Juan Flores started out as a prep cook working in Greek and Italian restaurants for 15 years in New York City before coming to Connecticut. In 2004, Juan worked 2 jobs to support his family. He worked for Occum Pizza and Joy's Country Skillet. In 2008, he became the full time chef for Joy's Country Skillet.
In 2010, Juan was given an opportunity to take over and purchase the country skillet and re-branded to Joy's Family Restaurant serving authentic Mexican cuisine. The restaurant is currently operated by Juan himself, his wife, 3 daughters, 2 sons and of 2 grandsons. Joy's Family Restaurant has earned the reputation by being voted the BEST BREAKFAST in Norwich, CT for several years.

Services
Choice of Bacon, Ham, or sausage Scrambled eggs with home fries, Cilantro, cheddar cheese. Fruit salad on the side. Two poached eggs served on a toasted English Muffin topped with Canadian bacon, Hollandaise sauce. Scrambled eggs, peppers, onions, mushrooms, & tomato. Served over fried potatoes, heated in a casserole and topped with cheese served with hot corn muffin.

The waitress was terrific. Food was absolutely wonderful. I had something I had never had and couldn't pronounce. Whatever it is called it was a huge portion and really good! The outside of the place is not very modern and inside it's like not too ritzy. But the food, service and atmosphere are all great. I think this menu is the most complete I have seen in CT. Lots of Mexican food I didn't know about and am quickly coming to love. It is a great place and I wish them the very best in their business, despite covid. Happy new year!

We tried Joy's for the first time today on a whim. We will definitely be coming back! The staff was great and the food was AMAZING! Truly some of the best Mexican food I've ever had and I spent the first 22 years of my life living in Southern Arizona near the Mexican border, so I've had good Mexican food. Joy's was top notch! The chips were fresh and hot. The burrito I had was so good. My husband adored his chimichangas. And don't even get me started on the homemade tamales! I've never tasted one so good! I'm sure the server thought we were total weirdos when we kept telling her how delicious everything

My experience having breakfast at Joy's restaurant this morning was very enjoyable and positive.
The menu includes a lot of options for Mexican style meals which I very much enjoy. I found a nice variety of breakfast options on the menu and finally settled on the Mexican omelet. I also ordered a cup of coffee and a small orange juice. The omelet came with among other things, jalapenos and avocado both of which I love. It was a good size portion and very nicely cooked. I would have loved to try the food but alas that wasn't meant to be. My husband and I wanted to leave the casino for some breakfast and found Joy's. It was busy but had several empty tables and we were seated promptly. After waiting for a while and noticing the server taking orders from two other parties that came in after us we decided to leave. I completely understand being short staffed and we were prepared to wait a bit for our food but not being passed over. We came back to the casino and had a lovely breakfast there.

I stopped in based on a recommendation when traveling thru the area. I had my doubts because of the area, Norwich, isn't exactly known for much anything of good value. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was really authentic Mexican and flavor was great. The atmosphere nice and the staff very friendly and pleasant. This is probably the only restaurant I'd visit again in Norwich.
