I am a trauma therapist because I have a desire and a passion to ease people's pain and suffering. This desire is based on first hand experience. I know what it is like to be fearful and anxious and to have to figure out on your own how to cope with scary situations. I know how those experiences can interfere with your ability to trust and have meaningful relationships.
Couples often seek therapy for conflict related to communication style differences, lack of intimacy or a history of emotional trauma and hurt. Often these differences overlay some basic beliefs in how each person views themselves as partners in their relationship. Sometimes marital conflicts are symptomatic of individual relationship, intimacy and past trauma issues.
Anxiety is a normal response to anticipating or experiencing uncomfortable situations. It becomes a problem when your emotional and physical sensations overwhelm you to the point that it interferes with your day to day life. Extreme anxiety causes intense fear and avoidance. Post-traumatic stress (PTSD) occurs when you are or believe that your physical and or emotional well being is threatened.
Pregnancy in an adventure. There can be challenges experienced during pre-natal, birthing and post-natal periods of a pregnancy. You can be a high risk pregnancy, causing anxiety, based upon your age or other factors. You can discover serious genetic complications that mean making tough choices. A pregnancy may not go to term.
People who have been in car accidents may find it difficult to travel in a vehicle without re-experience the scary emotional memories. It is normal to experience anxiety after being in a car accident. This becomes a problem when you begin to avoid necessary daily routines and tasks like getting in a car and going to work or taking children to school and events.

Earlier this year, I met with Seth Ellner of Private Practice Therapy for an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) session. Like many people, I came in skeptical on the potential effectiveness but after hearing so many positive reviews, I had to try it. The environment is comfortable and Seth really focuses on the root of our mental challenges, whether traumatic or something that you can't quite put your finger on. Can't say enough about finding help for those areas that are difficult to address like this.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Seth Ellner, LicSW professionally for the past several years and I can't speak highly enough of him. Seth is a compassionate and skilled mental health therapist with decades of experience helping individuals overcome traumatic events. Patients that I refer report back that they are shocked how quickly the integrative approach of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can move them past the lasting effects of their trauma so they can start living their lives fully.
