pretty fairly priced and I'd definitely come back!

Honestly don't know why I never knew this place existed. I have been to the mall several times and have gone to get crepes and different school supplies next door. Happened to be in a search for okonomiyaki and found this place. Got the original and the size was huge. Flavor was great and service was fast. Took me back to when I had it in Japan. Satisfies the okonomiyaki craving for sure!

Take out on 3/18/2021. Izumiya is an authentic Japanese person owned restaurant offering casual 食堂 dining. We used to come here as a "safe bet" restaurant back in the day when we were still watching movies at the AMC. Things have certainly changed since then. The menu hasn't changed much though. They still offer the same options as before. Tonight I had their deluxe (pork, scallop, squid) okonomiyaki, modern yaki (adds fried eggs and yakisoba noodles), $18. They don't offer the wet Tokyo style, monjayaki, here. Izumiya does offer a decent okonomiyaki. The top layer had plenty of bonito flakes

Really solid, delicious meal here. We got to Japantown early-ish in the morning to avoid the crush of people on Saturdays, which was a good decision because the Kintetsu Mall was PACKED last Saturday. We were at Izumiya at noon, when they're supposed to open, but they didn't wind up opening until 12:25. Not a huge deal, it at least gave me time to look at the menu through the windows.
I got the chicken katsu donburi ($13.50) and an order each of the grilled and deep fried pork gyoza for the table to share ($6.50 per order). My fiancé got the modern yaki deluxe ($18), and my brother

Love this spot so much! It's my go-to for okonomiyaki since I was a teen! I love getting the veggie modern yaki with some miso or udon on the side! Other dishes like the bento are also great if you want variety. You get the best deal for your money and the staff there are very humble and kind and will let you know if there's any delay. Absolute fav :)

Izumiya is one of our favorite places to eat at Japantown. We've dined in (pre-COVID) and gotten take out (during COVID).
We were in the area recently and placed an order (two Modern Yakis) on the Yelp app, via Grubhub. After spending 5-10 minutes finding parking, husband came in to pick up the order. Lo and behold, online ordering is no longer something they support. They said they've been trying to get Yelp to remove the feature but haven't had any luck. Husband placed our order again and it was ready within 15 minutes. They're apparently considering putting donuts on the

This place does it all, and well! The only place I've seen with organic Boba, caring about the quality of their tea ingredients. And then alone a full blown restaurant serving almost all Japanese dishes. They have amazing takoyaki, super tasty. And oh man, the okonomi yaki is as good as what I had in Tokyo! So good.
