Brand deception. Probably white people love their food and restaurant name. I hate the customer service.

We've been coming here forever when they had the smaller location. Only formal Chinese place in the East Bay that I take my family visiting from East coast. Great food, great service, great wine selection, beautiful decor. Only downside is trying to get a reservations/ the wait. We did take-out a few times, food was still really good.

Christmas eve pick-up was the literal nightmare before Christmas. Lined up for 30 mins just to pay and another 40 mins to get my food. I placed my order 4 days in advance to secure a pick-up slot but it was obvious that they overbooked and took in way more orders than they can handle. There were dozens of people waiting for their food outside in the cold, and they weren't even really giving any updates as to what time we can expect the food aside from "we're still working on it". I hope that next time, the restaurant will not be greedy and prioritize quality over quantity. It

I've been a loyal customer for the past 8 years. Their food is REALLY good but recently in the past month they hired new staff that are not experienced. It now takes 30-45 mins just to pick up an order that's already paid. There's this new person who just runs around not being able to get our orders out. They actually told me that my order wasn't ready and told me I had to line up again. My order was definitely ready because it was not even warm by the time I received it. Management please invest in training your staff.

Food was just ok. I personally didn't like the pot stickers especially the skin. It was thick and super chewy.

The mango mousse cake is a must!

Their double skin... man. SO GOOD. Been eating here since their prior location had the unfortunate fire. Just recently decided to give them a try again after almost 8 years. Much of their dishes were the same and the quality really remained.

Their recommended dishes are popular for a reason and are time tested and proven. They are consistent in quality. I can't speak to the dine in experience though I would be excited to bring family once they do reopen. The decor and interior style look very nice.

The one downside that will prevent me from eating here more often are the prices. It makes

So they serve Beijing (Mandarin) style banquet cuisine, which is the most popular and one of the least interesting styles of Chinese food, but it isn't particularly Americanized beyond the token American Chinese dishes on the menu -- which are great.

Mandarin Chinese food isn't that good. There's a joke that it was invented by the eunuchs to torture the emperor. They still serve a pinnacle of that cuisine.

They have the best fried rice around. Also the best ribs in Berkeley, which makes no sense. Perfect vegetables also. I usually order ribs, fried rice, and a vegetable.

Great China is one of my favorite places to go for Chinese food in Berkeley! It is a bit pricey compared to the average Chinese restaurant but I'd say that the quality of their food makes it worth it.

We always order the snow pea leaves, family-style tofu, garlic fried rice, and occasionally hot and sour soup. Their food is never disgustingly greasy and you can tell that everything was made fresh. I used to dine in here with my boyfriend before COVID happened, and we're still ordering from them now because we love their dishes so much.

Since the pandemic started, I don't think

Five stars dining in! 3 stars take out. The food was delicious pre-COVID when we ate inside. We got takeout, crispy rice soup, pork dumplings, garlic rice, green beans and pork.
The green beans and pork dumplings were okay, not as good as in the restaurant.
The garlic rice was bland as was the soup. It was over $60 for one dinners worth of takeout food and I will not order takeout here again.

I came here a few months ago in search of authentic Chinese food, and was looking forward to it after reading some positive reviews. Although the food was reasonably tasty, I was disappointed with my experience for a variety of reasons.

First, the process of ordering and picking up food was cumbersome and slightly frustrating. I tried to call to order, and was put on hold for 20-30 minutes before I finally got put through and was told to come pick my food up 3-4 hours later. When I arrived to pick it up, I had to wait for another 30-40 minutes before I got it. However, I do understand that restaurants

I picked up dinner on Monday around 6 pm.

Ordered the Kung Pao Tofu, thinking it would be crispy, fresh and with fresh vegetables and toasted peanut. When I got home, checked the tofu it looked soggy, not fresh at all.

Called to get a refund and didn't want to help me.

4/5 for food (the variety of dishes!) but minus a star for the restaurant never picking up my calls.

Came here a couple of times during COVID and recently just got takeout from caviar app for their Peking Duck!

It made me pretty frustrated that they never picked up my calls multiple times throughout some days. Also, using caviar was a pain too when I set the pickup time at 5:45 pm but it later sent a text saying the Peking Duck was finished at 5ish pm...I wanted to call the restaurant to confirm...but the restaurant never picked up.

The Peking Duck is pretty decent (cannot compare to the ones

This place has very good food and I'm a little embarrassed to say that because it has quite a price tag and being Chinese myself, I know it doesn't take a lot of money to make good Chinese food. That's why I won't be giving the full 5 stars.

The double skin app is my favorite! It's got good flavor and great for the table to share. But again, $20 for a small is a little much.

Other items I've tried and would recommend are the peking duck, braised sea bass and seafood fried rice.

Definitely not your everyday Chinese food because of the hefty $$$, but would recommend

Sooo yum! And definitely worth a trip :)

My roommate and friends went pre-covid (to treat ourself after a grueling round of finals) so I'm not sure how they are handling business now. When we went we got the Walnut Prawns, Family Style Tofu, and Chinese String Beans. Everything was delicious!! Service was decent but food took a while - probably 20-30 minutes.

Walnut prawns were THE BEST! Mouthwateringly good. Other dishes were good but the shrimp took the cake :)

This is a really great place to eat. All the food is really light tasting, little to no oil, and pretty good flavors. Depending on what you like, some food may be a little bit too spicy, but I like that. The most recommended is the peaking duck. Honestly all the dishes taste amazing and worth every dollar. Pretty expensive though.

Rating based on 4 dishes.

Peking duck: Super awesome, of course! I think it's their specialty. Keep in mind, they use little dough wraps instead of buns. Crispy skin, tasty meat.

Chicken fried rice: Good. It's chicken fried rice.

Zhen Jiang spare ribs: Good. Nice and meaty. Kind of overly sweet.

String beans with minced pork: So-so. Overcooked beans are a little touch and chewy.

As much as I adore the P Duck, it can't overcome the other shortfalls. For the price, I expected more. It's almost twice the normal price. But don't get me wrong, I would go back.

COVID review

Sat 5:10pm, called the restaurant and nobody answered. Had to drive there to put down my order.

Ordered PK roasted duck and double skin, their popular dishes. It's been awhile and we were aware of the price, turned out 2 dishes costed almost $100! Double skin large order alone was $36!

Anyhow, the food was packaged nicely for take out. The roast duck was packed in aluminum box with wholes cut out on the cover. I love the thin wrapping and the skin was not fat at all. So even though it was a bit cool when we got home, it wasn't greasy at all.

Had a take-out feast on August 8. Ordered all of our favorites - Peking Duck (of course), Double Skin, Sautéed Crab Meat with Steamed Buns, Salt & Pepper Spareribs, Sautéed Snow Pea Leaves, and Garlic Fried Rice (free if you pay with cash). All dishes traveled well, but we did re-plate a few dishes and had to reheat some of them (we live 30 miles away). We asked for and got a duck carcass (and made some delicious jook).

I think this is a good "special occasion" take out dinner, although definitely a splurge. We ordered a day ahead and picked it up right when the restaurant ordered

The best advice you can receive for this restaurant, is get a reservation. They are the go-to place for AUTHENTIC Chinese food in Berkeley (basically, the exact opposite of PF Chang's). When you're here, you won't be disappointed with anything on the menu. The hard part is picking something, because it's all good. As anywhere, the bigger your party, the more dishes you can order, but here you can really capitalize on that idea.
The service staff is attentive to all that you need, and there's enough of them around.

Came here for lunch during a conference at Berkeley, had no idea it was a popular restaurant in the area and that people would drive here to get their duck. (Otherwise I would have gotten the Peking duck even through it was just lunch). The walnut shrimp was tasty and only $14 as a lunch special with soup and salad.

I’m so excited to have dinner here. Restaurant is open at 5:30pm but lot of people are waiting since 5 pm. I love spicy & sour soup and garlic&pepper prawns. However, I’m so disappointed with HALF TEA-SMOKED DUCK. Me and my friends didn’t like it at all. Actually we planed to get Peking duck but it is available in full size only which is good for big group. :(

The Peking duck is clearly the star of the show at this restaurant. Everything else on the menu is generally good, priced higher than the standard Chinese restaurant but with large servings paired with above average service. Adjust your expectations of price and service accordingly.

Best Chinese Food in Berkeley!
Winter Melon soup, tasty with crab, shrimp, and winter melon. Recommended good soup.
Spare pork rip, taste sweet and sour, recommend together with combination fried rice.
Mongolian Beef is tender juicy and flavored with a Bamiyan taste from the Silk Road. Very good with a glass of beer.
Twice cook pork, sweet and tender with a taste of seasoned black bean, Chinese style.
And lastly, combination fried rice, very good and oily. I love it.

Decent Chinese food. This is a popular Chinese restaurant in Berkeley (they are in the business for over 20 years), it has a big dining area, but it's not enough for everyone. I suggest to make reservation if one doesn't want to wait.

Possibly the best place to get decent Chinese food. We ordered two servings of Peking roast duck, stir fried sea cucumber with brides pork belly, double skin (appertizer), 8 delicacies and sauteed snow pea leaves. All were yummy and decently priced. The service was good and atmosphere was pleasant.
