Now local veterinary teams can refer patients online! Our veterinary portal is a simple way to refer patients to our emergency and specialty teams and stay up-to-date on their status. If your pet is experiencing an emergency, come in. If your pet needs care, but it's not severe, contact your primary veterinarian and learn more about our ER experience before you come.

It's not often you find so many board-certified doctors in one place, and all of them are dedicated to helping Oregon's animals, pets and the people who love them. Contact our team for appointments, rechecks, and other specialty veterinary needs. With a suite of resources at their fingertips, like on-site surgeons and a blood bank, our emergency teams are ready for even the most critical of cases.
Services
It's not just the doctorates, specialty accreditation or degrees that set our team apart. It's their devotion to high-quality medicine. To compassionate care. To wildlife treatment. To low-income offerings. To public programs. Meet the hard-working team of veterinarians, specialists and technicians who lead patient care 24/7.
Access (always) is our commitment to being there; being available. Because being open is about more than business hours, but rather, about being open to learning. Open to compassion. Available at all hours - always - for any critical procedure. And whenever support is needed most. Empathy begins before our first interaction.
Our namesake was a lover of animals and an advocate of the human animal bond. We are proud to honor her legacy every day as we treat more animals than ever before in our 48 years. DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital was founded in 1973 by Mr. A.B. Lewis, in cooperation with the Portland Veterinary Medical Association, and in memory of Mr. Lewis' late wife, Dove.
We'll treat 23,000 animals this year, but we don't do it alone! Your partnership on cases and devotion to continued education enhances the level of veterinary care available to animals worldwide. Ours is the largest volunteer-run blood bank in the PacNW, and its here to bolster your supplies and respond quickly in a time of need.
Gifts from donors help eligible low-income families cover some of the costs for their pet's care. A donation today can ensure that an abused animal receives the emergency care and compassion they desperately need and deserve. Not all animals have someone watching out for them, but with the help of gifts like yours, we can care for every stray animal brought through our doors.

Let me start off by saying something that I feel like a lot of people need to hear.
The hard fact is that we all believe our pet is the most important. It is a hard reality to have to wait, for any amount of time, for our pets to be seen because our pet is our baby. We want what’s best for them and we want them taken care of immediately.
DoveLewis is a hospital to animals like a normal ER is to humans. If you’re bringing your pet here, usually it’s because there is something very wrong. They take all the information you give them and determine the most immediate care needed, in order. It

We took my boyfriend and i’s hamster in on 12/29/21 because we noticed he had a major lump on his arm and we wanted to get him some help because he was just a tiny little thing and we loved him so so much. We get in at 11am, a doctor looks at him 10-15 minutes later, and then we’re in the exam room where we’re told we can either try medicine for the inflammation for $30-$45 or we can pay up to $600 for just an X-ray (on top of the $125 physical examination, not including any medicine or surgery that might have to be done)
We choose the medicine because we don’t have that kind of money

Had an emergency with our little puppy. Couldn’t stop the bleeding at home. This was the only clinic that was open during snow day! They took us in pretty fast too despite the lobby being full. The doctor was so sweet and calmed us down let us know that our little puppy was doing good and getting lots of attention. The whole process took about 5 hours. Whole staff is really nice and polite. Don’t wish for anyone to go through any difficulties with their furry family members, but if something does happen this is the place to GO! Thank you everyone for a great care!

We brought our pup in for excessive lethargy, drooling, and dry heaving after she had some mis-adventures in the snow. We had to wait a couple hours for her to be seen, but once they did an initial assessment in the waiting room they rushed her back and made sure that she wasn’t critically ill. The vet who saw her, Josh, explained what he thought could be her issues in a really accessible and clear way, and made sure that she was well taken care of and that all the appropriate tests and x-rays were ordered. We were really really pleased with our experience, despite the lower than normal staffing

The veterinary professionals at Dove Lewis saved my puppy’s life and I will forever be grateful. He was diagnosed with IMHA at six months old and was close to death when I brought him in. He had three blood transfusions and was hospitalized for six days. His level of care was exceptional, as was communication from the doctor. The prognosis for his condition was a grim one, but seven months later he is in remission. Doctors at Dove Lewis have continued since May to monitor, test, and oversee meds and treatment. They have never done an unnecessary procedure and have been transparent throughout

The staff at DoveLewis are incredibly kind, patient, and compassionate. When COVID-19 made it impossible to bring my sick rabbit into her regular veterinarian for care (it was a three week wait for an appointment!), we came into DoveLewis where they took great care of us. Yes - the wait can be long right now - especially if your pet isn't critical. I am so grateful that DoveLewis is open and able to see exotic pets during the pandemic. Thank you for taking such good care of us!

We brought in our 9 week old rabbit because he had been not eating and lethargic for several hours, which is critical for rabbits. We were doing all the necessary care for the situation and decided we needed more diagnostics and took him here. We were given a priority rating and told it would be an hour. 4 hours later we told them the rabbit needed critical care and he was showing signs of further decline and needed to be seen. They took him back behind the door. Another 4 hours and finally a doctor sees him, going on 9 hours without care that we could have given if we had been informed that it

We had our first cardiologist appointment for our little cat at Dove Lewis and they exceeded our expectations. I was nervous about the noise because it is an emergency clinic, but the cardiology department is on a separate floor. Their waiting area was very quiet and calm. The front staff were awesome, they all seemed to be in a good mood. The assistant was attentive and made me feel at ease when she took our girl for her exam. Dr.Reynolds is amazing. She is knowledgeable, personable, and I felt like she really understood my concerns.

Pets become part of a family very quickly! They become our best and truest friends! For this very reason, finding the right hospital when you need one is a huge blessing! Last week we needed one quickly and found DoveLewis!
Farrah went quickly from happy, excited about meal times to a quiet, not able to keep food down pup. It turned out to be very serious with surgery needed that day! The Docs and Staff at DoveLewis were amazing in every way. Our doctors kept us informed by email and phone every day. They did not sugar coat anything but stayed positive and assured us Farrah was getting the best

Monday night our 12 week old Chocolate Lab “Loki” started vomiting every 10 minutes non stop. We thought maybe he swallowed a small part of a stick or something. We called Dove Lewis and was told to bring him in immediately. Upon arriving Aide was so warm and caring. She put us in a private room because he hasn’t went through all of his shots. He was seen right away by a vet technician to make sure that he could at least breathe. Unfortunately we did have to wait another 8 hours before we were seen again. Although it was frustrating we could see and here that this was one of there busiest
