Owners John Power and Chef Sam McGann opened their 52-seat, soundside restaurant in Duck, NC in 1989. It was a bold move. Duck was just beginning its growth as a vacation destination and the dining choices were limited, even in the summer. The partners started with a fresh approach and brought an option to dining that was just different on the Outer Banks.
As the Town of Duck developed over the years, so did the restaurant by committing to being open all year and updating the decor, service and food along the way. THE BLUE POINT and Duck grew up and evolved together. In 2006, THE BLUE POINT went through an extensive renovation with updated decor, seating, and expanded bar and larger, but still open kitchen.

Services
We have always recognized that THE BLUE POINT is only as good as the people we choose to employ. So, most of our success can be attributed to the truly talented, committed and passionate people who have worked with us through the years. Too numerous to name, their efforts and contributions have allowed us to fulfill our mission.
We highly recommend making reservations up to four weeks in advance during the summer season. We will take them as far as 28 days out and we have very limited walk-in availability. We are currently serving dinner, inside and outside, Tuesday thru Saturday 4:30 to 9:00 PM. Lastly, please practice patience with us as we are trying our absolute best to keep you and our staff safe while continuing to provide you with a memorable dining experience.

The Blue Point has been my and my husband’s favorite restaurant on the Outer Banks since we first encountered it in the 1990s. We watched it with interest during the dot-com rise and fall. We’ve enjoyed the renovations large and small. The food – main stage – has never failed to please us. Recently we brought our two adult children for the first time. Their are dining out standards are high and they were entirely happy dining at the blue point. I don’t want to forget to say that the service by experienced servers leaves nothing to complain about, only compliment. Thank you.

Had a wonderful meal there the other evening. The Tuna special was cooked to perfection! The staff was beyond friendly and the experience was overall wonderful! The only detractor was a lack of bug traps/lights to keep the many local bugs away from food for the outdoor seating area. Not a deal breaker but I ended up fishing bugs out of my wine most of the night. However this comes with the territory. Would recommend this OBX classic to anybody!!

Easily my favorite dining experience in the Outer Banks. I look forward to eating here every year during our annual OBX trip. The scenery, the food, the drinks...everything is phenomenal.
I recommend getting here an hour or so before your reservation (definitely call ahead for a reservation) to enjoy the outdoor bar and seating area. They've got seating under large canopies that provide ample shade and there is plenty of outdoor seating around the bar. The outdoor area overlooks the Currituck sound and if you're lucky enough you can watch the sunset while having a drink. The cocktails

I really enjoyed this restaurant. The staff was very friendly and I really liked the atmosphere. The food was exceptional and so was the service. We had a minor hiccup with our reservation not showing up but they took care of that very quickly and we were seated right away. We will definitely be back!

Just wanted to update my previous review. Whenever we vacation in OBX, Blue Point is one of our go to's for dinner, and it never disappoints. THE BLUE POINT still strives to be an active ingredient in the neighborhood mix of locals and visitors. Of course, we want our Duck, NC restaurant to be THE place for a special occasion, as it has been now for several generations of families - but also a place where everyone is comfortable just stopping by for lunch or dinner, or just a drink...for good food, good wine and good friends....and oh yeah...for great sunsets!

What a really disappointing experience. We had made a reservation in advance and asked specifically to be sat in the dining room either at a table or booth. Apparently, they do not tell you either before you arrive or after you arrive whether they can honor that request. We were sat in an adjoining porch. It had three tables: one consisted of 3 persons, ours was 3 persons, and a table of 12 20 year old-something girls. This table of 12 was clearly a violation of the COVID rules and on top of it were loud and obnoxious for the 2 hours and 250 dollars time we were there.

Special celebratory dinner at The Blue Point - first time here and I would rate our total experience, including food quality and taste, a 3.5 which I will round up to a 4. The reason for rounding up, not down, is because of the service (awesome) and ambience (awesome).
Here's the thing: we were hoping to catch the sunset with an early dinner (also good for beating any dinner rush during covid). Came on a Wed - sunset right around 5 that day, place opens at 5! Plus it was rainy and overcast. But we made reservations for 5 and requested a table with a water view. At 5, the parking lot was

We went to The Blue Point on September 27, 2020 during covid and it was a fantastic decision. The restaurant was taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of customers.
Beyond that, the food was amazing and while we were there at night and so didn't get the best view of the sound, the waterfront location is still great. I'm sure the place is much more crowded during normal times, but I'll still make an effort to eat here every time I'm at the Outer Banks.

A magical experience. One of the most beautiful sunsets we've ever seen, plus exceptional food, stellar service, hand crafted drinks. It was all amazing. The she-crab soup appetizer and the creme brulee dessert were great, along with seared sea scallops and the special of the day, red fish. The drinks, a Manhattan and an elderberry gimlet, were awesome. The restaurant was excellent about social distancing and masks.

A couple of good things and a couple of bad things but generally highly overrated.
To start with, we had the earliest reservation at 5pm opening. Since everyone told me I must get a booth, I had asked when I phoned in my reservation. Though nothing was promised, I was told that since we had the earliest possible reservation we would very likely get a booth. As we were being seated, not in a booth, I saw at least 2 4-top booths and 1 2-top booth. I inquired about the booth but got a hard no. That was bad.
Our waitress was good and so was the peach salad.
Bad was the flavorless corn bread, other
