Superstition Animal Hospital
We here at Superstition Animal Hospital believe that a trip here should be a relaxing experience for you and your pet. We want your pets to feel as if they are visiting friends and not the dreaded doctor. Through low stress handling and minimal restraint, your pet can be more relaxed and happy - this is our goal while still maintaining quality and affordable veterinary care for your pets.

If your pet tends to be very nervous in new situations or at the doctor, let us know when you schedule the appointment. We will take the time to help work through any anxiety your pet may experience. If you haven't been here before, we encourage you to bring your pet by to say hello and get a treat.
Services
Dr. Heffelman is an Arizona native and graduated from Colorado State University's Veterinary Medicine program in 2004. He returned to Arizona in 2009 where he was an associate veterinarian in other practices before fulfilling his dream of practice ownership in 2016. He looks forward to continuing to provide excellent care to the clients and patients of Superstition Animal Hospital.
Dental health is a very important aspect of our pets overall health. Dental disease can affect appetite and quality of life for our furry friends as it can be extremely painful. It is also a source of bacterial infection throughout the body. As our pets dental disease gets worse we can see them become less playful because they don't want to put anything in their mouths.
Allergies in animals are very common and can be very frustrating to treat. In dogs and cats, allergies frequently cause skin disease rather than the "hay fever" symptoms humans get. Symptoms to look for in your pet would include ear infections, rashes, and itching. It is often difficult to determine if recurrent symptoms could be due to either a food allergy or an environmental allergy or sometimes even both.
While vaccines are important, the most important part or your pet's healthcare is the yearly exam. Our pets age faster than we do and small problems can become big problems quickly. At the yearly exam we can identify any concerns and make plans to correct them if needed. It is important to evaluate all body systems at least yearly for most pets and bi-annually for our geriatric patients.
Diagnostic testing may be an important component to your pets health for disease management and prevention, whether they are ill or even healthy. The doctor can only identify so much with a physical exam. Lab testing can tell us a lot of information that the doctor may not be able to identify without testing.

Our poor kitty passed away on Saturday and we wanted to get him cremated so we could keep him with us. The vet tech that came out to us to get him was very caring and compassionate. She allowed us to take our time in saying going bye and handling our emotions. The pricing was affordable as well. It’s always hard to have to say goodbye to a pet especially when it’s so unexpected and they understood that. I felt like they really cared from the moment I called and explained the situation, all the up until they took him inside. We will return for check ups for our other kitty and our terroir. I

Won't go back here again. Our puppy has a urination problem.... Probably a UTI. First $50 for the office visit for the vet and nurse to take a temperature and pet the dog. It's nice that they can spend 2 min discussing how they need to get a urin sample to do labs before diagnosing the problem. The nurse came back with a charge sheet for $50 for the labs and $30 to board the animal until they can get one...... keep in mind that doesn't cover the cost of medication. We have 3 dogs, 1 lab which is a service dog (not an emotional support animal) and 2 bloodhounds. There are plenty of

Just took my dog there for an ear infection.Other clinics could get us in between 7 and 14 days ,but they got us in same day ,at regular price which was only fraction of what other clinic would charge for same day "emergency " visit.
Everybody there was very nice ,friendly and fast .The cost of treatment was very fair.Would definitely recommend to everyone !

Best veterinarian in my opinion and great staff. They go above and beyond. My pets, never excited about vet visits, they also aren't timid and know they get calm, quality people around them no matter the reason for the appointment.

We live in MN and winter here and never needed a vet in AZ, but our dear Marley had a couple issues that needed attention. We were able to get an appointment and hour after calling and everyone here was wonderful!! Marley is a large dog and the vet got down on the floor to his level and was great with him!! And they are great with calling and checking in on Marley too!!! Wonderful bunch of people!!! They care!!!!! Thanks so much, Linda, and Marley 💜❤️

Is doing a great job of treating my puppy's pneumonia. Some vets talk to you like you are stupid, but he showed me everything and talked to me like we were a team making the decision together. I really appreciate that. Will be switching over all of our dogs here.

This animal hospital is excellent. The staff and Dr Heffelman are so kind and caring. My fur baby trinity loved the doctor and the assistant. The prescribed medication for her ear infection and her itchiness. We will be back in two weeks for her follow up. I recommend Superstition Animal Hospital you won't be disappointed.

NEGATIVE doctors attitude. Was there in May. Found another doctor for my sweet dog and her injury. She is healing promptly and now has a compassionate doctor and staff.

Small bit a full service vet minus specialties (cardiology, oncology, dermatology etc.) Overall a decent place to come to, not very flexible on same day appointments all the time but still worth it's weight in gold for care.

Dr. Dickens and her staff are caring and compassionate. I've been going here for 7 years and had to have a cat and dog put to sleep. There was never any pressure for unneccessary testing and their pricing is very reasonable. They get you in really quick and have same day appointments too.

I have been to Dr. Dickens for many many years (since 2004). I have always been VERY happy with the service I've received here. They are friendly, they care about the animals and are compassionate. They've always honored my UPC discount and have been generous in doing so. Their prices ARE very reasonable- believe me, I've called and compared prices with other vets, and have always come here. I have 4 dogs (an eskie poo and yorkies) and 2 cats. They remind you via mail when it's time for shots and check ups. They are thorough and professional!

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Dickens for over 10 years and she is the most down to earth person you will ever meet. The animals well being comes first and in emergency situations her knowledge and command presence keeps the owner and animal calm. On top off all that her prices are very, very reasonable.

This place was horrible. Unfortunately my regular vet was on vacation and I was had to take my dog here. I talked to the receptionist when I scheduled the appt and she ok'd me using my upc discount. After my dog was seen I overheard the vet complaining about me using the discount. She was very unfriendly and spent maybe two minutes with my dog. She did not say much about the deep wound on his neck except to buy a collar so he does not scratch it... please do not take your pets here. Go somewhere else.
