As industry work was moving to China or Mexico in 2003, Lou Buehler chose another technical field: home inspection. He could marry the detail he admired and accomplished in industry with the ASHI-based requirements for home inspections. Lou then chose a company because they were beginning to use digital cameras and to write a report based on the database FileMaker.
Lou established his own company, First Choice Home Inspector, LLC, in 2004. The company began training well-educated, technical people entering the home inspection field in 2014. Continuing his interest in computer science from college, Lou designed an iPhone App to unite the most advanced iPhone with the best iPhone camera for home inspections.

Services
Foundation inspections are usually performed after sidewalls are poured and plumbing is finished. This is best done before the basement floor is poured. Pre-drywall inspections are best performed before any drywall is installed. This allows us to inspect wiring, framing, windows, foundation, drainage, some roof elements, attic elements, flooring, fireplaces, sump pumps, ejector pumps, tub installations, and ductwork on the inside.

Lou B. performed our inspection and during it, I followed him around noting things that needed done. At the outside furnace exhaust, as we went to observe it, I noticed a strong gas smell and mentioned it to Lou and my realtor Jessica W. who was also present at the inspection. He didn't say much about it. I asked if it was normal and he said yes. So, on move in day we move in and the downstairs furnace is blowing cold air out. Non- functioning. After 7 days of being cold and trying to self fix it, calling techs and talking to my realtor for options we were advised that the heat exchanger was bad

Lou is professional, punctual, and is well-trained in his field. He had just returned from a continuing education course out of state the day before he inspected my property. He's passionate about what he does. I followed him around during the inspection because I wanted to learn all I could about my future first home. I recently bought my first house and Lou was the perfect home inspector for a new homeowner. He is extremely detail-oriented and takes the time to explain anything that's an issue in the home. Lou recently completed an inspection of our home prior to listing it for sale. He was very easy to work with, prompt, thorough and honest regarding repairs need before listing. I purchased a home in Indianapolis, IN in June and the inspection was arranged for me by my realtor. I was not able to be at the inspection so my daughter stood in for me and Louis couldn't have been more cordial and more thorough. My daughter was quite impressed and we received the report very promptly after the inspection. Louis was meticulous and the report was very well organized and easy to understand. My realtor and I were able to prioritize the most serious issues right away and send a response to the seller. Louis was especially thorough with his inspection of the mold problem in the attic

I cannot say enough great things about Lou in regards to the recent home inspection my wife and I scheduled with him. He was prompt and thorough with communication, very detail-oriented throughout the inspection process (but explained things in layman’s terms when asked, which was much appreciated!), and helped to ease tension for first-time home buyers going through a somewhat daunting process. He was honest with his feedback, and the report he provided post-inspection was truly top-notch and left no stone unturned. Again, cannot recommend Lou and First Choice enough!

Lou from First Choice was the inspector hired by the buyer of my residence. After the inspection, I returned home to find the front door unlocked, several windows unlocked, the furnace filter, and front cover laying on the garage floor. I called Lou to question why my residence was left unsecured. He immediately got defensive, and his attitude problem was on full display.
