Each AMI inspector is licensed, bonded, insured and certified by the State of Oregon, and also a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). AMI's master inspectors provide detailed inspection reports and clear explanations that give you a complete picture of any home. A top-quality home inspection is the only way to really know what you're getting when you buy your home.

Rule #64 of home inspections: If anyone *can* do their own plumbing work, anyone *will* do their own plumbing work. As we've mentioned before, every plumbing fixture is supposed to have one trap to hold a small plug of water and prevent sewer gas from rising up out of the drain. This homeowner must have been one of those people who believe that "more is better."

We are selling our home and the buyers' agent hired Jim Katen at AMI to perform the general home inspection. We had communicated our requirement to be double-masked when inside our home, per current CDC guidelines, due to having a high-risk individual in our household. While we were away during the inspection, our outdoor security camera alerted us of activity in the backyard along with a video clip that showed the inspector going into and coming out of our home without a mask on his face at all. Each time we are forced to book a different inspector due to Jim being booked, we are reminded how inferior all inspectors are compared to Jim. He is always on time, incredibly responsive, friendly, respectful and maybe most importantly - a wealth of knowledge. There simply is nothing that Jim does not know about a house, building codes and safety.
Really can't recommend Jim and the rest of AMI enough.

We had Toby out to look at a house that we had put an offer on. He was incredibly thorough. The notes were meticulous and he had no end to his insight around what fixes might look like for the issues. Jim at AMI is the definition of a pro. He's been at it for decades and his experience and attention to detail is immediately evident. We had a previous buyer's inspection to compare with and Jim's was so much more in-depth, it was like night and day. He covered every inch of the house, offering honest assessments and practical tips from major aspects like foundation, plumbing, and electrical, all the way down to a minor worn-out piece in the washing machine. Alex Hayes inspected a property for me and did a fantastic job. I appreciated all the pictures and detailed notes. An added feature was the ability to create a list from the inspection of things I'd like to repair or replace. This feature made the process of gathering info and getting it fixed easy.

I moved to Oregon from the Bay Area, and hired Jim Katen inspect more than one of the homes I was interested in. He was on punctual, methodical, focused, communicative, and knowledgeable. His reports gave me the knowledge I needed to make informed decisions about the properties. What more could you ask for? Oh, he's responsive even after the fact to explain a detail further or answer a question you forgot to ask. I hope I don't need him any time soon, but I'd higher them again. Mark Lindgren performed a home inspection and provided a comprehensive legible report with photos containing valuable information about our prospective purchase. He was thorough and professional, and he taught me a number of things regarding future maintenance. His inspection provided piece of mind to me and my partner who Skyped in and listened as Mark summarized his findings at the conclusion of the morning. It's really no wonder that Mark and AMI are so highly regarded in Portland. Also, AMI provided a list of contractors whose work they feel is reliable, which is probably on their website

Mark Lindgren did our inspection and he was simply amazing. He found things that a previous inspector did not find and left no stone unturned. I would use AMI over and over again and will refer them to everyone we know, including clients of the law office I manage. We were moving from out of state and needed a solid inspector who could not only do a thorough job, but would be able to annotate and provide details like pictures. Jim did a fantastic job and the report had the level of detail we needed in order to have a bunch of work done remotely before we even showed up.

Jim Katen recently inspected a home we're in the process of purchasing, and he did a fantastic job. He was extremely thorough, and we greatly appreciated that he was able to explain issues in layman's terms so we could fully understand the issues he found and his recommendations. This is the second time that we hired Jim Katen to do an inspection for us. He will find everything that is wrong with the house you intend to purchase! He will crawl into the corners of your attic and will inspect the crawlspace as well.
His report will be delivered very quickly and it's beautifully written. You will get a great impression of the quality of your home and will support you in a decision to purchase the property or not. The report will then serve as a list of 'things to fix' later on.

I just bought my second home, and since this last one is a total fixer-upper, I knew I needed to find an Inspector who was EXTREMELY good. I did, I found Jim Katen after weeks of research. I couldn't be happier with the professional, prompt and courteous service he gave my fiancé and me.

If you need a house inspection done, Associated Master Inspectors is the company to use. We were purchasing an older home in Lake Oswego and requested a thorough inspection to be done. Our inspector spent 6 hours checking the house, photographing and documenting all problem areas and defects. The report consisted of 38 pages of Observations and Recommendations. Upon reviewing the report (arrived by email the next day), we concluded there were too many major items that needed to be fixed and did not buy the house. We thank AMI for their courteous and complete service.
