Portofino a family owned and operated Italian restaurant established in 1970 offering the finest in cuisine and atmosphere. The Portofino Restaurant was opened in 1970 by Chef Sergio Micheli alone with his father Adelmo. They brought to Crystal City, for the first time, Fine Northern Italian Cuisine.

Through the next three decades, Sergio and his wife Pilar welcomed thousands and thousands of guests to their award-winning restaurant. In 1993, three generations of Micheli chefs joined forces as their son Richard, a graduate of the famed Culinary Institute of America, began his work at the Portofino.
Services
Portofino is a fashionable resort town crawling with celebrities. Both have very picturesque harbors, great seafood and a relaxing ambiance. Travel guru Rick Steves says that the trail between the two towns is one of the favorites of hikers. The distance is only about 3 miles, or 5 kilometers. Portofino cannot be reached by train, so train travelers disembark at Santa Margherita Ligure.

Food was excellent. Great attention to detail. You can tell that they care about their customers. I really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. Will definitely dine again when we are in the area.

One of our family's favorite Italian restaurants. Julio was very attentive and Rochard is a phenomenal chef. I cannot wait to go back.

We went to this restaurant yesterday and it was a disappointment. I aet a spaghetti with mashroom and shrimps. No flavors. No juice. No butter. I am sad because I lost my time and money.

Salads were amazing, but then they seemed to forget about out main course. It was about 30 minutes after clearing our salads (possibly after the owner/manager heard us complaining) that they brought our entrées. My medium well medallions were medium rare at best. I sent them back and the whole meal was returned meat well done, veggies soggy, and the sauce soupy. Flavor was ok, mainly thanks to the gorgonzola. Other dish was just ok.. Waiter was seen standing near by at several points throughout the evening and never checked on us. No offers to comp drinks or dessert. Nothing. Our first visit,

Came here for Restaurant Week last night. It's a very cute, cozy Italian restaurant with friendly staff and good food. Definitely want to come back and try their other menu items. The polenta fries with gorgonzola cream sauce was my favorite.

When I was very young I worked in an upscale restaurant that had a maitre'd who wore a tux every night and had very high standards to which he help us all to. One in of his numerous cliches was "dining is not a meal, it is an event" not to hurry through but to be experience he would go on saying.
Well when you go to Portofino be ready to have an experience and for god's sake chill out, relax and enjoy "The Event"....the food was exceptional and the staff, including the self proclaimed owner were very gracious and professional.
The exterior of the building hides the charm of the interior. Looking

Delightful restaurant! Wonderful service, yummy food. Tonno Puttanesca was excellent. Our server was very attentive, playful and helpful. The owner stopped by our place to say hello! Would go back there for dinner in a heartbeat whenever we’re in Crystal City again. Oh, and bottles of wine are half price if you order before 6 pm!! ;))

Great food and a very nice restaurant! The calamari was cooked well and not the overly battered stuff I'm used to getting. I elected to get the marinara sauce instead if the special sauce and that was very good. The Portofino martini was very made well and I would definitely order it again. I ordered the recommended pesto pasta with shrimp and pine nuts. It was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed the meal and the service was great. In addition, the the restaurant itself was nice and the retro tunes were pretty cool. They have their own parking lot in the back and follow all of the pandemic precautions
