Derrick, a licensed hairstylist since 1994, opened Layers Hair Salon in 2000 with the vision to provide a happy, productive and successful environment for employees and customers alike. Customer service and satisfaction are top priorities. He has participated in the Redken International Hair Symposium in Las Vegas and Roy Peters color seminars, among others.
He has received extensive training in Schwarzkopf color. Education is very important to him and he attends numerous shows and classes every year with his staff. Wendy has been a stylist since 1995 and has been employed at Layers since 2000. Formerly a Sebastian advocator, Wendy is a color expert who enjoys a challenge and building relationships with her loyal clientele.

I went there to get my hair colored. Had an appointment with Kris Meador. When I got there and explained what I wanted color wise and she basicallly did everything in her power to change my plan. She didn’t seem confident in her abilities nor did she act like she wanted to do this service for me. I ended up walking out. It’s a sham because I used to come to layers all the time but now the stylist are not the same anymore. Would rather go anywhere but here. I won’t ever come back here

I had a wonderful experience at this salon! My stylist was friendly and on time and the other staff members were very welcoming and professional. I was nervous coming in due to Covid but was very pleased to find all the stylists and patrons were wearing masks, the environment was very clean...I even saw a girl wiping door handles as my color processed...and there was hand sanitizer available everywhere for costumers to use. I highly recommend this establishment!

I made an appointment for the same day and for just 30 minutes later then when i called. My stylist was kenn. He put in partial highlights and i absolutely LOVE IT!! It lightened my hair up just the right amount and still looked natural and blended perfectly! Everybody was extremely nice and welcoming. i recommend this hair salon and it is now definitely my first choice.

Thank you Arielle for my beautiful hair cut and color. This is my 2nd time coming during the #COVID-19 pandemic. I was so impressed with how clean the salon is and how often everyone was cleaning during my two visits. Everyone is wearing masks and their is a sign saying masks are mandatory. Plus they are practicing social distancing and asked me politely to wait in my car until my appointment to cut down on traffic. They also nicely reminded me to pull my mask up when it slipped. It is so important that businesses keep staff and patrons safe. I appreciate all their efforts. Not all proper appreciate

I contacted Layers Friday morning before business hours and received a response shortly after their opening time. I was lucky in that there had been a cancellation and was able to get an appointment. As soon as I walked in the front door I was greeted with a genuine hello and even with masks on you could tell there were smiles with the hello. The salon was clean and organized and Rhett did an AMAZIG JOB fixing my Covid hair style. By far the best salon I have found in Richmond, I will be calling Layers my home salon.

I had a very positive and fabulous experience at Layers. I made a same day appointment and the precautions taking during Covid were great and I felt really comfortable with the place. My stylist, Karen, did a great job with my haircut. She was very patient and recommended what style would suit my hair best. I absolutely loved the service by Karen. Would definitely recommend this salon and stylist Karen.

A haircut, like takeout food, isn't something you should feel you need to rush home to fix. Here's how I came to realize that:
My usual stylist outside of town is out with an injury and it was past time for a cut. I opted to try Layers. My stylist here seemed to prefer to go his own way with his cut, made some subtle digs at my last stylist's cut, and pointed out a few trivial flaws in my skin and hair along the way. Apparently Matthew Jones below doesn’t know what he is taking about. The staff at Layers has the cleanest place I’ve been to during COVID. They’re always wearing masks and cleaning constantly, working in staggered shifts to ensure social distancing. Best cut and colors in Richmond! Layers is a great hair salon. I always have a great experience here. My stylist, Marty, is wonderful. Her haircuts are ample reason to return time after time. She is also a skilled colorist. I have never been less than pleased with her work, and I am often complimented on my hair by total strangers. Marty is the best ever!

Stephanie did my hair today! She took me lighter and did an amazing job and also gave me a beautiful lob! I am obsessed with my hair. She took her time despite how thick my hair was and did not rush through it. She made it look amazing! I was looking for salon since moving to Richmond, and I'm excited to have Stephanie do my hair again!

Came here for a simple toner and 1/2 inch trim to get the small amount of dead ends off. I ended up with 3 inches off which I did not ask for and was not told was happening. I am extremely disappointed for what I had done and the price I had to pay for it. Will never come here again and do not recommend coming here even if you think it is a simple task. Not the first time they've messed up a simple task either. Two customers and friends of mine have come here for 1) a haircut that was cut unevenly and 2) the dye ended up being a completely differently color than what was asked for. I hope

Ariella is the best!! I went in for cut, style and highlights. After waiting 4 years to get my hair cut... Relocated from San Francisco to Richmond in 2014...I took a chance and I'm glad I did. Nancy at Layers has been cutting my hair for years now. I'm frequently asked where I get my hair cut because she does such an outstanding job! The other staff at Layers are wonderful as well and I always enjoy my time there. Although they offer a ton of styling products, there is never any uncomfortable pressure to purchase them. I also never have trouble making an appointment on the day I want to go in. Definitely recommend!

Layers is fantastic. I have patronized the business for three years and the experience is always a great one. The staff is extremely competent and professional. Everyone is friendly and they make a genuine effort to get to know clients. I think the entire staff knows my name and more about my hair than I do. Scheduling is done well; I am never left waiting after the start of my appointment.

I called in for an consultation and the stylist who i got was insanely nice, chill, yet confident! For most of my life I kept my hair its natural black color but I wanted to get dyed grey for the summer. Bethany (the stylist) told a paired down version of what would she would do and also gave me a general time frame on how long it would take. So I was so convinced when she was all done talking I just asked if she was free at the moment and then she just started doing her thing

What a wonderful salon. I stumbled upon it while looking for a new place to get my hair cut when I moved into the area, and fate led me to Nancy at Layers. I have been going to her exclusively for two years and she always gives me a great cut. She makes sure to listen to her client's requests, and gives suggestions when asked. She also will walk you through the coloring process with a swatch book when you're looking to change your hair color. Overall, the salon is very open and airy, and the staff are very friendly and polite. Highly recommended!

Horrible service and horrible work! I don't recommend it unless you go to a Master stylist which charges more and it's still not guaranteed. My girl has been doing hair at THAT salon for over 10 yrs. When I told her what I was looking for she just nodded and disappeared for about 20-30 min. What is that?! I'm sure I wasnt schedule during her lunch break. I'f that's not bad enough she doesn't tell me what she's doing and when I ask she just days " what you wanted" the end result was the worst highlight job. Students still in school have done better.
