Services
Oakland Animal Hospital was founded in 1963 by Dr. Henry Peinecke to offer modern and compassionate veterinary care to the animals of Northwest Bergen County and nearby Passaic and Morris Counties. In 1979, Dr. Robert P. Gordon became the director of the hospital. Since 1963 Oakland Animal Hospital has grown from a single veterinary practice and a small staff to three veterinarians, seven veterinarian technicians, and nine support staff.
Selecting a health care provider for your pet is a major decision. Oakland Animal Hospital offers a complete line of services to promote the health and happiness of your pet. Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.
Dr. Gordon runs a great place here. Your dog or cat will be in great hands in their care. Everyone from the vets to the techs-and especially the front desk-is cheerful and most helpful. Bonus points for having a lab in-house, unlike many other nearby animal hospitals. Pleasant, open, and airy waiting room and on-time appointments.
Oakland Animal Hospital is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). As a member of AAHA, we participate in Standards of Accreditation reviews to ensure that we continually apply the best practices to the care of your pet. In 2020, we earned our 38th consecutive accreditation.
This accreditation program developed by the AAHA raises the level of care being provided to animals, ensures that all practices are up-to-date on changes in veterinary medicine, creates challenging benchmarks, improves practice operations, provides skill checks, and encourages leadership development.By achieving accreditation for 38 consecutive years, we are proud to be among the best of the best in the community.

For those clients who prefer mail delivery of your pet's medication, we suggest two options. Once authorized by a staff veterinarian, we can ship your prescription directly from our office to you. Alternatively, for those individuals who prefer an Internet-based veterinary pharmaceutical source, we recommend Covetrus as they work closely with our staff to offer quality products.

If I could give a negative star I would. I'm still getting emails after I switched vets in April. My baby went in for bloodwork and I also felt a lump and was hoping to have her teeth cleaned if all went well. They said the cells from the lump were inconclusive but could do a biopsy with the cleaning (which would involve putting my dog under anesthesia., )because the bloodwork came back fine. I got an estimate of $ 1200-1700 1 month later the price jumped to $2300 -$$2700 I thought this was a little high. Long story short i called for a second opinion my new vet told me my dog could have

We have been going to OAH for 5 years now since we moved to the area. Dr. Gordon was very through and gentle with our two aging dogs. He took the time to make sure we understood exactly what was needed and how… best to care for our dogs. The techs and front desk staff are always so helpful and caring. We have since said a tearful goodbye to our beloved dogs, but we look forward to going back to OAH when we add furry new family member.

Horrible experience when saying good bye to my dog. They were extremely rough and my dog whimpered to the end. Such inhumane behavior. Did not use a catheter to do drugs and said I was the reason she was so upset. Looking for a more caring clinic …. I have had to say good bye to many animals and this was my first horrible experience. What a tragic ending for a truly special animal!

Horrible horrible horrible.... Staff is rude except Karen.
I can't even begin to tell you my experience last week with saying goodbye to my dog. No Catheter used to administer the drugs . My dog was screaming in pure terror! And to boot, the vet say it is because I was in the room..... I ran out crying left her alive with them.... It was the most horrible ending for such a sweet and caring animal. If you don't like you animal this the place for you. Complete inhumane experience in letting go of a family member!

I find the staff to be very compassionate and professional at all times, beginning with the friendly and accommodating receptionists right through to the competent techs and excellent doctors. I have had multiple pets as patients at OAH and will continue to use their services for my pets in the future. The team at OAH provide excellent care!

The only reason I am giving Oakland Animal Hospital 1 star is because I've heard good things about them. However the receptionist, Karen, is one of the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. She was demeaning, condescending, and downright awful. She had no sympathy for me or my pet and our difficult situation, and was beyond rude. Additionally, she accused me of providing an incorrect diagnosis for my pet (which a previous vet had given me), acting as if she knew better. Unless you are the veterinarian or even perhaps the vet tech, you have absolutely no business giving
