We've successfully created a model that has provided a consistent, in-person preschool experience for our families this year (2020-2021). We are excited to continue this model and operate safely next year in order to give families a reliable in-person preschool experience during the Pandemic. We've been able to protect the heart of preschool - ensuring our children have a place to learn social and emotional skills that will prepare them for life.

Services
Durham Community Preschool (DCP) is a half-day preschool that offers high-quality, nurturing care and education for children age 1 year to 5 years. We are a secular 501 c3 non-profit preschool that was started by a dedicated group of parents in 2009. We like to think of ourselves a as a preschool created by parents, for parents.
For the 2021-2022 school year, we are offering two outdoor preschool sessions to families. During each session, there is a pod of 10 families along with 2 teachers. Any openings or spots will be given to families on the wait list. To join the wait list, families need to fill out our online application.
Durham Community Preschool is known for it's warm and friendly presence! We are looking for educators to join our team who are interested in ongoing personal growth, who have a deep love of children and who are excellent communicators. We aim to provide a welcoming, activity-rich, age appropriate experience to the children in our care.

This school is a hidden gem. My daughter has been there for over three years and the quality of the program, the people, and the director far surpasses all expectations. They are very attuned to development appropriate curriculum with awesome toys and sensory tables. It is a very nurturing and child centered place and my two kids love it! The crafts they bring home are incredible (dinosaur feet, headdress, and tail! plants for our yard! cool textured mixed media pieces, yes please!). The two -three class has such great potty routines that they potty trained my oldest for me!

My 3 year old had a potty accident at this school. They shamed him by removing him from his peers and making him sit in an office in his messy pants for 20 minutes until we could get there to pick him up (even though we had sent a change of clothes for him). I was told to "have a talk with him" as if this was something bad he did on purpose, and possibly not bring him back if he was "not potty trained" (which he definitely is) but obviously they meant don't bring him back if he can't be totally perfect and never have an accident even in a stressful, transitional situation. This was a new place
