Beth El Preschool is a child-centered preschool that encourages each child's sense of wonder, joyful individuality and personal achievement. Our low teacher-student ratios and small classes encourage close friendships, caring and sharing, and a warm sense of community. Our theme-based and age-appropriate curriculum fosters a life-long love of learning.
We offer half-day programs designed for children 22 months through Pre-Kindergarten. We love visitors. To schedule a visit, please contact the Preschool Director. We look forward to meeting you and sharing all that Beth El Preschool has to offer.

We believe there are three components to a wonderful preschool: loving and experienced teachers, fabulous children, and interested and participatory parents. Our school features all three, as well as a peaceful indoor environment and a lovely natural outdoor playground. We teach and learn the skills that matter - now and throughout the rest of life.
While our home of over 40 years at Beth El Synagogue undergoes renovations, we will be located 3-doors down the street in the fully-equipped preschool rooms of Watts Street Baptist Church. Our curriculum, teachers, students and school community will remain the same. We are grateful to our wonderful neighbors at Watts Street Baptist Church for their hospitality.
Beth El Preschool depends on the generosity of our community to provide financial aid scholarships, special educational programs and bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of preschool education. Beth El Preschool is an extra-ordinary place for our children to learn and grow. It has been a vibrant part of our Durham community for the past 45 years.
Melissa Eimer is co-lead teacher of the PreK Class. This is her seventh year teaching at Beth El Preschool. Melissa, who has a Special Education Teacher Certification, loves supporting the academic, social and emotional growth of young children. Before moving to Durham, Melissa worked as an inclusion specialist in the New Jersey school system.
All of our classes feature loving and experienced teachers, wonderful children, and engaging hands-on activities. Our integrated curriculum and developmentally appropriate approach to learning encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence. Our emphasis on social and emotional development allows us to foster an environment filled with caring and sharing.

Both my daughters attended Beth El Preschool and loved it! The teachers are loving, fun and have strong backgrounds in working with children. I've been impressed at how the director actively involves the parent board in decisions to keep the quality of the school high and that even long time teachers continue to learn through professional… development and collaboration to bring new and creative strategies and activities into the classroom. Also, both my daughters and I have continued friendships made at Beth So Preschool even after we've "graduated."
