I often have couples tell me that they want to use their insurance for couples therapy or have been to a couples therapist before and that therapist billed their insurance. So why don't I? Most couples who seek counseling are married or have lived together for at least a few years. Often, by the time these couples seek counseling, their problematic.

Services
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor in the state of Idaho, and I help couples and individuals using Emotionally Focused Therapy. My specialization is helping couples who want to repair and strengthen their relationships, but I also work with a limited number of individual clients. Please take a look around my website to see if my practice matches what you are looking for in therapy.
If you're tired of fighting or feeling disconnected from your spouse, I'm here to help. Couples counseling might feel intimidating, but I will work hard to make it a positive experience for you so your relationship can become a safe haven rather than a source of stress.
I have training from Dr. Sue Johnson, founder of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and I use this method to help couples address the core issues that impact their ability to not only stay together but to love their relationship.Whether you are dating, newly married, or many years into your marriage, I will work to help you develop a more secure connection with your partner.

In addition to working with couples, I work with individual adults who are looking for help in addressing relationship patterns, issues with mood, and negative self-concept. My focus is on helping my clients see themselves as worthy and capable of having secure, lasting relationships. Relationship problems are best addressed in couples therapy, but you might find yourself in a relationship where your partner isn't willing to do therapy.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-supported form of therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. It is based on attachment theory, which has shown that humans actually need secure bonds with others to be happy and healthy. EFT then focuses on how people can create or strengthen the conditions needed for secure connections with others.
I accept cash, check, and credit card payments. Fees are due at time of service, and I do not contract with insurance companies. I can provide you with documentation of your sessions for you to submit to your insurance company, and they may reimburse you for part or all of the services. Reimbursement varies greatly between insurance companies and plans.

I was not a patient of Rise Counseling, Natalie Thomson, but my wife was. I was getting texts to come to therapy and so I showed up to get therapy. I brought one of my best friends mother up to go to a baby reveal party after the therapy session. I was confused because it wasn’t my regular therapy session or number that text me. I still went and it wasn’t for me. After I left my wife’s therapist decided to tell her that I left with another woman, my good friends mom. It upset her so much that she was faking and texting but I couldn’t answer because of the party. That is not what I would

In the time I’ve known Natalie, I have found her to be caring, compassionate and knowledgeable in her field. She is a great communicator and I would recommend anyone looking for marriage counseling to seek her out. She cares deeply for her client’s well being and growth and works hard to provide professional guidance and wisdom.

I saw Natalie for over a year, both as an individual and as part of couple counseling. I am extremely disappointed in her ability to maintain her perspective and professionalism in the counseling process. I felt her style to be uncaring and dismissive when difficult issues arose. She was generally easy to work with when things were at the beginning or fairly simple in nature. However, when it came to more complex issues and difficult emotions, she seemed unable to attend to the needs of her clients. I would not recommend her for EFT therapy or couples counseling.

Natalie Thomson is one of the kindest, most sincere, and intellectual individuals that I have met. As a healthcare practitioner, I am confidently able to refer to her when I see couples or individuals struggling. I know that she upholds the greatest of ethics especially when it comes to her practice and clients. Not only is Natalie punctual and professional, but she is resourceful and has directed me, and others, in the direction of other practices or professionals when needed. In addition to the pursuit of continued learning for the betterment of her clients, she is also compassionate and invested

Natalie is a colleague of mine in the mental health field. She is warm, caring, intelligent and incredibly dedicated to her clients. I have referred clients to her in the past and will continue to do so because I have so much trust in her work. Natalie consistently pursues educational opportunities to advance her skills and expertise in her work with couples and individuals. She makes every effort to ensure that she is providing quality care for her clients. I consider Natalie to be one of the most reputable counselors in the Boise area.
