Waste of time and uses a cookie cutter approach with their clients. I received a "case review" for $3000 that was word for word, verbatim, with another client Spolin represented (who had completely different charges)The only thing he and his team did was exchange out the name. Very foul and unethical. Maybe he is good at defending those who are in the midst of fighting charges but he is piss poor for post conviction relief. I requested a refund and would never recommend anyone to them

We hired Spolin Law to do a case review for my nephew. We believed that he qualified for SB 775 and after reading everything on their web site we felt that this firm was most up to date with this new bill. After having them do a case review and seeing the level of effort and detail they put in our family was very impressed. After talking about it over the holidays we will be hiring this firm to help with SB 775 as his case review showed that was the most promising way forward for him. Will update after bill becomes law.

Here are the honest PROS and CONS of Spolin Law. READ THIS FIRST if you are thinking of hiring them.

PRO:
They do criminal law appeals and seem to know this material well.
Their posts indicate that cases have multiple attorneys assigned. Always better to have a team of lawyers than just one person.
There is an actual support staff helping on cases
They have a ton of success stories in the media, so it looks like they can get results. Just google "Spolin Law client walks free" for one example.

CON:
They are not a generalist firm that can just handle anything, like dui, immigration,

One of the firm's lawyers made an oral argument that was publicly broadcast. It was a few weeks ago on January 5 in front of the CA's 2nd District Court of Appeal, broadcast because they were not letting anyone into the court building because of the virus. The lawyer made a good point which was that the right to a lawyer is often used in criminal court as a right for the court to never hear a word that a defendant has to say, even if the defendant is trying to speak up in court. I think that's a pretty smart way to show how the law is sometimes used to silence people.

The attorney caitlin dukes is patient and easy to talk to. without the habeas writ I don't know how it is done because there are a lot of elements. caitlin does not seem to talk down or use fancy words to intimidate, that is sometimes done. its hard to find this in lawyers.

Hired them to do a post-conviction case review (which, to be fair, was decently thorough) and it was supposed to be applied towards any legal work. They ended up wanting to refer us to another counsel after the person whose case it is got upset about the options being presented and expressed this verbally, but not disrespectfully, over the phone to the case manager. They did NOT honor the agreement that the case review investment would be applied to future legal work. They also had another staff member call by proxy to give us this news, rather than having the case manager involved call us directly

I just signed them on recently to handle my partner's case whom is currently incarcerated. so far, so good. they were responsive, but like the last firm we used, we shall see how it goes. spoke to marti wise who i appreciated w spending time over the phone and not making me feel rushed. i look forward to what they can do for us, and hoping they prove the negative reviews i've read on here wrong, or the least that theyve improved since from it.

I received one of their mailers for my fiancé's case so I decided to call them for a consult. The receptionist had me on hold for a really long time and asking for our names in between hold times and not all at once because she had soo many calls she said. She then transferred me to a case manager or attorney who wouldn't even let me finish my questions and was so rude. She then got upset and said her office wasn't going to be able to help me. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME CALLING THIS PLACE!

WOW. Thank you for everything! Life without the possibility of parole sentence was just commuted by the governor. I am attaching an image of the commutation of sentence that Governor Gavin Newsom
just signed for James Heard, one of Spolin Law's clients. Mr. Heard had a sentence of life without the possibility of parole LWOP, so there had been no way he would ever get out of prison. Now all that is
changed with the signature of the governor's pen. As Gov. Newsom said in the form he released, when Mr. Heard was 22 he shot his romantic rival in a murder case. He was sentenced to LWOP and

I would recommend the firm, especially for writs. They have a very fast response time when you have a question. I initially consulted their website for a writ of habeas corpus and there is a lot of helpful information that is available for free. It did not seem like your typical lawyer page where they just ask you to call the firm over and over. There is actually helpful material about writs of habeas corpus, which can be pretty confusing. For example I did not know that state writs and federal writs are different and deal with different types of material. Either way, they are providing free

Just got off the phone with the team at Spolin Law and had to write a quick review. If you're not in-the-know this is the firm that won the appeal that said that PC 1170.95 is constitutional. I've followed the case, B299126 in the Court of Appeal, and I'm sure the inmate is glad with the choice he made. To be totally balanced, whether you like Spolin Law or not will depend on your background.  Law enforcement people will probably not be fans, as the firm defends people convicted of crimes. On the other hand, inmates and their families will probably like the firm. The same

I am impressed with the level of service a Spolin Law. The staff is answering the phones live even now, when most businesses are shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. When you have a family member in prison it means a lot to have the law firm return calls fast and treat you like someone important.

Great job. Thank you for getting Rodney's wrongful murder conviction overturned! Anyone who doubts whether Spolin Law can get the job done just needs to look at the court records for department S24 of Long Beach courthouse from January 28, 2020.

Rodney had been in prison for about 17 years and had tried everything. Court of appeal, writ of habeas corpus, federal writ, more. He had a great criminal defense lawyer through the years, but what actually won it was when the Spolin Law lawyers took on the case and fought an sb1437 motion. Aaron Spolin wrote a long document (legal brief) to

I would like to commend Mr. Spolin and his team on correcting my concerns. Initially, I had a really bad experience due to Mr. Spolin being on vacation. I was paired with an attorney who did my case review and it was horrible.

Mr. Spolin and Marti Wise quickly fixed my concerns. I sent a message and informed them how displeased I was with the level of service. To my surprise, i was called back by Mr. Spolin. He listened to my concerns, he apologized and he re did my case review.

I was able to go into the office, meet with him and he explained everything in detail. He and the team made me feel

This review is long over due. In 2017 I hired Mr.Spolin to represent my spouse in a very VERY serious case. I'm happy to see others had positive experiences with him but I wouldn't recommend him for a serious case such as murder. He was a very attentive lawyer but I just don't think he is equipped to handle cases of that type of magnitude when a defendant is facing life in prison and you lack confidence in the court room your client can feel it and sense it as well. The prosecutors can see it as well and you become a door mat. My spouses first offer was 29 years and he actually presented

Choosing a criminal defense attorney can be a stressful and difficult decision to make in the first place. Most likely if you're coming across this page, you're probably researching many other options and hoping that you're choosing the right person that can help you. I've decided to go with Aaron Spolin a few weeks ago, realizing if I want to have a higher chance to get my charge lowered, or dismissed- I would need to hire an attorney beforehand rather than requesting one on the day of. I've had consultations with many, but I'm glad I went with Aaron.
Reason being is that compared to the others

I loved his initial presentation with the letter in the certified envelope-he's got style. I was really scared about the outcome but Aaron got me out of everything. He was extremely attentive, answered the phone whenever I called, and was with me every step of the way. Then when he saw the police report on the spot he spoke in a way that was favorable for me. He's extremely smart and savvy and knows how to defend people. I highly recommend him

Mr. Spolin is known for his advocacy in court. I have seen him bring together disparate facts into one cohesive story that is easy for a jury to understand. His past work as a prosecutor certainly informs and strengthens his current work defending those accused of crimes. I would seek his counsel for any criminal or civil rights case.

I was lucky because Mr. Spolin came up with a number of arguments and legal points that I don't think many other lawyers would have thought of. Thank you for the great job!
