Doherty Funeral Homes has been serving the funeral needs of families in the Wilmington area for over 100 years. Charlene later went on to attend cosmetology school and worked as a hair dresser for many years before becoming the food service program director. He was a graduate of Salesianum High School in 1961. He served in the Delaware National Guard and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. Rich started as a draftsman at Whiteside, Moeckel and Carbonell, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy.

The funeral business is changing and the methods of serving families are changing dramatically. I have had to make solid long term decisions so the families that relied upon me and my father before me, can know they are going to be well served in the future, John said. I feel very strongly about sharing the negative experience I had at Doughtery Funeral Home last week. My grandfather, with whom my parents lived and cared for the last 10 years, passed away last week. He was 98 years old. While it was a very difficult time, you would assume services like a funeral home would be the most compassionate and helpful in these situations.

We had over 30 immediate family members fly in within the same week of his death from all over the country to attend the services. The viewing was Wednesday night and I had a babysitter for my 1- and 3-year-old children so I did not
