Buddha's most profound insight into the nature of the mind is as revolutionary today as it was 2500 years ago: the mind is the source of all happiness and suffering. All of it. At KMC PHL, we learn the practical, every day application of Buddha's wisdom to create authentic happiness, experience freedom from suffering, and help others do the same.

Kadampa Buddhism is a Mahayana Buddhist school founded by the 11th century Indian Buddhist master, Atisha, who skillfully arranged all of Buddha's teachings (Dharma) into a clear and sequential presentation, known as "Lamrim" in Tibetan. Atisha's followers became known as "Kadampas."

By training in meditation, we create an inner space and clarity that enables us to control our mind regardless of the external circumstance. Gradually we develop mental equilibrium, a balanced mind that is happy all the time. Please note: there are NO morning meditations from Monday 10/25 - Thursday 10/28 due to the International Fall Festival.

If we want true, lasting happiness we need to develop and maintain a special experience of inner peace. The only way to do this is to train our mind through spiritual practice. For students who wish to deepen their study of Buddha's teachings, KMC PHL offers Foundation Program (FP).
Foundation Program students have the opportunity to study Buddhist texts in great detail with an experienced teacher, engage in one on one and group discussion, and ask questions. The Foundation Program is currently studying the text, Universal Compassion, Inspiring Solutions for Difficult Times, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

What is enlightenment? It is the inner light of wisdom that is completely free from all mistaken appearance, and whose function is to bestow mental peace upon each and every living being every day. Kadampa Meditation Center Philadelphia is offering the opportunity to receive the International Fall Festival Green Tara Empowerment together as a community via livestream at the Center.

I came here as a skeptic in search of what this whole "mindfulness" trend was all about. I found I have been living my life without an essential tool that can help me focus and be happy in my day to day. If you are looking for a place to try out meditation this is worth a try. I personally started with a day I found interesting off the schedule and haven't stopped going since.

Had a very nice experience at a day long class. Have never done any formal meditation before and am only slightly familiar with Buddhist practices. The center is light, very comfortable, and relaxing. They provided fruit salad, croissants, cookies, tea, water. Close to good selection of restaurants too. Parking deck < block away.
