What is Stress? Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. When you sense danger-whether it's real or imagined-the body's defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the "fight-or-flight-or-freeze" reaction, or the stress response.
The stages of mourning and grief are universal and are experienced by people from all walks of life. Mourning occurs in response to an individual's own terminal illness or to the death of a valued being, human or animal. Men are far less likely to seek help than women, and they often delay getting help until there is a crisis. Men are less likely to follow through with treatment recommendations by therapists and psychiatrists (GoodTherapy.org). Help seeking can, in and of itself, lead to psychological distress as men are socialized to suppress emotions and to "need no one."
