First, it must be stated that the food is quite good and that the service is excellent. Honestly, the Horse Radish offers some of the best cuisine in the area. That said, visiting the establishment is akin to visiting the greater Yamhill-Carlton area. The scenery is pretty, the wine (house brand, Marshall Davis) exceeds expectations, and the folks are friendly. There is, however, an overt disregard for science and reason. A recent visit showcased the staff removing masks at 5:30, which seemed like a move designed to coincide with the likelihood of OHSA inspectors clocking off for the day. All staff

Having seen this place for years, we were looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The ambiance was weak - very sparse and cold feeling. Hard to hear each other (and I'm not old!) One person in our party was vegan and that was definitely a mistake. The brie appetizer was the smallest portion of cheese I have ever seen. The cookie dessert definitely needed ice cream, not whip cream. It was just not what I had hoped and expected.

The food was fine but NONE of the staff had a mask on despite a sign on the door stating that Oregon required masks inside. This was the only place we entered in our 3 day visit that flaunted masking rules, especially concerning and disrespectful at a time when a surge in cases is happening. Not sure if this is a political stance or mere selfishnes, but beware. We won't go back.

We were shocked to see no one working here had on a mask, with a state mask mandate, they are risking spreading Covid! We walked out when we saw this, enjoy their food but hate they aren't following guidelines!

Love the food and atmosphere, but the staff aren't following the guidelines and wearing masks. It makes me wonder what guidelines they aren't follow in the kitchen. If you can't do the bare minimum, then I doubt the food is cleaned properly. It's extremely disappointing to see the staff put the patron's health at risk. Shame on them. We won't return.

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times and have enjoyed their lunch menu, however, I had a horrible experience last night. The food was horribly bland, I got the chicken parm, and felt as if I was chewing cardboard almost, there was no flavor. The chicken and pasta was cooked well, no shame in that. However, there was no flavor, I couldn’t push down more than a bite. (Considering the dish was $26 I was expecting MUCH more flavor wise) I was also made the center of attention by my host while eating. They seated a lovely couple that seemed quite nice next to my mother and I and then proceeded

Made a reservation here for my wifes birthday. The staff was amazing and very friendly. We were seated and ordered drinks an appetizer and our dinners. We both ordered the steaks. Our drinks and appetizers were brought out quickly and were great. I was happy with the decision to bring the wife here. But that was short lived. As the table across from us got louder and louder and our main meals still not brought out, ordered almost an hour ago. I started apologizing to the wife for bringing her here. We were about to just ask for our bill and leave but then an hour after ordering, out meals

Not on menu, but excellent gluten free bread can be substituted on sandwiches. Very accommodating staff. Best french fries I've had in long time, piping hot, crispy outside fluffy inside.

Came here on vacation and was seated on a Saturday night without a reservation which was appreciated. Came for live music which was OK and ordered the cheese plate which had more meat than cheese so was a little disappointed by that. The highlight was the wines, both of the Pinot noir's I tried were very good, and the space was large with both a lot of indoor tables and a small outdoor patio that is dog friendly.

Smoked mozzarella cheese sticks, a Carlton sandwich, and fries. So many tempting specials off menu today, but I had to try the classic. Beautiful place, great service, delicious food, don't miss this place!

Went on a Sunday and was only allowed to order food on the brunch menu- nothing else. Not kid friendly for food at all. Waitress brought us our food and never asked to refill drinks or came back to check on us. Had a curly hair in our appetizer but since we never got checked on or could get anyone's attention, couldn't get anything else to eat. Had to bring it up to the register and ask for our bill. Will never go back.

We have been here twice in the last 3 months and both times we have been very happy with both the food and the service and the Horse Radish.

On our most recent visit on Easter Sunday, we went for brunch and sat outside on their patio. I got the eggs Benedict (substituted tomato for ham) and my husband for the roast beef sandwich with fries. Both our dishes came out quickly and they were both delicious. The Hollandaise sauce was refreshingly light, their side salad is amazing (cranberries, goat cheese, so yumm), and the fries were pretty good as well. Overall, the food was top notch.

Next time

So unhappy to hear that you all are participating in flipping your finger to our Covid orders. I heard you were, along with other restaurants in Carlton, allowing indoor dining. I honestly didn't believe it at first, so I made a drive out to Carlton - sure enough, I saw guests sitting inside dining. I had more respect for you and thought you would be of the restaurant owners playing by the rules. The very challenging and draining orders, but the orders we have at the moment to stop the spread. I haven't personally been out to eat for some time, but I have ordered several take out orders

We came through Willamette Valley like everyone else to visit some vineyards in town. We had a gap for lunch so we opted to look around and see what the local town had to offer. Several online sites had recommended The Horse Radish which was accompanied by glowing reviews from locals and visitors alike. It's a sad thing to say but we have only sat in one other restaurant since January until this moment. While there are many steps to take before the restaurant industry came come back online, I am hopeful that continued support like a brief lunch or takeaway will help these businesses stay afloat

Needed some food in the belly for the wine tasting to carry on, this place delivered.

I had the 1/2 ham sandwich, sounds basic right? Well it's not! Real meaty delicious ham with melted cheese AND fig jam on ciabatta with 1/2 salad and a generous pour of rosé ;)
He had the 1/2 Carlton sandwich, they were out of turkey so they substituted with avocado there was a little disappointment but no complaints and 1/2 tomato soup.

Great sandwiches, soups, salads at a good price. 16oz French press coffee $4. Very good service. Lunch is busy, you can expect to wait 15-20 mins. I'd say the sandwiches are equal in size to a Subway 12" - just WAY better. It's easy to find in Main street. It's also easy to access and exit front and back. Additional parking in back. Rear entrance, and patio (very nice) are not fully handicapped accessible; the rest of the place is.
If you found this post to be helpful please consider a thumbs-up.

THE best brunch I've had in a long time, I've been burned a lot lately trying places in Salem so I was happy to not be disappointed for once! The most delicious breakfast potatoes and eggs Benedict of my life, everything made from scratch and locally sourced when possible too which I love. Also their bacon was the bomb! Can't wait to come back for dinner

Wonderful lunch after a morning spent bopping around wine country! And as someone who wasn't drinking, I was particularly looking forward to my next meal. We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess and given menus to look over. Their lunch lineup is basically the picnic fare of my dreams. Hearty sandwiches, salads, chips & dips, charcuterie plates, hummus - all looked fabulous. My husband, friend and I shared the oh-so-decadent baked brie accompanied by fig jam, hazelnuts, and cranberries.

Next up, I opted for an Italian combo with a side salad and both were absolutely excellent

Great food, cute atmosphere, but the food was so slow. We came after lunch rush on Sunday afternoon--around 1pm. We started off with the charcuterie board, which took 10 minutes. We then ordered our sandwiches which took nearly 20 minuted to arrive! The server also told me the Mamas Peppers (which are pickled by the way!) were a 6/10 spicy, but I'd put them as "a slight kick" or like a 2/10. If you have time for a lunch sandwich I'd visit, but if you're in a rush then skip it.

If I mentioned slow service anywhere else it would be a bad thing. Here the correct term would be personalized service. Yeah it's slow, but this place is so charming, you want it slow.

To look at the beautiful cheeses on the rack and the wine is a great appeal. You fall in love, you wanna eat everything. The pastrami sandwich is to die for, as everything is from the area and is fresh.

The wines locally made along with the Beer. The staff is super friendly, so I suggest sit back enjoy the day, as you won't regret it.
