In 2011, WV native Jon Magee established Smoke on the Water. Jon is an avid trout fisherman who has a fun loving laid back style. His passion for fishing, river life, beautiful WV scenery, and mouth watering cuisine were inspirations he wanted to share so Smoke on the Water was born. Jon and wife Denise have a unique style and have created a dining experience unsurpassed, and is something that should be experienced by all.

Been here twice. First time was great--good food, service, and atmosphere. Not so on our second trip! Food was lousy, although the service and atmosphere were still good. One of us had the brisket sandwich and had to cut half of it out because it was gristle. One of us had salmon salad which was average. Prices are higher than average, and not justified for the food quality.

Atmosphere was good, restroom was clean, service staff was okay. Over priced food and it wasn't good...The smoked shrimp that so many raved about I could not eat. It had no flavor of shrimp, just heavy smoke and the crab cakes had no flavor at all...the mac&cheese side was good...Sorry guys, we won't be returning.

The restaurant is large, with both in and outside seating and has a great vibe. There were a couple of large parties so we ate outside, which despite being late October was perfect.
The 4 of us split an order of Burnt Ends appetizer which clearly the best item on the menu. Except for the cost, I could have made a meal on these alone

Gave this restaurant a second chance but I don't know why so Shame on us. The food here is poor, this isn't bbq at all it's broiled food with a bunch of sugary sauces for you to flavor with no flavor,
We have been here twice and unfortunately had the same server I think Jenn which she is just miserable and rude. Clearly doesn't want to be there. Save your money and go elsewhere, also the disgusting patio is full of flies!

This is the hardest review I've ever had to write. I'm from the area and recently came back to visit. I was very happy to see a new bbq joint. Sat on the BEAUTIFUL back deck.
Smoking chicken wings is not easy. I've been trying in my backyard for more than 5 years. I've thrown in the towel and now use the god forsaken air fryer. Smoke on the Waters wings remind me a lot of my early efforts. Rubbery, wet, mushy. Disgusting. I cut them a lot of slack because smoked wings are so hard, but the wings also showed signs of creosote. They're not getting enough combustion on their

Updating my attempt to reach out to the restaurant and find out what happened this past Sunday. They got back to me four days after my message. I was told they can only seat 10 per 50% occupancy guidelines due to Covid. Now I can't confirm if all ten tables were occupied but I do know they have a large indoor and outdoor area and the parking lot was not very full. But again I cannot confirm that. Also if that was the reason why wouldn't the hostess tell us that and or check to see if anyone was close to leaving. Also, why not offer takeout as a option? I'm not buying it. I guess

What an unexpected and pleasant surprise to find Smoke on the Water BBQ. We had the absolute tastiest food around. The shrimp and crab dip is the best I've ever had. We had never had smoked shrimp before and I have to say they are awesome!
I had the veggie fried green tomato sandwich and my husband had the Magoo burger. Our sandwiches were big, tasty and very satisfying.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very laid back and welcoming. The restaurant is super clean and the staff is super friendly. You can eat in the restaurant or outside on the deck. This is a must stop restaurant you will not

The other reviews say it all. I found the hostess to be a little rude. They sat us outside in the fading light of the day. the temperature very quickly dropped to point we were all shivering. They had heaters on the deck but every single one was out of propane. We asked to be moved inside but were told we couldn't. Our food arrived cold. I had the brisket which was hugely disappointing. It was so overcooked that is was as tough as leather. The credit card surcharge is insult to injury. We were so excited to try this place out. Don't be like us. There are so many amazing places

Of all the restaurants I researched for our trip to Elkins, I was most excited about this one. We ate here on the last night and it didn't get close to any of our other meals. Though our waiter was nice, but the environment was not as friendly as we had experienced in Elkins. We had ribs, wings, chicken, and crab cakes. The crab cakes were ok. They needed more seasoning. The chicken was dry. The sauces are pretty basic. The ribs saved the day! They were so tender and juicy with the perfect amount of crust. I would go back for the ribs but definitely on a day when we could sit outside.

We were greeted nicely and ushered to an outdoor table - which we requested. However, it was a table for eight and was a bit awkward.
Our server was awful. Snarky and abrupt from the moment we sat down. She even argued with my friend that the mystery stuff floating around the beer was acceptable when he said that he 1) didn't like the flavor, and 2) that there was stuff floating around. She eventually got him a different beer.

We have ate here regularly when we were in the area since it has opened, when the restaurant opened up the food was really good, over time the food quality has went down hill, we stopped in this evening probably for the last time, 8-22-20, my wife got the chicken which was cold, my ribs were chard, the only flavor you could really taste was the over cooked chard ribs with the rub on them, I was able to eat about half of the full rack of ribs after picking thru the burnt piece of meet, when the waitress finally came around we asked to speak to the manage which she replied was her, she said she couldn

Smoke on the Water BBQ is excellent!! As a Kansas City Native and BBQ business owner, we are always looking for a good BBQ joint to visit when traveling. In West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia we have not found a BBQ Restaurant that meets our expectations when it comes to BBQ. I can honestly say that not only did the food meet our expectations BUT, it exceeded them! My husband smokes the best meat I have ever had and Smoke on the Water is right there with his BBQ. We started out with our normal burnt ends and Smoke Trout Dip as appetizers. The burnt ends were some of the best we have EVER had

This is arguably one of the best restaurants in the Elkins area. The food was good and our group had the brisket, smoked shrimp (which comes on a fajita, but you can order it separate too!), trout spread, ribs, and especially the wings. As far as smoked BBQ is concerned, it was done well! The local beers available on draught were excellent - from Elkin's own Big Timber.
The reason I only gave it 3 out of five stars is twofold:
1. The staff was not especially friendly. We waited a while to be greeted when we walked through the door and the restaurant was not busy. Our waitress was polite

I love good bbq and was hoping to find it here. I ordered burnt ends for an appetizer. I'm pretty sure they were microwaved. They reminded me of Salisbury steak tv dinner.
For my meal I ordered what the waitress recommended. Didn't even eat it. It was super soggy. Like mush. Gross.
Service was terrible. No drink refills. I could go on, but you get the point.
