We actually just checked in today for our first ever trip to Cape May (my husband, myself and our 3 yo). I am currently sitting in our room (2 queen beds) and loving our home for the next three days. The rooms are clean and it smells amazing in here (and throughout the hotel). Walking through the hallways makes me feel nostalgic and I wonder what these walls would say given that it is the second oldest hotel in Cape May. The lady that greeted us upon check-in and later on, Lisa, are so sweet and really make you feel so welcome and explain everything related to beach passes, towels etc. I don&apos

Worst and most unsafe place to stay ever! Do not go there especially now during COVID 19 pandemic. We went there in August when cases where still high and besides one piece of plexiglass, there was no protection. Front desk and staff were not wearing masks; guests in the lobby were gathering on couches without masks, no doors or windows open, no good ventilation. Worst customer service ever- no one cared when we raised the concern of safety. The staff was rude and the owner cared less, they were not willing to cancel our stay as we feared for our safety.
Also, there is NO PARKING, the parking

Unwarranted pretense. This hotel is demanding a price it no longer deserves. The heyday of years gone by is over and the posh no longer come here by train from the city. But they pretend here that they still can command prices from those wonder years. The hotel is tired, not timeworn in an elegant way. The halls are depressing and silently echo what used to be and the owner clearly thinks still is. Now the details.
The staff were indeed friendly and helpful. Parking is a joke about a mile away. It’s the best they can offer because of the way the town is arranged. I get it. Cape May in September

We stayed one night at Hotel Alcott after Tropical Storm Isasias knocked out power at our other hotel. They were extremely welcoming of us and we so appreciated it. Very clean rooms (on the small side for a basic queen room) but a nice comfortable place. The location is good and it’s about a 15 minute walk from anywhere in town. It is one block from the beach. Would definitely recommend staying here!

The parking is NOT onsite. They do not tell you this at check-in. You have to drive to 608 Bank Street to park in a lot. They only provide parking to guests who purchase suites. This is not right. Each guest, especially during times of which they may need to close come fall due to COVID, should be considered important enough to be entitled to a closer parking space. By foot, it is a 12 minute walk to the hotel. By car, about a 2 minute drive. For the price they charge, having to park offsite is ridiculous. Also, the walls are paper thin. You can hear the person in the room next to you in the bathroom

Hotel was clean and the service was friendly. Breakfast was continental. I brought ear plugs because of previous reviews. We didn't have a problem with noise at all. Yes we heard people talking etc but nothing major. We slept through the night. We stayed in a suite which also shared the veranda. Both rooms were small but two is better than one. This made it tolerable. For such an old hotel it is taken care of and really does have a lot of charm. As far as the free lot. We parked on the street two blocks over for free. They do give you a drawn out map in case you want to use their lot

If i could give this place 10 stars, I would. We just got married and had our reception here. Everyone RAVED about the food. The staff went above and beyond to make our day flawless. Dory the coordinator was so helpful and informative. The rooms are very nice, and give that old victorian feel that is abundant in Cape May. The decor is beautiful. Can not go wrong with this place.

Very clean, with a quiet elegance. Just a few blocks from the center of town. Our room was small but clean and elegant in every sense. The sink was a beautiful porcelain period piece, and the shower was modern with a glass divider. There is a basic breakfast every morning. There is no parking but they do offer a pass to a local public lot. We didn't find that to be a problem in the off-season, and parked right out front. There is a pretty courtyard, but the experience was diminished by the constant and rather loud hum from the AC units. If you want a quiet stay away from the buzz, this is your

Room on third floor,no elevator, I almost killed myself trying to carry luggage up all those steps. No help, woman at desk did not even offer and assistance. No parking, lot is a mile a way. Walk a mile and then climb the steps. I was worn out. I will never stay af forever again.
No pool. I ask about a pool, lady at the desk suggested the large pool with salt and crab, not what I meant.smart answer.
Pillows and beds were comfortable.

Myself and my fiancé had a scheduled appointment to look at the venue for our wedding. We drove almost two hours to see the hotel and upon arrival we were told by the front desk that they had no appointments for the day. We explained we had made one in advance with Sandi for one pm. The desk clerk went and got the manager who explained to us that the person we would normally meet with had an emergency of some type and called out of work. We were upset especially since we received no communication of the issue. The same manager could answer none of our questions about the venue and kind of rushed

Was in a wedding that was held at the Hotel Alcott. It was a great spot for the wedding and reception. Great staff and the food was delicious. It was more of a low key wedding and I felt like it was the perfect venue.
The weekend itself was amazing as Cape May is a great city to get married in. Beach and bars and all that good stuff. Within an hour of the wedding ending everyone was in the water. Think about it. It could be great.

When we arrived on September 21st we learned the restaurant was closed for the season, parking is only available offsite 7 blocks from the hotel and a wedding reception and dinner were booked in the middle of our 3 night stay. None of this information was offered to me when I booked the reservation.

The wedding was an issue for us because the room is barely large enough for the bed and the only place to sit and relax is the beautifully appointed lobby or the lovely porch, both of which were overwhelmed with wedding guests and servers.

The property is otherwise beautiful, well maintained and

My biggest complaint was the parking situation. This was not disclosed upfront and it turned out to be very aggravating especially because this was not an inexpensive hotel. The parking lot was more than a half mile away and very difficult to find. The alternative was to find spots in the residential area a few blocks away if you were lucky. This impacted our plans because we were afraid to take the car and then not find a spot at night and have to walk. We were told the parking lot was a half mile away, but after we finally scouted it out, there was no way it was a half mile to the hotel, more

Me and my boyfriend stayed here while on a 5 day vacation. We weren't at the hotel much except to sleep and maybe stop in for a nap, but it when we were there it was lovely. The bed was AMAZINGLY COMFORTABLE!! Lots of people complain about the room size, but it didn't bother us. The a/c in the room was nice considering it was a very hot week.
The whole parking situation was a little confusing at first, but we got used to it quickly and didn't mind it. Almost everything you need is within walking distance anyway!
There really isn't anything to complain about! Staff was very friendly and hotel

Eboni, a hotel associate, was helpful and a pleasure to work with. She accommodated my fiancé and I to upgrade to a suite for our anniversary, and she also accommodated us with a mini fridge for the room. The hotel is clean. We will stay here again!

Great Hotel, we had our wedding here and they exceeded our expectations. Alan was great and made sure everything went smoothly. Rooms are well maintained, and the hotel has the Victorian charm that is seen throughout Cape May.

My family had a terrible experience with this hotel. We were going to the hotel for a long awaited sibling trip but the night before our mother was rushed to the hospital with acute pneumonia. The hotel would not use the $600 for another stay. I had booked on Booking.com and when I spoke to their customer representative she even remarked that this was heartless on the hotel's part. I will never deal with hotel again.

I always considered the hotel industry to be a service industry. I was sorely mistaken about assuming the Hotel Alcott was at all concerned about service. I had reservations for a two night stay and was packed and ready to go. I then had a family emergency grave enough to prevent me from going away. I had booked through booking.com and they were wonderful. Not the case for the Hotel Alcott. They refused to use our 600.00 for another weekend and the general manager was cold as ice and not at all sympathetic.

Beyond disappointed with this hotel. For what you pay its absolutely not worth it. And I will never ever ever recommend someone to stay at this so-called "Hotel"

Pros:
We got a suite with a veranda attached which was beautiful but aside from that and the lobby was the only other nice thing about this "hotel".

Cons:

The room itself was alright but nothing to go crazy over.

The wifi service was spotty and mostly unreliable. Which essentially is the only modern amenity this place has to offer aside from televisions. When we told the front desk about it they told us to come

Receptionist very informative and accommodating upon arrival, wait staff and housekeeping would acknowledge us throughout our stay with friendly hellos. Complimentary breakfast was delightful with cereal, oatmeal, bagels, coffee--and a little antique charm. Coffee ready at 7am! You can wake up everyday and sit outside to enjoy your coffee/breakfast. There are rocking chairs on the front porch where you can relax and listen to ocean soundscape. 10hr Parking (metered) in front of the hotel that ends from 10pm to 10am with nearby residential spots free of charge. Free parking with permit at a lot

Just got married in Cape May this past May and had our wedding reception at the Alcott. Everything was perfect, it could not have been any better. Alan was terrific to deal with, the staff extremely nice and the Main Dining Room and Veranda were set-up beautifully for the cocktail hour and reception and the food was terrific. Everyone had a great time and thought the reception was absolutely beautiful. We could not have been happier. Thanks Alan!!!

Hotel upon arriving was definitely pretty. Front desk person was friendly. Room was very clean, a bit plain and small but bed super comfortable. There were definite things that needed to be fixed, replaced. Such as the door knob to the closet was virtually hanging off, extra outlets didn't work except in the bathroom too. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room however so that little stuff didn't matter it was just we felt overpriced considering. Especially cause we ended up eating out to breakfast both mornings anyway due to the continental breakfast being bad. They were accommodating

Loved it. Old world charm. Staff was pleasant and attentive, the room was small but well appointed and the bed was a dream. Great location, short walk to the beach, restaurants, the Mall. Only downside is parking, but a block or two in either direction and you can find street parking, and they do offer a lot with free parking. For me this is not a problem since when I go to Cape May I generally walk wherever I go anyway. Great continental breakfast every morning.
Definitely a place I'd revisit.

"There are hundreds of places to stay in Cape May and we stayed here." - Me

I'm not gonna go nuts here as the other reviewers pretty much have this one nailed down. From their website, Hotel Alcott looks like a great place to stay. From the front porch and the lobby, Hotel Alcott looks like a great place to stay. From the actual room that you stay in, Hotel Alcott is not look such a great place to stay.

We were here just this past weekend and the hotel was overrun by a wedding party of who knows how many people. I won't begrudge them for that as we were informed of the wedding

First time to Cape May so not much to compare it to by way of accommodations but I really liked it.

Be warned the room is really small and I think the walls may be made of paper. At night you could hear people in other rooms and in the halls as though they are in your room!

Despite the above I gave it four stars because it is really close to the beach, restaurants, liquor store, and the Washington street mall. In addition the place is really clean, included a decent continental spread each morning, lemonade and cookies at the door each day, and everyone was really friendly.

I would return

I stayed here once because at the last minute my boyfriend and I decided to add a night to our Cape May trip but the hotel we were booked at didn't have any other rooms.

The hotel is located south of the Washington street mall, and in a different part than we're used to being located. The room that we had was quite small and it seemed like the furniture inside had to be squished in in order to get everything to fit. The one thing I did like was that the decor stayed true to a post-Victorian feel, but still had a flatscreen tv.

We didn't really spend much time there and that was
