Our skilled and compassionate therapists will help you identify, examine and challenge the thoughts that close doors. We will help you recognize these troubling thoughts and emotions for what they are: the body's best intentions to keep you safe. We know that there is a better life waiting for you. Together, as we compassionately address these patterns, they lose their power to run your life.

Anxiety takes up a lot of space in your mind. It makes you rehearse events or conversations robbing you of your self-confidence and peace of mind. It's hard to stay focused and simply trust yourself. Anxiety feels like a car stuck in a rut, wheels spinning faster and faster, going nowhere. You worry away your precious time and energy with nothing to show for it.
If you're anxious, you ARE holding onto your breath. But if you have pet you have a great breath teacher. Watch them breath. Notice how deeply your pet takes in a breath, down in their belly, nearly down to the base of their legs. Just watch and feel you own body relax and start to match the slow gentle inhale and exhale.
We all have the blues sometimes. But if you have clinical depression, it's more than just a down mood or sad feeling. Major depression is not an emotion. It is a major medical disorder that affects nearly 5-10% of adults in a given year. Over a lifetime you have a 20%, or one in five, chance of having an episode of depression.
Most people are curious about how therapy works with children. It's very different! We use methods that are designed to make it easy for children to express and heal the challenges they face. Therapy with parents involves a lot of talking and insight. With children, play opens a door that talking alone cannot.

I am extremely impressed by Suzie Wolfer and the superb team she has put together at CSP. I have a similar clinic in California, and I find that the organization is beautifully run, and their standards for providing therapy are high. I think one of the best benefits are that their therapists have to meet their standards - so they are pre-screened for folks who don't really have a way to make sure that a therapist is highly qualified.

This second office for Portland Counseling Services shows the dedication of this counseling center to meeting the mental health needs of its community. As a colleague of Suzie Wolfe,r I know she will create the same warm, welcoming environment here as she did at the Tigard office and will staff it with the same high quality, committed professionals.
