Athletes, college and graduate students, and professionals in demanding fields work in environments that place a great deal of pressure upon them to excel and succeed. If you identify with one or more of these roles, it is likely that you have a performance intensive mentality. While this mindset can be a tremendous strength to you, it can also be a psychological risk factor that you may not be aware of.

A Sport Psychologist addresses performance in a range of areas and is sensitive to the unique needs of people in your position. Treatment is designed to maximize your ability to perform at a high level while identifying and removing the barriers that have been holding you back. Life transitions are a significant source of stress for most people, even if the changes are perceived as positive.

I am a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Eugene, Oregon. I earned my Ph. D. in Counseling Psychology in 2006 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and completed both my Predoctoral Internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship at Kansas State University. My doctorate education was guided by the Scientist-Practitioner model, which means that I am trained in both research methods and clinical practice.
It is important for you to find a therapist who is not just qualified to treat your issues, but who is passionate about working with you and with other people like you. I choose to focus on people who identify as performance intensive in personality style and/or through your activities and professions.
Sport psychology is a treatment approach that can benefit anyone who is performance intensive. You fit this description if you are an athlete, a college or graduate student, or a professional in a field that demands a high level of performance often under pressure. You also fit this description if you have high expectations for yourself or if you identify as a perfectionist.
With the advent of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), more people have health insurance benefits, and more of those benefits apply to mental health services. There are several factors to consider when deciding whether to use your insurance to cover your mental health care. The main benefit is financial and it is significant.
Psychotherapy is an investment in yourself. Deciding to seek the help of a professional signifies that you are placing value and importance upon yourself and your well being. It is a commitment of time, money, and effort that you are making to resolve your issues and to become a better version of yourself.
