$34 for a lunch for two including two Coronas! The food was fantastic! We had the beef burrito, cheese enchiladas, chips and guacamole and a side of sour cream. The chips were freshly fried and warm, so delicious. The guacamole had a little kick to it but not too much. The beef burrito was so flavorful! We will definitely be back for the quality food and amazing price point in Jackson.
My only complaint is it is cold in the restaurant. We noticed all of the heat vents in the ceiling were covered with Saran Wrap. So not sure if the story there but it wouldn't keep us away from a future visit

Who's not rating this at least 4 stars? Ok, 5 may be steep but that's how I roll and their rating should be better.
Things to note:
- the salsa (verde) is noticeably hot and I usually get 4 out of 5 at Thai restaurants. Don't come if you're a wimp.
- portions are huge! Prices seemed steep but you don't normally get 5 enchiladas plus rice and beans and a random side of sour cream just 'cause. Plus, you know, they have to pay rent in Jackson Hole/Teton Village
- They don't have stuff like ground beef red enchiladas (what I was in the mood for) but I was surprisingly thrilled with my green chicken

Best authentic Mexican food we have ever tasted. Tiny place next to Jackson Laundromat so you may be tempted to walk on by, don't. I had shrimp fajitas and my husband had several field different tacos ( beef, chicken and pork). Their flour tortillas are homemade and you can taste the difference. They had a spicy red sauce and my husband liked it so much they gave him a cup to go. Friendly staff and if all the locals go there you know it's a winner.

Just happened to see this restaurant and thought we’d take a chance. The tacos were wonderful but watch out the red sauce is HOT! (but very good). The green sauce was also yummy! The only down-side is it was rather warm in the restaurant and they don’t serve chips and salsa. But other than that I recommend this little place; very good!

We have been coming here for a few years as we love authentic food! This morning was very disappointing when our service was awful, had to get up and ask the cooks for condiments and get more drinks. The waitress couldn't answer any of our questions and they prioritized their to go orders vs dine in. Couldn't believe their bowl of menudo was $17.50 and not even a big portion. Sad to say we won't be returning. $125 for breakfast for 7 and 3 of them were kids!

This gets 4 stars because of the authenticity of the Mexican food. Unfortunately, they do not give you everything on the menu. For example, on 2 separate occasions I ordered a burrito and NEVER got sour cream (not even on the side).
I would HIGHLY recommend that you get this food to go. They are not practicing ANY social distancing in this restaurant. Both times the restaurant was packed wall to wall with people. If you expect your waitstaff to wear a mask, this is not the place for you. There was one waitress (waiting on tables and taking to go orders) that did not wear a mask on both

Solid SoCal good Mexican food. First Mexican food place I've found that can hang with San Diego.
Pork chop torta was outstanding.
Moist & flavorful.
Also tried the tostadas.
Shredded chicken was moist and very tender.
They know how to cook here.
Ambience is meh, but you don't eat ambiance.

Horrible service! Waited over 30 minutes for a burrito! Other people walked in, were seated, and got full plates before I got my food. The only reason I got my order was because I stood up and started standing by the door as a jester. My food wasn't worth the wait either. I could have gotten a better buritto at home for $5 bucks. Next time I'm in town I won't stop here.

Homemade corn tortillas, a truly special treat, and not just a few but plenty. The waitress even asked if I wanted more.
Both red and green hot sauce. Prompt, courteous service and legit atmosphere.. I'm glad to say, " this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Jackson Hole."

This place needs more reviews so here yah go. Hard to find authentic mexican in Jackson with reasonable prices. Jackson loves to price gauge the food industry, so paying for authentic mexican at 5 backs a taco feels like theft. Fortunately this place doesnt do that. Staff seems friendly and family inspired. Food is pretty nice and much more affordable than any other mexican place I can find in Jackson. Prices are still high for the mexican Im used to paying but because they are so competitive, ill take it as a win win for El Metate. Definitely a local spot, and one I will be returning too.

¡La comida aqui es mejor! (The food here is the best). I've traveled all over Mexico, speak Spanish, and I live in Phoenix, therefore, I know Mexican food. Please ignore the ignorant reviewer who referred to this place as "South American." The owners of El Matate are from the Mexican State of Tlaxcala. This is a family-run "hole-in-the-wall" (compliment) with busy times like most legitimate restaurants. Relax, don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the REAL Mexican food!

Were doing some laundry at the laundromat nextdoor and got hungry for lunch so thought we'd check this place out. Wow! Fantastic authentic Mexican food! We got some tacos and a burrito and there was plenty of food to go between two of us. I couldn't finish the burrito it was so big and full of delicious flavor! The burrito comes with guac (awesome) and salsa and filled so full of (chicken, for me), rice, cheese and it's soooo yummy.
Service was great and it wasn't busy when we went in around noon. Go check it out if you're in the area!
