The dine in service at TJ's was terrible at our last visit.
The waitress wasn't really busy and not very good serving our order. We ordered 2 cups of soup. She served mine and forgot my spouse's.
The "hot" sandwiches took way too long to be made and served. When they finally arrived they were cold including the fries. We could see the kitchen help milling around back and forth while we waited for our order wondering why it took so long to make two basic sandwiches. The dining room not very busy.
The old owners of TJ's would not have tolerated that kind of poor service out of the wait staff.

We are loyal customers, frequently ordering take out from this restaurant a few times a week. Recently we decided to eat indoors at the restaurant and had a terrible experience. The service was fine but the flies were unbearable. There were four of us and we were constantly swatting flies and gnats off of our food and always from our faces/ table. It was absolutely disgusting. I understand the dilemma with the air conditioning vs having the doors open but the amount of flies on our food was outrageous. We didnât want to say anything while we were there and embarrass our server or the restaurant

Tired, hungry and looking for place to eat outside to enjoy break in the heat - where can a vegetarian in Old Saybrook go?? First time at TJ's and wow, so glad we stopped. Veg eggplant sandwich the best eggplant on ciabbata I have had and husband's veg wrap also 2 thumbs up. We could have had any number of vegetarian pizza selections (next time). Outdoor seating streetside under umbrellas was cool and private. Quick and delish - and the best, friendliest service around (thanks, Karen!).

I love this place. My friend and I order everything we want and have leftovers all week. We had a large pizza with eggplant. Ravolie and spagettie with meatbals. The Italian dishes and the pizza, especially the eggplant pizza are delicious. It's always busy when we go but the wait is short and worth it. Not sure about reservations but my guess is no. Not sure about alcohol served. Clean, staff pleasant and fast. Parking lot is small but we never have a problem.
