Classy Indian The landmark former Citibank building at 2323 Shattuck is the home of Namaste Madras Cuisine, a restaurant featuring food from south India. The owners installed cherry wood detailing throughout the building to complement the ornate beamed ceiling designed in 1926 by architect Walter Ratcliff.

Ordered take out for dinner. We got the Aloo Gobi, Paneer Masala and Mix Vegetable Karahi along with a few naans. Also got the Vegetable Biryani and Onion Pakoras.
The curries were good. Not too spicy. The mix veg and paneer masala were good. Skip the Aloo Gobi since it has the same base as the paneer masala.
The veg biryani was a bit bland for out taste. But the portions are great! The onion pakoras were the best of the lot!

I have Eaten here on and off !
To put it In a Nutshell - I'd have to say " Authentic South Indian Fare in A UNIQUE SETTING " !!! The Dhaal-Sambar is especially Good as is the Rasam / Pepperwater Soup. I also had them via Doordash. Good Coconut Chutney !!! I usually get ' The Dosa Combination ' which is a S.Indian Crepe
with Masala Potato Onion Filling ( think it missed Curry Leaves that one can buy locally @ Indian Groceries. They do ' Enhance Flavor '. Coffee & Service were good as well ......It's A ' Heritage Building on Shattuck w/High Ceilings and I hear they have A Bar - I guess Indian Beers

This is not authentic Indian food at all. If you have never tried Indian food and are not familiar with the traditional dishes, you may like it. But for an Indian food junkie like me, the food was close to awful! We ordered Chicken Karahi and lamb biriyani. It looks like the lamb meat was cooked separately and just added to the rice, it was tough and chewy. The rice was missing flavor and it looked like boiled rice fried with curry powder. The Karahi was the most disgusting dish i have tasted. Had nothing to do with this great Punjabi dish, it looked like boiled chicken stew with veggies that don’t

Had 3-4 items last night and all was great. Even kids loved it. I called them just after kitchen-close time but they were able to accommodate and took the same amount of good time to prepare and make good food. Will highly recommend. We ordered vegetarian south-Indian dishes only and it was take-out.

Nice Indian buffet in Berkeley downtown. The atmosphere is very calm, it is not usually crowed and the food is good and prices are fare. Service was pleasant. I will come back with my family. I’d would like to see more non-spicy options in the Buffett. But the sweet options are good and balance out the spicyness of most of the dishes. I am also gluten free and all the options were free of gluten. Chai the is a good way to finish dining in this place.
