Our staff have been featured on TV and radio as subject matter experts for a variety of topics. Welcome to the New Horizons Center for Healing team page. We are proud to be the most comprehensive outpatient counselling and mental health center in the state of Texas. Our team consists of every type of licensed professional under the umbrella of mental health.

This includes but is not limited to Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Play Therapists, AASECT Certified Sex Therapists, Eating Disorder Specialists, etc. Our professional work endlessly to provide cost-effective and quality healing and treatment for our patients.
Services
What makes our facility unique is that we have different North Dallas counselors with their own specializations, so you can be sure that whatever condition or service you're seeing us for, you'll be paired up with someone who has the experience and skills to help. From mental health screening to rehab in McKinney Texas, we have professionals who can help you every step of the way.
New Horizons Center for Healing providers with more than 100 years of combined mental health practice experience are a power house of knowledge and expertise in variety of sub-specializations within the mental health profession. Many of our providers are either graduate faculty professors in area universities, serve in national or state wide leadership roles, or are authors of scholarly articles and books.
Board-certified psychiatrists are scarce in the field of psychiatry. Not only have they obtained a medical degree, they have then specialized in psychiatry, and then spent another 2 years specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry. In total, they have a minimum of 14 years invested in study and training for this field.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of mental health counseling (psychotherapy) that identifies and addresses negative or inaccurate thinking and equips the client with new coping skills to better manage stressful life situations in a healthy way. CBT works well for individuals who are able to be introspective.
Grief is a normal emotional reaction to a significant loss, and often, grief counseling can be a helpful way to accept or recover from painful loss. These losses can be anything from a loss of a loved one, animals, your health, or simply the loss of a way of life, such as losing your job or getting a divorce.

This was my first experience with a psychiatrist ever, and i thought it was going to be better than it actually was.. i saw dr. thein over the phone and she seemed to not care at all. she barely greeted me, and i had to repeat myself a couple of times because she wasn’t even listening to me, and the “40 minute initial appointment” turned out to be around 25. on top of all this, they charged me $350 for an appointment because they “didn’t accept my insurance” and they never even told me this!!! they claimed to have left a voice message stating this, i checked, no voicemail. this place

Do not trust your mental health to this office. The doctors don’t care if your prescription is filled and will charge a $75 late fee for virtual appointments that they arrive late to and leave early. All the appointments are super late, after 6:30pm and don’t last more than 5 mins.

My husband and I started marriage counseling with Dr. Amir Abbassi as our last effort, we were already talking divorce. From the start we were very comfortable with Dr. Abbassi. His warm demeanor put us at ease, and his expert knowledge and wisdom quickly got our attention. We recently celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary which we could not have achieved on our own. Dr. Abbassi truly saved our marriage!
I have also counseled with Dr. Abbassi seperately in order to get through a personal situation in which I felt defeated. While experiencing loss, anxiety, and depression, Dr. Abbassi once again
