Services
Most of the time, "small group personal training" isn't personal at all! Everyone does the same thing, even though they may not have the same goals or same experience level. We don't do that here. You have an individual program - you do your thing, and the folks you're training along side do their thing.
Olympic weightlifting class is appropriate for both beginners and experienced, competitive weightlifters. There's a strong emphasis on proper technique and smart programming - and zero emphasis on ego - so that you can reach your strength goals quickly and safely. Weightlifting class is taught by experienced coaches only.
Powerlifting Class is appropriate for both beginners and competitive, experienced powerlifters. We prioritize teaching proper form and technique and smart programming so that you can reach your strength goals quickly and safely. Our Powerlifting Team competes in several meets each year. Powerlifting class is taught by experienced coaches only.
At GrassIron we offer smart, organized Small Group Personal Training, Olympic Weightlifting, and Powerlifting Classes. All types of training are based on the latest research and years of hands-on experience. Our focus is always on the quality of instruction, safety and quantifiable results. Our most popular option, Small Group Personal Training, is also our most effective option.
A consultation generally lasts 45 minutes. We'll spend the first half of the hour talking about your health history, previous training experience, any injuries you've sustained, and your specific fitness goals. Don't worry - a Movement Assessment isn't a workout! We have you do a brief series of movements in order to assess your flexibility and to check for muscular imbalances.

Great experience! Visited the gym with a friend who is in the powerlifting class. The vibe is awesome. Laid back and chill. Staff is friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and fun. Good variety of equipment in a clean and well-maintained space. If you want to lift without pretense, this is the place for you.

I just had a beautiful session with Amalia, and I'm on cloud nine! We are home-gym weightlifters, and I've been intimidated by the snatch for a long time now. I booked a session with Amalia and she totally demystified the lift for me within the first 20 minutes. I was so thrilled I could have cartwheeled out of that gym! It is such a pleasure to be coached by a pro - I felt safe and confident through all the lifts. It should also be mentioned that this gym is spotless, and their COVID protocols are rock solid. I'm someone who is probably on the more cautious side about social distancing

I absolutely love this gym! They have great protocols in place for COVID right now. I truly free safe going to the olympic weightlifting class. The trainers are experienced, knowledgeable and pay attention to details. I feel I have gotten stronger and better at technique. I love the atmosphere and the layout of the gym, especially for lifting. I recommend this place!

I've been going to Grassiron 3x a week for about 5 years, primarily for weight training. They are absolutely fantastic. You'll find all sorts of people here—all ages, all sizes, all abilities—from competitive lifters to 75-year-olds wanting to improve their balance and strength. The entire team of trainers puts a focus on form and safety, and they write your program geared toward your specific goals. I train under Amalia, but all the other trainers I've interacted with are nice and very knowledgeable. Throw in nice Eleiko bars and what more could you ask for?!?

Grass Iron is by far the best gym I've ever been to. The trainers are friendly, bright, and they really know what they're doing. They focus not only on what I want, but also on things I didn't know I wanted. The space is clean and sharp and the music isn't blasting at an obnoxious volume like most gyms I've been to - it's at just the right level. It's hard, rewarding work in a lighthearted atmosphere. I can't recommend Grass Iron enough.

I can't say enough good things about this gym or the trainers that work there. I got a consultation with Marguerite feeling quite anxious, as I have very little gym experience and was timid about changing my life up to be more active. Marguerite was more than understanding and made me feel comfortable from the get go. Letting me know that GrassIron was there for me and this feeling of nervousness wasn't unusual. Sounds dramatic but GrassIron Gym (Amalia & Pattie & their trainers) has truly CHANGED MY LIFE!
For the 11.5+ years I have benefitted from their knowledge of exercise/fitness AND nutrition, I continue to be amazed at how they were able to teach an "old" dog (started at age 45.5 so you do the math!) new tricks to maintain a healthy weight while staying strong and fit AT ANY AGE!!! Best gym in Austin hands down. Owners are experts in their fields. I love this place and have been working out with them for 12 + years. They have become family. I have been training with Amalia for the best 3 months. Any other gym I would of already given up. I have fibromyalgia and severe back pain for a car accident. Amalia is so amazing and gentle. She started me off slowly never pushing me beyond what I could handle. She texts me to check in on how I'm feeling. This gym gives me the personal attention I really need. I love that it is a family and now judges you while you are there. Amalia gives me a lot of encouragement. Her attention to detail is fantastic. Powerlifting 3x/week has been the most effective fitness approach I've taken, after having tried Camp Gladiator, Crossfit, running, walking, and a variety of diet approaches. I've been a client of this gym for nearly two years, and in that time have met all my fitness goals, have participated in one powerlifting and two Strongman events, and am in the best shape of my life.
If you'd never done personal training, it isn't the cheapest way to go, but having someone else do the planning, tracking, and half the racking and unracking of weights means more time to lift and recover

These guys rock, plain and simple. The gym is owned by two ladies who themselves have been active in lifting for a long time. The trainers they hire are very (very) knowledgeable and talented. I have a number of old injuries that have been challenging to work around, but these trainers seem to have a good trick/workaround for everything! :)
The staff is very friendly and knows their stuff quite well. I've been focusing a lot on form here and they are very VERY good about helping me improve my form on various lifts and movements.

I've been coming to GrassIron regularly since November 2011. The sense of community here is off the charts. They maintain a very positive and supportive atmosphere where you feel _motivated_ to perform - never _pressured_ to perform. Smiling faces of ALL ages, light-hearted conversations, sweat, hard-work, all under the same roof. A place where Olympic weightlifters and fitness beginners can co-exist. I've never felt intimidated here - only INSPIRED!
Everybody here is getting STRONGER. Everybody's having a good time. This is simply not something you will see anywhere else.

I've been taking the Cardio-Strong Class with Marguerite Beckingham three times a week for almost a full year now. I've lost 15 pounds and 5+ inches off my waist and hips. My abdominal muscles are stronger, I've got far better muscle tone in my arms and legs and I recently ran (and finished!) a 5K!

I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondilitis... which is basically degenerative arthritis and needed to find someone I could work with that wouldnt hurt me. My girlfriend had been telling me to go talk to Pattie Farley with GrassIron for at least a year and I had been resisting. With the new circumstances, I was left without a choice.
