Tried to go here on a Tuesday night at 7pm. Hours posted claimed they were open. Arrived and lights were off, door was locked. Called the phone number and listened to the recording. Listed the business hours as being during the time I was outside the restaurant. Nothing was posted to explain the business being closed. Huge disappointment as a friend drove from out of town to meet and have dinner

Das Steinhaus is an amazing little German restaurant. Helmet the owner is very nice and the food was good. Me and my dad had the schnitzel and it was good but a little salty, my mom got like a combo dish thing and it was good but the best was the sausage. I definitely think anyone that sees this review should try Das Steinhaus!

If you're coming to Das Steinhaus expecting slick upscale ambiance-you went to the wrong restaurant. It's humble and unassuming. What you will get is authentic German cuisine & a great beer served by the owner and chef who takes pride in every dish he serves. It harkens back to the old supper clubs back in the day. The restaurant is concerned with giving the good people of Jefferson City a taste of Germany and it does just that.

Got there about 8:10...closing time said 9:00. Seemed like they were already out the door when we got there. The food was just so-so, and we got our salads at the same time as our dinner....the Schnitzel was the best thing about dinner, but the potatoes and red cabbage were bland, and the Rouleden seemed more like pot roast or sauerbratten than like 2 slices of filets...the old man was sweet, and the atmosphere is german/charming.

So the website said nothing about having a reservation. My husband and I went and we wait for a long time. While we were waiting a party of five also showed up. When the hostess came up and asked if we had a reservation and then ask the other party and they didn't have one either. We ask if reservation are required and she said "no but it doesn't help if everyone shows up at the same time without one". She then went off and checked if there was room. We decides to leave, didn't want to inconvenience them.

Well, where to start. The outside ain't much to look at but the car count was high and my friend who lives in JC said to meet him here so I arrived just before he did around 6:30. I walked in the door, and the Bar crowd fell silent. Maybe it was because I was wearing a mask (what with COVID and all.) Most of the patrons were not and perhaps they knew I was not a regular. No one said hello, no server greeted me, the crowd started talking again so I sat down hoping I wouldn't get into a donnybrook-given that it was St. Patty's day.
The friends arrived, we made our way back through

Great meal. We had the German Sampler which was very good. A nice selection of different dishes you don't normally have the opportunity to order. The sweet cabbage was an interesting German side. It was kind of unusual to have karaoke going next door. The bread was a bit of a disappointment because it just seemed like a store bought loaf cut in half. Overall though a very good meal. They prefer reservations FYI, but they seated us without it.

I've loved German food my whole life but didn't get to taste the real deal until my husband re-enlisted in the Army. Now that he's retired and we've moved to Jefferson City, this is the place to get my fix. I can't name a think on the menu that doesn't remind me of the foods that I tasted when I was a military spouse. The atmosphere is homey and friendly, the portions are plentiful and the music is pure Deutschland!

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Jefferson City. Delicious German food, eclectic atmosphere, wonderful staff and a charismatic owner.
The Wiener schnitzel is absolutely delicious, as are the meatballs bordelaise. We've also tried the beef rouladen and the filet steak al a Diana and both were great. Their Black Forest cake has become my fiancé's favorite dessert anywhere.
The food is a bit pricey, but portions are large and it's a splurge that you won't regret!

My friend and I were looking for lunch and Das Steinhaus was recommended by a friend. So we headed over for lunch. They were closed but a man came out from a side kitchen door and said they didn't open till 4 but if we wanted he would fix us a quick snack and we could have a few beers. The man is Helmut the owner. He gave us a beer a quick tour and a snack. We talk with him a few hours.
We left and later that day returned for dinner. A great restaurant with a wonderful owner. The German sampler plate is outstanding. I will go out of my way to revisit Das Steinhaus and have a beer with Helmut

My first visit to Das Steinhaus was about 15 years ago, when a bunch of folks from work took me out to dinner here. I helped order the wine for the table; and, we had a fantastic time. Since then, I've made it a point to visit Das Steinhaus any time I return to Jefferson City.
On my prior visit, I showed up before the restaurant opened (my stomach was still on Eastern Time); and, just ordered a supper to-go.
On this visit, I showed up right at 5 with hopes for dining in the main restaurant; but, found out only the lounge would be open. I took a seat; and, was greeted by the bartender
