Maybe you have experienced a trauma and find that memories of it plague you, or you find yourself thrown off balance by what seems like small events. Maybe you have had a lot of therapy and have a better understanding why you feel bad, but you still feel bad. Although it may feel like everyone else has it all figured out, many successful people struggle with negative thoughts, self-criticism, shame and anxiety.
And many of these people silently struggle to cope after a traumatic experience has shaken their very sense of self. When you have an obvious trauma like a car accident or assault, it may be clear why you're jolted, but other experiences can cause trauma too. If your family was dysfunctional or just very stressed, it can be hard to recognize the impact that has had because what happened was normal in your home.

Maybe you had a lot of therapy and lost hope that you will ever feel okay. You've told your story over and over and you understand why you feel the way you do, but you still feel bad. You might be flooded with bad memories you can't shake, feel on edge all the time or have a hard time sleeping. Some people find themselves haunted by memories of a single incident trauma that left them feeling intensely frightened and unsafe.
We become traumatized when our nervous systems are overwhelmed and the body/mind is unable to process an experience. A combination of factors such as stress, life experiences, personality, neurology and genetics impact how we respond. One person can emerge from an event upset but intact, while another can be shaken to his or her depths.
Are you struggling with heightened stress, anxiety, worry and panic? It might be that you've been managing anxiety well on your own for a while, but the tools, skills and resources that helped pre-pandemic are no longer available or working. Or perhaps you're experiencing anxiety and/or panic for the first time and feel agitated, aroused, frightened and powerless.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing(EMDR) therapy is a highly effective trauma treatment. This evidence-based therapy is the most researched of trauma therapies and is grounded in neuroscience. EMDR can treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other issues of trauma. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy helps the mind heal from psychological trauma much like the body heals from physical trauma.
Somatic therapies are highly effective and proven body-centered approach to healing stress disorders and trauma. Because trauma is held in the body as well as the mind, talking is not enough. By helping the nervous system regulate itself and for you to feel safe, somatic therapy allows you to slowly release trauma from your body and tap into your innate capacity to heal and become resilient.
