Specifically Dr. Ming Jer (Ted) Chou is the heart and soul of Canaan Dental. He has been practicing dentistry for over 30 years and has become a well-known figure in the community. Before coming to the United States, Dr. Chou graduated from Taipei Medical University in 1979. In addition afterwards, was a clinical and classroom instruction for Yan Min University of Dentistry.
Dental Assistant Sophia Liao graduated from Taipei Medical University School of Dentistry in Taiwan before marrying Dr. Ming Jer Chou. Sophia Liao is the hub of the office, working both the front desk, and assisting the doctors when needed. This lovely mother of 3 (and excellent chef) will be the friendly face that greets you upon arrival at Canaan Dental office.
Yes we accept all PPO services from all the common providers (Delta Dental, Aetna, Met life, Blue cross Blue shield, United Healthcare, and many more) that allow you to seek a out of network provider. When you obtain your insurance make sure you ask your insurance provider whether or not you have an option to see any dentist you would like or if you are limited to their providers.

My sons doctor is Dr.Olivia Yue. She is super great both professionally and as a human being. The office also makes you feel safe and comfortable as they're all very nice, treating you, receiving you with smiles, etc.
Dr.Yue has been very patient with me and my family and enjoy/trust having her as our sons Doctor.

I was referred to Canaan Dental by my long-time dentist, who retired in 2020.
I found both Dr. Ted Chu and Dr. Shane Chou are very experienced and friendly. They always put the patient's interest in mind.
The staffs are very friendly, and they always do their best to accommodate the last-minute appointment request due to unexpected situations. It's extremely helpful from our busy schedule.
And the clinic is very bright and clean, which does make me feel safe and comfortable to visit during the pandemic.

Most thorough teeth cleaning I've gotten in a while. Dr. Shane was super patient and took the time to explain to me the X-Ray footage of my teeth, where possible cavity could occur, and how I can best prevent it. I felt very comfortable being treated there as you know dental service is almost never comfortable. Highly recommended!!!

There's always a bit of apprehension when trying out a new dentist but by the end of my first visit, I was confident in my decision to set up bi-annual checkups! Dr. Shane Chou was thorough and patient in his process. He also took his time to explain the pros and cons of different options without pushing any particular path aside from what he believes is most in line with what I want to have accomplished.
Bonus pro tip from him: if you are using an electric toothbrush, don't apply more effort/pressure than just to move it across your teeth.

I have gone a few times since March and the office has done a great job with COVID procedures. All pre check-in forms are contactless, they check your temperature, and the spaces are kept very clean. Office staff is accommodating and friendly as well. I've been treated by both dentists in this office for several years now and their expertise and advice are top-notch.

I was hesitant to go to dental this year due to COVID. But at the end of 2020 I decided to go in person and give my teeth a chance to be healthier. Canaan Detal offers excellent service including timely and responsive follow up, strict precautions like survey, sanitizer, mask, temperature taken are all essential to current situation, and the most importantly detailed inspection and perfect filling.

Our family has been seeing both Dr. Chou and his son about 10 years! They seemed never aged! But this isn't the point, the point is they updated the clinical to match the trending well. For example, during the pandemic, they only see ONE person at one time! We didn't see anyone else in the lobby anymore. I felt very safe.

Due to a fear of going to the dentist from past experiences & sheer laziness, I haven't gone to the dentist in a long time. While on the hunt for a new dentist, a friend recommended Canaan Dental and I had a great experience! Dr. Shane Chou was very friendly and reassuring, and staff was a awesome as well! I have moved to the Bay area 2 years ago and been searching for a GOOD dentist. Canaan Dental is the 3rd dental office I tried. After my visit today, I can say I am done searching! Dr. Chou is patience, gentle and detailed. The check in process is smooth with very good COVID protocol. 5 stars and highly recommended.
