The Kim Foundation was founded in 2001. Since its inception, priorities and initiatives have shifted and grown, but our commitment to supporting and promoting mental health and suicide prevention has always remained at the core of what we do. Our staff continues to grow based on the needs of the community, and we are committed to remaining relevant and accessible to meet the changing times in the future.
The Kim Foundation is a lasting memory of Larry Courtnage's daughter, Kim, who lived with mental illness and ultimately took her life. He vowed to continue building awareness around a topic that we still see far too much stigma around and to help other families avoid experiences that his family encountered through Kim's treatment and recovery process.

Services
A "suicide survivor" is a term used for an individual who has survived the loss of a loved one to suicide. Losing a loved one to suicide can bring a flood of overwhelming emotions for those left behind. The Metro Area LOSS Team is made up of suicide loss survivors and volunteer mental health professionals.
Linked By Legacy is an initiative that was first started by the Tom Karlin Foundation and The Kim Foundation after realizing their shared mission of suicide prevention. Together, we knew that there were other family foundations in the country that were created in a loved one's memory that we would want to work with, and from that, Linked By Legacy was created!
More Tomorrows is a partnership public awareness campaign focused on suicide prevention in the Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare area in Nebraska. Suicide is a very real public health problem that affects individuals from all walks of life. It is important to remember that your story is not over. There are more laughs to be had.
Don't Be Sidelined was a mental health public awareness campaign created through the collaboration and support of various non-profit and health and human service organizations throughout Nebraska in partnership with Husker Sports Marketing and The Kim Foundation. The goal of the campaign was to provide a collective source for mental health information and resources in order to reduce stigma and encourage people to ask for help.
