Assessments typically involve an initial music therapy session, interviews with the client, family, and members of the interdisciplinary treatment team, and reading client history.

Music therapists assess emotional well-being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills through musical responses; design music sessions for individuals and groups based on client needs using music improvisation, receptive music listening, song writing, lyric discussion, music and imagery, music performance, and learning through music; participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, ongoing evaluation, and follow up.
Originally from the Austin area, Rebecca Faulkner is a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) who received her bachelor's degree in music therapy from the University of Kansas in 2012. Engaging in online social networks such as Facebook, allow me to share the latest news with clients and those interested in music therapy, as well as providing me with an opportunity to participate in conversations with music therapists from across the globe! Aside from the online community, I also frequently speak in public: at conferences, meetings, schools, and other forums.
