Over Priced with out dated furniture that smelted like moth balls, we couldn't stop sneezing our whole stay here until we realized the curtains had never been washed and were covered in dust how disgusting!!!
The A/C sounds like a tractor and you should bring ear muffs if you decide to stay here.
The washing machine and dryer can only be used after 6pm when the housekeeping finishes using it,
The pool had never been cleaned our whole stay, they have old ugly cats that hang around the hotel inside and outside.
For $100 a night this place is way over priced and would not recommend to anyone

Tropics hotel is a soulful, wonderful experience every time.
We stay here each Art Basel Miami week. We have a pretty corner room, renovated a few years ago with a natural-wood look floor and tasteful bathroom design, with the window opening out over the rooftops and street. Lovely feeling!
Lacking pretension, this hotel across from the beach continues to keep the room prices within reason. In my mind, there is a sense of goodwill in providing a space for professors, art critics and dealers, working people, and students who aren't in the 1%. The entire building and grounds are immaculate

The Tropics Hotel & Hostel is the best bargain in the tropical paradise that is South Beach. First is the unbeatable location: two blocks from the beach, on the main drag, Collins Avenue, within walking distance of Ocean Drive, Lincoln Mall, shops galore, the charming restaurants of Espaniola Way, and more! We've been coming here yearly for over ten years, and the friendly staff, simple but spotless accommodations and big, beautiful pool keep us coming back again and again.

I would never stay here again or recommend anyone else to. This place is OLD & UNSANITARY, Uuugh.. Their was a BIG CAT sitting on top of the front desk, yuk! I could hear everything an everyone outside my room door and window, guest at the pool loud and clear. The bed was just a full size thin mattress on a built in box-bottom,Smh only one outlet worked. $20 deposit for a room key connected to PVC PIPE.. Cheap & Great location, but old outdated, smelly, small and just horrible. I checked in at 3pm and checked out at 11pm that same evening/night.. Smh

Well I couldn't believe the price when I found it through an internet search. I had to call and make sure these prices were legit. I spoke with a very friendly lady by the name of Lizzie (not sure on the correct spelling) and she was very informative as I told her it is my very 1st time in Miami. I look forward to meeting her as most likely this will be the place I book for my trip to Miami this summer. And thank you to all you yelpers that have posted reviews!

This hotel is disappointing. I didn't book it thinking it was going to be a beautiful place, by I want something functional for my stay. There were a total of two free outlets within the room and one didn't work. They refused to give us more towels and were totally rude about it. She literally was like "you used BOTH towels??". Yes, I used both towels. She told me to wait until the cleaners were in my floor. There was no shampoo in the bathroom and no iron.
If you have no standards then this place of for you, but even minor expectations can't be met here.

I loved this spot, not too fancy but not too shabby. The price was EXCELLENT, the staff was helpful, the customer service was great and location was perfect. When I am in Miami from now on, I will definitely stay here. The cooking area is great if you want to cook and not spend $$$$$ on food on the strip. The pool is cleaned daily!! The lobby is extremely relaxing.

Stayed here twice....and 10yrs between stays. The location and price more than make up.for the lack of amenities. Dont expect alot of bells and whistles. Staff has always been accommodating and nice. This is an old school art decco hotel/hostel that still uses keys. And you can leave the key with the front desk so you dont have to worry about loosing your room key....very helpful

We stayed I'm a room for $220 total for 2 nights. Can't beat the price for the location. This is not the place if you're looking for some fancy hotel. It's bare bones. I'd probably not stay and sheer out more money for a more conformable room and bed.
My only complaints are the windows don't open and there's no way to adjust the fan/ac/heat. Whatever comes out of the vent, is what you get. Meaning, one night our room was hot another it was cold in our room.

Pathetic, Unprofessional and Rude hostel. I book a bed in a dormitory, and they forced me to take a private room and pay extra. Probably they oversold their beds, instead of compensating me for their mistake, the front desk lady rudely said "Either pay the full price of a private room or go and find any other hostel". I explained that I have done a booking and have already paid the amount for the bed and she said that she doesn't care. The only good thing in this hostel is its location, but their are tons of other hostels nearby.

Not impressed. The TV is only getting spotty cable service, we keep getting an error message that the signal is lost and can't watch anything. I called about it and was told it sounds like a problem with the cable and that's out of their hands. The rooms are clean and the price/location is great but there's no real amenities to the rooms. There's no cable, the WiFi is crap and doesn't work either. There's no thermostat fridge or microwave or anything in the hotel rooms. It's decent for just a night though.

The Tropics is a good place to stay for the money. The location is great as well, it is a block away from the beach and the popular Ocean Drive. The only negative comment is that it is out of date. The rooms are very outdated and it could use a makeover. Overall the place was clean and the service was good. They were very accommodating and helpful at the front desk.

Bit of a tired old hotel but clean, comfortable, cheap and right across from the beach. I paid $120 a night for a double room which was cheap for the area. A pool, kitchen, free wi-fi and laundromat in the hotel made up for the very budget room, as did the fact that the beach and Lincoln Mall were 2 minutes walk away. Just don't plan to spend too much time in your room.

You know what, this place was just very good. I came here with a friend for Spring Break. It seems like it was the best hotel in Miami Beach at this price range, mostly because of the proximity to the beach/babes. We stayed in a double room, which was not "clean feeling" but it was clean. This was just because it was not the most modern place, but that was expected. The bathroom was a closet, but it did its job proudly. You could tell the walls were somewhat thin, but our neighbors weren't noisy.
The pool was decent on rainier days, as a hangover cure, and a great place to hang

Stayed here for two nights while visiting South Beach.
Nice, clean and definitely budget friendly!
Very close to all the cool So. Beach attractions that people travel afar to enjoy! Everything is walking distance and makes Tropics so much better!!
The room has three beds, a bathroom, a mini fridge and a safe to keep anything secured.
I liked it and was thankful to have found this budget friendly place. I recommend it!!

I've stayed here at least 4 times with friends, it's basically a hostel/hotel. It's very cheap for private or dorm rooms. It has a huge beautiful clean pool and is only a block from ocean ave. It's in a great location and has a very cozy and comfortable lobby.
The kitchen isn't super clean but it gets the job done.
It's great to get some beers and hang out front and watch the world go by. You cannot beat this place for price and location.
There is parking at a garage half a block away.
