Hidden away in a residential area at the foot of Signal Montain is this Chattanooga gem. I have eaten here many times over numerous years and never been disappointed. Quality food at a very reasonable price. Portions are adequate but not overwhelming. I always go for the daily specials which are excellent. Most specials come with a fresh vegetable blend, potato casserole, baby lettuce salad with a berry vinagrette dressing and a homemade roll. Don't forget the dessert. I especially like their key lime pie.

I was visiting friends in Chattanooga, and The Big Table was their recommendation for dinner on a recent Saturday evening. Man, they've never steered me wrong, and The Big Table did not disappoint. What a terrific meal! Everything from the soups and salads to the appetizers and entrees, they were all perfectly prepared and tasted heavenly. The owner, Karen Loveless, took care of all our needs quickly and efficiently. Also, she told me to order the crab cakes, and I did as I was told. They were the BEST crab cakes I've EVER had, and I'm 45 years old. Kudos to everyone involved in

Nice little house with American food - sandwiches, salads, specials (casseroles!). Service friendly. Good for a group at lunch. A single gets a little overlooked. Dessert (lemon bar) was fine, but could have used more lemon but I'm a lemon lover. Poppy seed casserole good, just like mom would make. I recommend.

If you're driving from the north side of town, it's well worth eating here in an old craftsman-style home. It's a Signal Mtn neighborhood joint with reasonably priced food-- trout almandine with sides and a true salad, no iceberg, $13, for example. If you're driving from downtown, it might make more sense to stay downtown and choose a local option there (although the tourist district of Chattanooga is sadly overrun with chains). The coconut creme pie is worth sharing at the end, too.

The story behind the name, The Big Table, is one worth hearing. Any kid who sat at the little table for family get-togethers can identify with sitting at The Big Table. So eating here means good food and a family atmosphere. Although the seating is limited, I have rarely had to wait and service is excellent. I loved the casseroles and the house salad.

The Big Table
118 Cross St
Tu-Sat; 11:00+
Table is located in the shell of a ca. 1920's two bedroom house. The interior has been opened, but not renovated. Parking is in the rear with entrance up a slight flight of stairs into small rooms beside the kitchen which serve as foyer, drink station and order pick-up. This opens onto the dining area.
Mismatched wooden tables and chairs crowd the space. Navigation can be difficult, when full the noise is a bit loud, and the seating comfort is more "home-style" then restaurant. Decorations consist mainly of framed photos and family type

By far my families favorite restaurant! I recommend it to everyone. Only place in town to get a 12oz.steak that tastes out of this world, with two sides and a salad for only 12.95! Has outside tables great for those warm summer days. On the cold days come in for the best homemade soups in town. Everything on the menu is great but be sure to check out the special board. Any entree off that is a home run. Does catering too! Just wrting this review is making me hungry. Off to the Big Table tonight with friends.

This is the kind of place that Yelp was designed to showcase. Small, off the beaten path, and absolutely delicious, this family-owned kitchen is an extraordinary cafe-style restaurant with wonderful dishes incorporating fresh, home-made, local food. The dining area only seats mabye a dozen people, but it is a tremendous place to go with a group or family get-together. Service was very good and even though the decor is a bit mashed together, it all works for a great eating experience. Kudos to them and I hope that they can sustain it.
