Rented with Safeguard for 2 years. Any issues with the apartment were dealt with promptly and management was reasonable and responsive. Our property manager, Ryan, was professional and friendly throughout.

Everything was fine with management except the building I rented in had a lot of problems (seemed to be gutted and renovated in a rush). But it was more of the builder/construction’s fault of poor design. Safeguard did what they could.

Had an overall great experience with Safeguard Realty Management. They were professional and efficient from the application process through to the end of my lease. They sent me back my security deposit in a timely manner with no issues at all. Definitely appreciate Ryan and his team for all of their help and definitely recommend renting from them.

Currently renting from SafeGaurd and my roommates and I have been renting from them for 1.5+ yrs. The property we are in is quality and affordable. Yes, our property manager, Alex, is sometimes hard to reach, but he is quite reasonable and fair. I can sympathize with other reviewers' experiences regarding untimely return of security deposit, but I don't think this comes from a place of dishonesty if anything it comes from incompetence. For example, our lease ended in July 2018, we were planning on re-signing, but they didn't request a resigned lease until the middle of October. Just pure disorganizing

Whatever you do, DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE. They are the worst landlords I've ever dealt with in NYC. They stole my security deposit.
The apartment (1206 Halsey 3L/553 Wilson Ave) was left in good condition, it had nothing to do with that, they simply stole it. Alex Abreu and everyone who works there is unprofessional and their lack of integrity is truly astounding. It's impossible to get ahold of them. They are unresponsive to communication. They waited to approve our application until the last possible second which made planning to move in difficult. Our refrigerator was broken for the second

Ryan is our property manager. We've only been in the place a month but he's responded to every email within a business day and is always helpful and professional. I felt obligated to put out a review acknowledging that some folks may have had a negative experience with the company but there is at least one great employee there!

I can’t recommend Safeguard. We rented an apartment from them for a year, paid our rent on time and were good tenants. It’s been more than two months since we moved out and still waiting for our security deposit. We left the apartment early and were promised the return of the deposit soon after in an email but it didn’t come. Calls and emails are now ignored with no updates. We need our money back for other expenses. Avoid doing business with them!

Despite some of the other reviews, I have been impressed with the professionalism and willingness to help of Safeguard and its staff. Ryan at Safeguard immediately attended to a plumbing situation and made sure the other tenants had due warning of necessary repairs. He remained in contact throughout the process and to my surprise, the contractors actually showed up when he said they would. Compared to most NYC property management companies, I feel like I am in very good hands with Safeguard and would highly recommend it to a friend or family member.

They are completely absent and uncommunicative when you need them to be otherwise. We had multiple instances where we were without heat and hot water and it took us many days to get a hold of them. Even getting finding out where to send rent checks was near impossible. You are better off renting from a brick wall.

RUN! Would give 0 stars if I could! MICE. COCKROACHES. FLOODING. and now they have the audacity to take $2500 from our security deposit when we left the apartment in wonderful condition. If you want a management company that will pick up their phone and help you when there is an issue I urge you to rent elsewhere.
