The Penguin
Family owned and operated, we serve original Eastern Shore cuisine, using fresh, organic and locally sourced ingredients. Whether you are on a date night and looking for a delicious meal, or want a place to bring the whole family, we look forward to serving you. Very nice restaurant in the downtown area of Bethany beach.

All the food was hot and fresh. Staff was kind and welcoming. We actually visited maybe 10 years ago and enjoyed it then, so glad to see things haven't changed! The food and coffee were excellent. The ingredients seemed to be very fresh and everything was well made and tasted very good. Service was good as well.
Services
A restaurant named The Penguin in Bethany Beach serving original "Eastern Shore Cuisine" with locally sourced ingredients would naturally have its origins in a one-horse farm in. Her family had bought the farm at the beginning of the 1900s.

There Katie's family raised everything from pigs to turkeys, beef cows to chicken, and planted three acres of sweet corn, potatoes, green peppers, several varieties of tomatoes, seedless watermelon, basil, mint and more.Katie weeded the endless rows and hilled the potatoes. On Saturdays, she helped pick the veggies that went to the Farmer's Market in nearby Rutland.
We are located in the heart of Bethany Beach at 105 Garfield Parkway, about 1.5 blocks from the beach. Family owned and operated, we serve original Eastern Shore cuisine, using fresh, organic and locally sourced ingredients. We are family-friendly, and look forward to you bringing your children, strollers and diaper bags!
Our chicken breast and beef is USDA certified organic. Our produce and fruit, poultry, beef and seafood is locally sourced in season where possible. We believe in supporting local small businesses as they support us. We will continue to strive for the purest and freshest ingredients available on the Eastern Shore.

Went here in the off-season. It's very cute, and has a good menu, but you don't get large portions here. I ordered the "jumbo" breakfast wrap and it's hardly jumbo. I will say they have the absolutely best pancakes I have ever had. They are unique and incredible!

Great pancakes bacon and eggs. Good wrap. Very good coffee. I'll be back. They have a lot very unique dishes but we didn't try those. Seemed a little pricey for the fare, but it's so close to the ocean that I get it. Great, friendly staff.

The restaurant offers 100% pure maple syrup on pancakes. They also have this grilled almon BLT which is soooooo good. Who would have thought bacon and salmon combine perfectly together! ❤ ❤ this place!

Staff deserve a shout-out for very good service in addition to caring for a lady who collapsed outside their entrance requiring emergency aid. Staff was short-handed but managed to tend to patrons needs & we were understandably patient. Nice. Will return for breakfast again.

Definitely worthy of a trip. Fast and friendly service. Good food, if a little overpriced. But, then again, that's probably what we get for eating breakfast in a resort town. The brisket bowl was definitely tasty!

It was good, just not great. The Brie and apple omelette had no Brie. The brisket wasn't cut across the grain, so it was VERY long strings of brisket that were difficult to cut with the butter knives provided and it was very hard to eat the sandwich. Tuna melt was great, and the house-made potato chips were very good. Service was attentive.

Brunch was fantastic! We mainly had breakfast food i.e. french toast, seafood scramble, homefries, etc. Portions were great, and the menu has a good variety. All of the food was fresh and service was quick!

Had a lovely lunch at The Penguin after a morning at the beach. We have multiple people in our family with food allergies/celiac disease and we're so happy to find a restaurant that takes them so seriously. Food was very tasty - the first time we've been able to have fried food in a long time! The decor was adorable & facilities were very clean. Highly recommend!

We visited Bethany Beach for a long weekend and we enjoyed The Penguin so much the first time we dined that we came back two days later. Nina's Nutella is a perfect starter. My go to was Andy's Breakfast Wrap with lobster and another fan favorite is the seafood scrambler. The orange juice is freshly squeezed, it's a must. Already looking forward to returning to Bethany and eating at The Penguin again!!

Waitress was amazing. Excellent.

Food was awesome. Asked for crispy home fries came out crispy yes! Eggs great, scrambles, omelets etc all good. Coffee as well. Give them a try.

We don't know Delaware rules for covid, but there was zero social distancing and it's all inside. Waitstaff no masks. I am only posting this part so people have a choice.

Would highly recommend as food and price point for a beach boardwalk place totally good.

So the food was amazing! Loved the veggie omelette and classic. Option with fruit was great. We just wished the server, Ally, was offering the same type of service as she was with other customers. But she was treating us differently. She kept checking other tables, asking how everything was doing, attending to others without being asked... but she never came to us unless we called for us. She didn't come to us to give the check until the we asked when we were all clearly done (had our mask on, we had the plates away from us, tried to signal to waitress without avail.), she wasn't busy

I'm not sure what these naysayers are talking about - they're wrong. This place is great. They were extremely accommodating for our group, including a baby. Everything was delicious. I wish I was more local than Harbeson, but we'll be back :)

Stopped at The Penguin for breakfast today with wife and two young kids. Service was great and Covid-19 precautions were noticed (table spacing, individual condiments, no receipt signing). Food was awesome. Kids split a children's pancakes (after waiter suggested we may only need one portion - always appreciated!). Wife had the Sunrise over Bethany which she enjoyed and I had the Veggie Scrambler (adding bacon). The Veggie Scrambler was loaded with veggies and strips of scrambled eggs. Everything was delicious, very fresh and came out hot/quickly. Coffee was great as well.

We'll definitely

The first thing I noticed when I walked in were all the pictures of penguins done by kids that were absolutely adorable. The staff was super friendly and I could tell from staring at people's tables that the food was going to be great.

I had their Mac n cheese and it was absolutely delicious. It was definitely many steps up from the boxed Mac n cheese that I am used to. My grandma had a breakfast platter and couldn't stop talking about how delicious it was. I ended up absolutely destroying the Mac n cheese. If you haven't noticed, I recommend the Mac n cheese.

Friendly staff, amazing food, relaxed atmosphere of penguins, and good music! Very cool menus with unique hand drawn penguins.

We were a group of 6, they were patient, and the service was quick. Food was great, and reasonably priced. We loved the size of their coffee mugs too. Also, most importantly, try the cream of crab soup!

The Penguin is good if you're looking for a nice breakfast at the beach. It's kind of fancier than the other places around, and the prices reflect that. I think it was worth it because most of the food is locally sourced. I ordered the Nutella pancakes (not really a significant amount of Nutella since the flavor was barely detectable) served with Vermont maple syrup, a small side of fruit (obviously seasonal, local fruit--big, plump blueberries, fresh-sliced peaches, watermelon etc.), and a fresh-squeezed orange juice. My meal was a little over $20. Yikes. Not usually a fan of spending

Much better experience this year. We ate in the Penguin for breakfast and it was good. Had the classic 2 eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast. This place was packed to the gills yet the server was in the ball. The scrambled eggs tasted good but had that made ahead taste and appearance. They were broken up in small egg pieces and spread all over the hash browns. They weren't as hot as they should be. Sausage was good. Potatoes and toast were fine. Overall, good quick breakfast at the beach.

My parents recommended we come here so we stopped in for Sunday brunch. They’ve been here since 2006 but we’ve typically avoided it since it’s in “downtown” Bethany. We do appreciate that they are open in the off-season. Overall we had an okay experience but it was not the best value for breakfast - pricier than average for the portion size even taking into account organic ingredients, maple syrup, etc.
The service was passable to slow. They were understaffed on our visit. Our server was a person of very few words and he was not willing to go off menu with additional requests, even though
