If you enter the doors of Disocvery Time, the first thing you migh notice is our team motto: One Team, One Dream! This motto was created in 2014 when founder Stephanie Harris started our program, achieving a dream that she discovered as a high school student at local T.C. Williams.
While taking an early childhood elective class, she recognized her passion for children and at just 16 years old she set the goal of opening her own day care and preschool program in her hometown of Alexandria, VA.In 2014, that dream finally came true as she opened the doors to our first location. We are honored that you are considering Discovery Time as a place for your child and family. Prospective parents are encouraged to contact the director for detailed enrollment information or you may simply take a look at our step-by-step guide to enrollment below. Our daycare and preschool program operates on rolling admissions meaning you may enroll at any time during the year as long as space is available.
Discovery Time Learning Center provides much more than just child care and daycare services. When you join our program, you join a school community committed to supporting and empowering the children and families that we serve. Your child's safety is our #1 priority.
Our facility has the highest program safety precautions including on-site security cameras, telephones in every room, a secure entry system at our school's entrance, CPR & MAT certified staff, monthly practice of safety drills, and on-going program safety training for our team.Our parent-accessible classroom cameras help parents stay connected to their child during the day.

Discovery Time's Infant and Toddler program includes our infant suite, crawlers and mobile transition classroom and toddler classroom to meet the needs of children 6 weeks - 24 months old. Our two year old program includes a classroom for younger 2s and a separate transition, junior preschool classroom for older 2s and early 3s as they prepare to move into our preschool and PreK program.
Enrollment information is available here. We encourage you to come in, tour our center, and meet our teachers and directors once we open. Communication is key at Discovery Time. Our families are welcome to visit or call at anytime during the day.

We have just felt part of a larger community here and everyone has watched her thrive and grow. I love their approach to care and to teaching kids who may need a different approach to learning. Aside from being conveniently located, I always felt comfortable dropping my daughter off because I knew she was being cared for by the teachers and staff who seemed to have a genuine interest for children.

This is a violation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and has been reported and under investigation by the FTC.

We feel so fortunate that our daughter is at Discovery Time. They provide a safe, fun, and stimulating environment filled with lots of educational and sensory activities to help our daughter explore and develop. The teachers are very knowledgeable about baby and child care and attentive to their needs. Miss Mayra and Miss Myesha are gentle and loving and we are so grateful for their care of our daughter!

Our daughter loves DTLC. She has been there a little over a year, and we have only had good experiences. Her teachers--Ms. Adriane and Ms. Kim--are attentive and focused on the development of each child (as were her previous teachers, Ms. Biancka and Ms. Erin). We were nervous about continuing daycare during the pandemic, but DTLC has been strict about their COVID protocols and we feel good about keeping her there. I love getting pictures and updates throughout the day of the kids learning and having fun.

Our little one has been at DTLC on Leslie Ave since he was 7 months old. We are so grateful to the whole team for their amazing care and affection for our sweet kiddo. Ms Andrea and Ms Tajanae were there cheering him on for his first steps! And sent us a very sweet video that will forever be cherished by our family. Ms Bianka and Ms Erin are now caring for him wonderfully with fantastic activities and structure to his schedule. He is blossoming everyday and it’s amazing to see. For example, he smoothly transitioned from napping in a crib to napping on a cot at 12 months with his amazing teachers

We are somewhat new to Discovery Time but have really enjoyed our experience so far! They take great care of our infant son, are super responsive with any questions or concerns we have as first-time parents and have really strict protocols for Covid-19, so we’re not worried about his health when he’s there. Also they send the cutest updates about the activities the kids do - and all the staff really seem to love working with kids!

We love Discovery Time! The whole staff is wonderful and was very helpful as we transitioned into daycare for the first time. Ms. Mayra and Ms. Myesha in the infant room are amazing and really communicative with updates and pictures every day. Our son is thriving at DTLC and we couldn’t be more pleased.

A friend asked me tonight why we continue to send our daughter to Discovery Time when there is a day care in our neighborhood. Yes, it’s certainly out if the way. But, it’s worth the drive. The enthusiasm we are greeted with every day is genuine, and the providers somehow maintain the same level of happiness by the end of the day when they greet us with the same energetic smiles. All the teachers know my daughter by name, even if she’s not in their class. They provide stimulating, age appropriate activities throughout the day. We have two children who attend at the Hume location and we have had a wonderful experience with all of the staff. Our children started when DTLC re-opened following a closure at the start of the pandemic after losing care at our previous facility. My husband and I are both essential workers and we were very thankful to have much needed care for our children. I was nervous about a big transition during such a stressful time, but the staff was so wonderful in helping our children adapt and flourish in their new school. Our daughter has been going here since she was 3 months old and she’s almost 3 years old now. And we have loved every moment being part of the Discovery Time family! The teachers here are amazing and take great care of our daughter! The things she learns while there is great and she tells us all about it. Well, as well as a 2.5 yr old can lol. If you’re looking for a great place with an family like atmosphere and teachers that go above and beyond, this is your place!
