Rising Light Counseling
My name is Bethsy and I am a bilingual (English / Spanish) marriage and family therapist who is deeply committed to the well-being of my clients. I believe that we are here to achieve a purpose in our lives, and often times, things happen that get in the way of our mission. Therapy is a place to grow and heal from those circumstances that do not allow us to live up to our true potential.

Contact me today to see how I can help.
Services
I am a bilingual (English / Spanish) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Benedictine University. My 20+ years of clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents and adults within the education, agency and private practice settings.

I created Rising Light Counseling with a vision to provide caring counseling and psychotherapy services for children, individuals, couples and families experiencing challenges with neurodevelopment conditions (e.g., autism / ASD, ADHD), anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and abuse.I believe therapy is a place to grow and to heal from circumstances in our lives that do not allow us to live up to our true potential.
We provide Telehealth counseling and psychotherapy services to children (3 and older), teens, and adults. Our client-centered approach starts by providing a comfortable environment where clients can feel at ease.

In working with children and their families, we utilize play therapy and other research based methods to build the necessary skills that allows them to cope and overcome their challenges with ADHD, ASD, Anxiety, Depression, Bullying or Trauma. With our adult clients, we build a strong therapeutic bond that allows them to understand themselves and their circumstances better.
When parents initially receive a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the experience can be very impactful on the family. The diagnosis itself can have a multitude of ramifications; It can have an effect on the way parents feel about themselves, how they feel about their child's future, and in many cases parents are unsure what the necessary steps are to ensure that their child receives the best possible treatment.
Anyone can experience feelings of sadness from time to time. It is normal to feel sad when we experience a loss in our life (employment, family member or friend), when we experience conflicts in our relationships, even when we are adjusting to a change in our life. Being human is filled with complexities of mind, body and spirit.
Anxiety and stress are common experiences in today's fast paced world. In our modern age, we are exposed to a great deal of stressors that can lead us feeling worried, stressed, and fearful. Everyone one of us can experience stressful circumstances that can lead us to live our lives as if we are "on edge".

Do not go here. Whoever they have working at the front desk was very rude when we called to reschedule an appointment. I don’t usually post bad reviews but this really ticked me off.

Lynnette is probably the best therapist I've had (I've had several--and as a therapist myself), I only hope to one day be for my clients what she was for me during my time seeing her. Her presence is calming and her compassion is evident. I highly recommend her. Thank you for all you've done for me, Lynnette.

I can't say enough about Dr. Mark and Lynnette Shadoan at Light Counseling. Their expertise in their field coupled with the understanding, compassion and heartfelt desire to see individuals grow and overcome their circumstances is exemplary. We have referred many clients to them for help with personal struggles, whether it be relationship-oriented or addictive behaviors, and have used their services professionally to help provide direction in our educational training as a business. We have had wonderful feedback from our clients and their experiences, and will continue to utilize their services

I highly recommend Lynnette! I started seeing her my sophomore year of high school. Lynnette truly helped me through some of the darkest times in my life and I will forever be grateful. Due to marrying my husband, whose job has us moving, I had to stop seeing her about 5 years ago. I still use the things she taught me in my marriage and now as a mom. Thank you Lynnette for all the tools you taught me and for being my safe space.

Very busy. Inadequate staffing. At a time when you need counseling to get you through a crisis, you should not be made to feel as if you are insignificant and unimportant. I had to wait ten days to get my daughter in to see a counselor. They forgot about us in the waiting room, therefore delaying our appointment by fifteen minutes. We were escorted into a make shift office barely big enough to accommodate a desk and two chairs. They scheduled our next four appointments in pencil and told us they'd get back to us the next day once they confirmed with the counselor's wife that the dates were ok.
