I was a member at at Global before they changed to Stow and unfortunately had to leave as my travels took me the opposite direction. I have since shopped around for other gyms on passes and Global is truly a well oiled machine by comparison. The management cares about their members from listening suggestions to cleaning and is always improving the gym. The staff gets to know you giving it that personal touch. I am only sorry the location couldn't suit me but wanted to share my thoughts.

This gym is reasonably priced and has all of the equipment I might ever need, but that almost doesn't matter, because I've been taking the group classes and have found some that I really love!
My main reason for coming to this gym is the child watch they provide. My child loves the caregivers at the gym, and is always asking me to go exercise so they can play, which is just more motivation for everyone!

I love Stow Fitness. Yes they are more expensive than some of the cheapo chain gyms, but I'm willing to pay more because of the atmosphere. the people here are neat, clients and staff. they have no hulking intimidating meatheads in the weight area. I've been to those gyms and really didn't like them. I couldn't relate to the people I was working out with. I have met a lot of nice people here and made new friends. And they have a particular peice of exercise equipment that I love and haven't seen at other gyms.

Stow Center Fitness is a great gym. While I haven't attended any of their classes, they always look to be full with people coming out smiling. Their monthly membership is fair compared to some of the other gyms in the area. They also just recently renovated and the new colors bring a postitive energy to the place.

Gym equipment is ok, good cardio equipment, nice machines but the free weight area is a little small and outdated. Would of been a 3 Star but it's a 2 star due to the fact the front desk personnel can't deal with more then one person at a time without being overwhelmed and not being able to prioritize.
I was visiting this gym on a day pass and I was 1st in line and tried to order a smoothie but the receptionist ignored myself to help out a person who was inquiring on a new membership. Plus a lady wanted to pay for a membership renew and was also ignored. No multi tasking skills and the reason

If you haven't been there lately, maybe it's time to try it out again. With rearrangements, some additions, and a fresh paint job (of serene blues) showcasing its architectural features, it's a place that you might want to be. It looks great, give it a try!

I also really like this place, but I wish they had more group fitness classes aimed for the ability of older people. I have typically found myself in classes with people anywhere from 20 to 40 years younger than myself. I can't quite keep up!

I have never felt so welcome - then at Stow Fitness! I deal with a minor disability - no one treats me that way and the people there have actually volunteered their time to help me in any way that I can. The instructors are very knowledgeable and focus on an individual's safety. The staff have quickly become friends that I look forward to seeing on a regular basis. That said, if you are looking to turn yourself into a power lifter or serious body builder, this is probably not the gym for you - if you are the 99% who are just trying to maintain or improve your condition, this gym is worth a

A great atmosphere! The staff are super nice, locker rooms are clean, great variety of equipment, new and nice for the most part, love the classes, and can't beat the childcare - convenient, affordable, staff is wonderful & my kids love it. I have to say there seem to be some really unfair, puzzling reviews... I love this comfortable, positive, uncompetitive gym!

I have been a member for almost 3 years now and love this place! The trainers, Jen, Chris, Colleen, Joanna, Kelly, Lindsay, Krissy etc are all fantastic at what they do and you can tell they are well trained and enjoy their work. They offer a large number of different classes with schedules to fit everyone from the early morning riser to those who like to work out in the evening. The staff at the front desk are wonderful (especially Erica) always greeting you as you walk in making you feel welcome. I can't recall any piece of equipment ever down and the ride bikes are all very new. Warn pad covers

Horrible health and wellness support. What sealed there death for me was the obnoxious clientele. I was a member and have switched to a different facility. Inside is bad enough with the attitudes from the help but I was in the parking lot and as I was leaving this women who I had seen inside was driving though the parking spaces instead of the lanes at an insane rate of speed just to get to the bank at the end of the plaza. I stopped to tell her that she was going to hurt somebody and she told me that I was a fat pig and I should F myself. This was just a fowl mouth version of what is inside this

I love it here. Child care is amazing, my toddler had never been away from me before we joined when he was two, he never cried and my work out wasn't ever shortened because of him. He now asks to go to the gym so he can play.
They have enough machines that I haven't ever had to wait! I love the classes, my schedule isn't such that I can go every week, but I enjoy popping in when I can. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the locker rooms, they do their jobs and I don't go to the gym to hang out in them. Over all it's a good quality locally owned gym, with

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews of this gym, I think it's great. It's clean, they have a lot of machines that are in good working order, it's never over crowded and the people who work here all seem really nice. I love the classes - Power and Ride are great! For a pretty reasonable monthly rate - I think mine ends but being about 35$ a month (I pay the full year in advance) I think it's a great deal! The locker rooms could use an update, but that's the least of my concerns or interests in a gym. For the low price of a membership and great group

This place is tired. The spinning bikes are old and in need of repair/maintenance, the locker room needs a serious update. There's always some piece of equipment broken down. I will say that the instructors are great- Friendly and very enthusiastic. I'm a member but If I didn't live down the street from this place I would seriously look elsewhere...

I've been a member of Global Fitness since it opened in 2002 (2001?). I'm one of the many "morning people" who are at the door when it opens at 5:00 a.m. weekdays, mostly for the very well-attended group fitness classes (Power [weight training] and Ride ["spin"]) at 5:30. Obviously, I like this gym a LOT, or I wouldn't still be a member.

I've belonged to several gyms over the past 30 years, but none with as many options for working out individually, in group classes, or with personal trainers. The group class trainers are great!

I've been a member of Global Fitness since the club opened. There are some very good things about Global Fitness: the hours are great, there is a lot of good equipment to use, and it's never too crowded. I have not used any classes, but they appear to be very popular and there are a lot of choices. Overall cleanliness is good as well. The staff is not the friendliest which takes some getting used to, but not a reason for dissing the club.

If this gym wasn't a 1/4 mile from my house, I would avoid it like the plague!! Convenience factor aside, there sadly is not much to love about this place.

It was great when it was new, but sadly the magic didn't last. The facility appears old, run down, and dirty. When machines break (and they break often), they remain broken for quite an extended period of time. There is one treadmill in particular that was recently down for a good 8 weeks. Not the gym's fault, but of late the parking lot reeks of raw sewerage?! Don't know what the hell is up with that, but it&apos

The best gym in the Maynard/Acton/Stow area. Tons of classes and good equipment. Early and late hours. Great place for those of all fitness levels. I go when it opens at 5am during the week and although there are more people there than you would think, I never find myself waiting for a piece of equipment. I have been happy here and will continue to be a member. You wont find salt water swimming pools and complimentary bottles of glacier water, but it is clean and a good place to get a great workout.

I want to point out that out of 4 filtered reviews, two are 5 star and two are 4 stars. I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. One is I haven't been a member for a few years, due to moving, and it is no longer geographically compatible.

The second is that a 4 star review has a better chance of not getting filtered!

I have never been a big fan of gyms...I always figured I could "do it all at home". However as my teenage daughters got old enough to really want to get into sports and exercise it became apparent I needed another approach. I have never been happier with a decision to join a gym (and there have been a few)...from the low key sales approach to the thorough tour and questions answered on the first visit to the personal attention we continue to get, it's a first rate facility.

We have recieved one on one training, have enjoyed the classes, and have utilized other features of the

I agree with the poor reviews that already exist. This gym is not worth the small monthly fee they charge. The classes are for people who enjoy routine and don't care about music AT ALL. Granted, I was spoiled by Healthworks in Boston (we bought a house in Maynard recently), but Global Fitness is a poor excuse for a gym. They should spend a bit more time motivating members with new classes and incentives (and not just those that cost more). And one final comment---there should NEVER be cooking shows on at the gym, let alone on 3 of the 6 channels!

UPDATE 11/1/11

Recently we had a terrible snow storm in MA that knocked out power in the metro west area. The gym closed Monday, saying there is no water in the Stow Shopping Plaza on their web site.

Phone calls to the gym go completely unanswered and as of Tuesday morning no further information is available. No attempt was made to contact members via email, either.

No recording is available by phone to let members know what's up.

Last Friday I went in only to be told the gym closed at Noon to prepare for their member appreciation day.

Earlier this summer, the gym was closed to prepare

There are a handful of really nice staff, but they don't make up for the nasty ones, who are not only "disinterested", but go out of their way to send a message to the membership that they would rather be anywhere else but there, and the pay means nothing.
Although I've seen worse at other clubs, the hours of operation are limited to the point where you have to rush your workout at times just to take a shower, so as you don't become a "liability"by being in the club one minute after closing. The cause of the hours are most likely because of the demands of the

I have a feeling my list is going to continue to grow. This is a minor one but irritated me beyond sensibility today:

7. No paper towels in the locker room. Its not that they ran out, its purposely not stocked. There is a menacing empty paper towel container to remind you. Since there are blow dryers in place to save on the luxury brown paper the only option is toilet paper or your own towel.

This is a nice clean friendly gym but the major issue is that ALL of their classes are crowded and limited equipment. They recently expanded but never expanded the class room, they added a few bikes but you still have to call at 5 am to get into a bike/spin class later in the day. It's too bad b/c I like going there, but I go b/c I like the classes. You can't even move in most classes such as Yoga, Pump and Kick. And good luck getting a bike unless it's your priority in life getting one. Says something though, the classes and teachers are great.

I liked this club a lot and was a member since it opened. They were totally inflexible about my membership when I moved less than 18 or however many miles away (after 9 years of paying in advance) which I know was in the contract, so watch out for that. C'mon, 9 years, referrals, nothing? I guess it's a tough business to be in. The staff ranges from super-friendly to disinterested, which is fine. They take good care of the equipment, but they need an ever larger class space -- it gets claustrophobic. They've expanded, which is good for the spinning people. Good hours too. There&apos
